Complete kit includes 1/6 hp pump, 3.5 gallon pail with screw top lid, two 6 ft. stainless steel hoses and one 7oz pack of descaler powder. Superior Pump builds pumps that are truly built to last and are 100% factory tested. Superior Pump uses quality components including solid copper motor windings, reinforced thermoplastic and electronically controlled split capacitors. Pump included in kit is a Superior Pump model number 91016 1/6 hp oil free submersible utility pump. 91016 Pump will move water up to 1920 gallons per hour and includes a 3/4 in. garden hose adapter. This 1/6 hp pump is CSA certified and backed by a 1 year.

I bought the Superior Pump 91660 Tankless Water Heater Descaler Pump Kit to descale my tankless water heater, and I’m honestly impressed. Absolutely gobsmacked at how great this kit is! Flushing out the tankless water heat was easy enough, but to have everything I needed all in one space was wonderful. Everything was neatly packaged, and the kit came as advertised. The hoses were of high quality, and there were no leaks on either ends of the connections. The pump itself was brand new in box, and was quiet and powerful. I appreciated having the descaler in powder form as it makes it much easier to store and cleanup after use. Easy to follow instructions. First flush after using my heater for 1.5 years. So didn’t see big pieces of debris in the flush water but huge amounts of little white specks. Quality equipment. If you need to flush your heater - get this one - reasonably priced.

    • great kit - worked perfectly... however let's see what happens next year when I do a second flush

I followed the Rinnai hot water heater's flush instructions... and the instructions on the pump's plastic bucket container... and I took my time doing every step. I did not force any valves open or closed. My Rinnai unit is 3 years old and this was the first time I tried to open/close valves, and they were all stuck. I removed the plastic caps on the valves, and I used a really small adjustable wrench to delicately open/close valves without the caps (meaning, I applied very little pressure on the wrench to open/close valves), and that worked. In the end, everything worked perfectly. No spills. No damage. Before I started the process I cleaned my Rinnai water heater's water filter, and I did that again after the flushing. The flushing actually caused a bit of gunk to get caught by the water filter, and so I'm happy I cleaned it before and after the flush. Based on the reviews for other pumps, it sounds like these pumps frequently fail in the near future (next few times they are used), and so I'll update this review after each flush to let you know how long these pumps last. I'm going to flush my hot water heater once a year. Going forward, I'm also going to toggle (on/off/on, off/on/off) my water heater valves once every 6 months to reduce the chances of them sticking again in the future. When I was done with my water heater flushing, for about 30 seconds I then ran fresh clean water thru the pump that exited into an outside drain. I'm hoping that will prolong the life of the pump. Meaning, I ran a garden hose to the bucket to fill it with clean water, while I simultaneously used the pump to pump the clean water from the bucket to a drain using a second garden hose. ... show more

If you have an instant hot water heater instead of a tank-type, (AND you're a DIYselfer), you WILL need to de-scale your appliance on a regular basis. This kit is what you need. Forget about vinegar. Too slow. This comes with a small package of sulfamic/citric acid. Definitely use it, but buy an additional 20 oz or so of sulfamic acid. Run the pump for about half an hour. It will pick up some copper from the brass fittings and the solution will be tinted green, but no harm has been done. BTW, if you are wondering, sulfamic acid is relatively gentle on biological tissue, but please wear protective gear. Citric acid IS actually corrosive to skin, but is still more aggressive to sediment and lime deposits that vinegar is. One can use regular strength vinegar, but the recirculation time is about 5 hours. Do NOT use toilet bowl cleaner or muriatic acid. Consult the manual that came with the device. ... show more
