  • Great to chop hay
I have a senior horse that has lost most of her teeth; she cannot chew hay, so I use this to chop her hay. I have only used this on hay, and I have not tried it on slash or branches, but I assume this works well on leaves. Before using this, I used a mulcher with strings rather than blades. This works much better, can chop the hay faster, and it does not get clogged like the other product I used (which caught on fire while I was using it after a year) This is easy to use, has been curable, is a convenient compact size, and was easy to assemble. It is about as loud as a gas-powered lawn mower. ... show more

  • A shredder of dry material and, not a chipper. Needs a collection bag.
Nice Product, but has limitations. Will grind some yard waste, but needs to be dry. Does dry leaves and straw real nice. Biggest drawback: There is no chute or bag to catch debris. It just creates an incredible mess. I jury rigged and chute and added an old Troy-Built shredder bag, and I am pleased with the mulch I get. ... show more

  • Assembly and finish is great!
Looks like a quality product for the price. We don't have much choices in this category and price range. Unit performs pretty well for heavy and even wet leaves. Just take your time and don't overloaded. Easy to move around. Paint is excellent. Hardware is excellent. Even includes nylon locking nuts. You may want to put Loc-Tite 222 On the basis screws to make sure they don't vibrate out. Upgrades: If you look in the video there's an enormous amount of slack for the wheels because they made the axle about 1 in wider / longer Then it needs to be so I added two half inch wide nylon washers. Looks like the company offers great support. Multiple contact points. Great manual and inclusive parts list. There is an unknown undocumented thin piece of black plastic roughly 5 ft long in the package. Initially I didn't understand what this part was for but after getting it outside and working in the unit I quickly realized the thin long black plastic piece is to go inside of the leaf bag to make it stay round LOL I feel silly I didn't figure this out right away. ... show more

  • Power train weak and will not last longer than a few days.
When it works it does a great job. The problem is that it will not last more than 3 of 4 days without power train failing. Power train begins melts down and crash at the slightest signs of a struggle cutting the leaves. Should be taken off market and redesigned. Great package if it had a substantial power train. The overall design: Good cutting blades, well built housing, and bagging process. They need to charge $50 more and replace the power train with a 15 amp grinder motor (which has no problem with 4000 RPM) which has a mechanical clutch that keeps the motor from damage with protecting the drive train mechanism. I would order several if they would redesign the power train!!!! ... show more

  • Great way to cut hay for an old mule
We are using this unit to cut hay for a mule that has a chewing problem, possibly arthritis or TMJ. He is a retired Forest Service Mule about 25 years old at this point. Because we are a rescue we get some pretty challenging issues. When we discovered the chewing problem, which was the first day we got him home from the kill lot, we fed him soaked timothy pellets four times a day for the first month because he had been starved until his ribs were pretty prominent. After he gained some weight back, we switched him to hay. He couldn't chew it. After several unsuccessful attempts to cut hay with a machine, we stumbled upon this solution. The first one we purchased worked well for eight months in spite of the fact I wasn't diligent about keeping the filter clean. So after burning up the first one because it couldn't get air we purchased a second one which has worked well by cleaning the filter after each bug of hay is processed. Because cut hay is critical for our mule, I now have a third one in a box ready to be assembled. That sounds expensive, but it is cheaper to burn up one of these machines a year (I hope never again) than to purchase commercially cut hay. One of the tricks we have found is to not cut more than two bags of hay at one setting. Then let the machine rest for a few hours to cool off. And ALWAYS clean the filter after each bag is processed. Hay is dirty and the filter gets overloaded with dust. We also never overload the cutter with hay. We only put small quantities of hay in the cutter at a time, and we always make sure the hay is separated and not in a clump. It is easy to hear when the load put in the chute was too much. If you think the machine should be handling more hay at a time, purchase a commercial cutter for a few thousand dollars and you will be fine. Or be patient and let the machine tell you what to expect. Then you'll love the way this one works. ... show more

  • Did not last long!
This product did not last long , just about a year and motor burnt out! Used for shredding hay only for older horse. Did the job before it quit working though pretty good but just didn’t last, I did maintain it too, needs better motor, rest of unit held up great! If they had a better motor for this it would be a great mulcher! ... show more

  • My opinion is it works great
I have only used it for a couple of hours but I like it, my leaves are very dry and my wheel barrel is a .5 cubic foot so I put as much as it would hold a shredded them just to see how it does , well one wheel barrel load after shredding would just fill up a one gallon bucket. I have a 2 foot by 3 foot four wheeled cart and my wheel barrel and I ran three loads from each in it before the bag was full. I STRONGLY recommend anyone using this have a wood cutters helmet with ear protection and face shield as I have hickory trees and it grinds them great but I did have some fly out and hit me but I use my cutters helmet to cut wood and weed eat and now every time I use this beast of a machine. It was ( for me ) very easy to put together in fact I put it together then looked at manual just to make sure I did it correctly. I do recommend the helmet with face shield and headphones. ... show more
