  • Performed pool draining flawlessly
Size: 1/4 HP Style: Thermoplastic Pattern Name: Utility Pump
I purchased the 1/4 Hp Superior Pump Model 91250 to partially drain my 22,000 gallon swimming pool to reduce the concentration of cyanuric acid. I also purchased the 25' 1.5" drain hose accessory for this pump, and coupled it to 125' of 2" blue drain hose. I drained about a third of the pool, or 7,000 gallons, in 6 hours. (Refill time was double that!) The pump was submerged about 3' and the drain hose was on level ground. I repeated this procedure to achieve the needed dilution and the second drain/refill went smoothly with similar time periods. The pump seems well designed and thoughtfully constructed, and the fittings and hose accessories are definitely worth purchasing. The pump was a joy to use and performed flawlessly. If you need to couple the 1.5' drain hose to a 2' drain hose (my recommended size), here is how I did it. I took a short piece of scrap 1" pvc Schedule 40 pipe and put a 1" to 1" dia. unthreaded pvc coupling on one end and a 1" to 1.5" dia. unthreaded pvc bushing on the other end. The OD of the1" coupling was a snug fit for the 1.5" hose (I used liquid soap) and the OD of the 1.5" bushing was an easy fit for the 2" hose. I was able to "dry fit" the three pieces tightly together and secure the hoses to them with band clamps. I did not need to glue the fittings together, as the hose pressure was quite low. Two final tips. First, to couple two pieces of 2" hose together, a piece of 1.5" pipe and band clamps can be used. Second, the 1.5" hose was quite robust but the low-priced 2" hose wasn't. It got a few small punctures from shrubbery. If that matters to you, know that it is delicate and be careful routing it. The punctures weren't a problem: they were small, the project was outdoors, and, hopefully, infrequent. ... show more

  • This is fun!
Size: 1/4 HP - High Flow Style: Thermoplastic Pattern Name: Utility Pump
This little sump pump is fun. Works great. I can attach my garden hose to it, my pool hoses to it and off it goes. My pool filter isn't strong enough for my new pool. I can't buy a filter for the size i need as they are all out of stock. My pool needed filtered. So i used this instead. Stuck it in the pool, attached the pool hose which is attached to the fliter. Turn them both on and within an hour my water is crystal clear. Also works great draining my puddles in my back yard when we get slammed with alot of rain. Cons. The electric cord. So short. Makes absolutely zero sense. You must use it with an extension cord. ... show more

  • It works!
Size: 1/4 HP Style: Thermoplastic Pattern Name: Utility Pump
Back yard slopes to house so this pump to be used to keep water out of garage. It got the chance when we got over 8.5” of rain last week in less than 12 hours. Although water did get in the garage the floor slopes to the front so water ran out. The pump worked great and probably saved us possible damage. If I had any regret it is that I should have gotten a half horse pump but the truth is that rain was one of those 100 year rains. The most rain we had previously while in DFW was about 5” in the same period of time. So I recommend this pump unless you’re in a high risk flood zone! ... show more

  • Superior Pump 91250 1/4 HP Thermoplastic Submersible Utility Pump is Great
Size: 1/4 HP Style: Thermoplastic Pattern Name: Utility Pump
I bought a 1/10 hp transfer pump at Harbor Freight a couple weeks ago just after a monsoon here in Havasu. The pool water was to high and needed to bring it down about an inch. Hooked the 1/10 hp pump up, turned it on, walked away and 20 minutes later came back to find the pump motor over heated and off. The next day I bought this from Amazon for the same price and when it came in I hooked it up, turned it on, walked away, and came back about 1/2 hour later to find everything running perfectly and the pool down about 1-2 inches. P E R F E C T for what I need. RECOMMENDED! ... show more

  • Pump performing as advertised.
Size: 12 Volt Style: Thermoplastic Pattern Name: Utility Pump
The pump is used to move water out of a 350 gallon tote to water oak trees and native plants at various locations. The pump is placed inside the tote and pumps about 5 to 6 gallons a minute against the 4 feet of head. We have only used it a four times to date to pump about 2500 gallons of water. I expect it will perform well under these conditions for some time. The long power cable does allow one to use the vehicle battery when the tote is placed in back of a pickup. The switch appears to be of good quality. ... show more

  • THIS PUMP SAVED ME AT LEAST $500!!!!
Size: 1/4 HP Style: Thermoplastic Pattern Name: Utility Pump
FANTASTIC, FANTASTIC, MONEY-SAVING DEVICE!!! I had a pool service bank on the fact that my husband and I were super busy, and scam the heck out of us! By the time we realized that they weren't doing anything for their money, our 15,000+ gallon pool looked like a terarium (you know, with the green plants growing from the bottom)!!! Even though we just had the pool drained and acid washed this past January, you couldn't tell by the green sludge on every surface. My husband went to the local AZ pool store, and they sold him $200 worth of chemicals. But, I happened to be talking to an excellent car repairman (which used to be a pool repairman) that said "DON'T DO IT! YOU WILL JUST PUT ALL OF THAT ALGAE THROUGH YOUR DE FILTER!!!" So, I decided to look for a pump and get some skin in the game. I found this great little pump on Amazon and was very excited. See, it cost me $500 to have my pool emptied and acid washed 10 months ago. And, the local Home D rents a pump to do this job for the same price! I watched the videos of this GREAT LITTLE PUMP and used the idea to cover it with a filter sock. That seemed like a great idea because I was worried that my SUPREME ALGAE would clog the pump. I also put it into the pool net (as shown in the video) because I was going to empty a very large pool. And, while it is only a playpool in AZ (meaning it is an in-ground pebble-tek pool that is just 6' deep at the deep end), I am too old to dive in to get the pump out of the cold water (yes, pool water gets cold in AZ, too)! So, the net allowed me to pull the pump up using the metal pole. Here are some tips that helped: 1) A regular garden hose will screw right on! I started to buy a one-way valve, but after reading, realized I just didn't need it. I just needed a hose that was long enough to reach from the bottom of the pool to my sewer return. 2) Just like the manufacturer says, the pump needs water in order to keep it cool. So, if your pool runs dry, it will overheat. But, we caught it pretty quickly all three times it occurred (I have an in-ground spa that waterfalls into the pool that needed to be drained separately). We just let it rest, turned it back on and it started right away! 3) The pump really does drain down to an 1/8 inch. But, it is bottom heavy. Once the water level got very low, I had to find a way to allow it to be flat. In an in-ground pool, the sides gently slope to the bottom without getting out my magic carpet! 4) There is absolutely no sound when the pump is under water. We could tell it was sucking by the hose pressure. 5) The pump itself is tiny and light (see the details). I was super surprised how easy this was to use! 6) It took approximately 4 days and nights to drain all 15,000+ gallons of our pool. I got skittish as we were close to done, and would stop and start to avoid overheating. 7) The water pressure is good, but probably not enough to run a sprinker (as the guy in the video says). Now, keep in mind, I was pumping about 70 feet from the bottom of my pool to my sewer return in the front of our house. His is A LOT closer. In the end, I completely emptied my pool, picked up the disgusting algae wet (we actually used a broom and dust pan to pick it up while wet---just imagine the smell of a lagoon coming from your own backyard). Then, once the pool was empty, used the same broom to brush the Pebble surface to knock off the algae. I want to use CLR to get some of the calcium off of the surface where the tile is, but am only a WEEKEND MAMA WARRIOR, so it is a slow process. But, it would likely have cost me 10X the cost of this FANTASTIC LITTLE PUMP if I hadn't found this great tool! BTW- I took off the one filter sock, threw it away, put the little pump back in the box, and put it on a top shelf in the garage for whenever I need it again. Just in case you are wonder, I am waiting to use the chemicals (which are now in the garage) to balance the pool once I fill it again. :) ... show more
