I had never made a flare connection in my life before now, but I had occasionally soldered hard copper pipe, so not a complete plumbing newbie. I purchased this flaring tool to work on a compressed air project using 1/2" soft copper tubing. I was still surprised when my first test flare turned out perfect, as have every flare I have completed since. This is a quality tool - the eccentric cone design seems to gently nudge the copper into position, as well as "polishes" the inside of the flare. The clutch on the handle ensures that the copper is not over "worked" when reaching the limit. For me, the only failure mode was forgetting once to put the retaining nut onto the tube before starting the flare. It was not clear to me how much use it would be in the future, so I considered getting a cheaper flaring tool for just this one project. But I have to admit that I appreciate good tools, and I have also learned the hard way that cheap tools often (always?!) produce less than desirable results, and I went ahead and got this one. The premium paid for it over a rock bottom cost tool was not that great, and how much is satisfaction worth? In this particular case, every penny paid! At the time I bought the price was ~$46. I have enjoyed using it, and I'm very happy with how my project turned out - no leaks at any connection. I wanted flared connections because they are similar to unions, except more compact, and the connections can be opened and re-assembled multiple times as needed for maintenance or whatever other reason without re-working the joint (unlike compression fittings). Long term I may sell it; or maybe just dream up a new project suited to it - lol. Either way, I can definitely recommend this flaring tool, at least for soft copper. Other materials like aluminum or stainless I have no experience with, BTW, there seem to be different brands offering identical looking flaring tools except for color and markings - those may be as good, but obviously I can't vouch for any but this "Super Stars" product. FWIW, I gravitated towards this one due to past positive reviews from others, so hopefully future buyers will find this review equally useful.

This flaring tool works very well, and has a clitch mechanism that keeps you from overtightening and smashing or cracking your flares. The flares come out clean and smooth every time. There is a depth stop that helps seat the tubing to the proper depth before starting the flare so you don't have an improperly flared end. I would recommend this flaring tool to anyone that is tired of paying for overpriced tools but still want good quality and reliability.

I am a Previous HVAC Installer & now a HVAC Service Tech. I have had the Yellow Jacket 60440 Flare & Swage kit for years and it has been great. It has always gotten the job done and made perfect flares. The only complaint i have had with it is that it is very time consuming and a pain in the butt if you have to flare multiple pipes. Now that Mini Splits and flared refrigerant piping connections are becoming more common, i was looking into getting something that would be a little faster. I have seen alot of these newer one piece style flare tools and they seem so much more convenient and alot faster. I didnt wamt to spend $200 plus on the yellow jacket one so i figured i would try this cheaper one first to see how i like it. I was very impressed at how quick and clean this tool flares copper. I can flare a pipe with this quicker than i can get my Yellow Jacket 1 even set up to start the flare. I love that it has the plate that stops the pipe and gauges the proper depth for the flare so your not guessing. It makes uniform, identical flares every single time, and very quickly. I did not notice this when i bought it, but it even has a anti torque feature that basically disengauges the handle from the flare piece. This makes sure that you do not over torque or split the flare from tightening it too much. I flared about 8 pipes total just for testing and every single 1 was great, even without deburring a few. Will see how it holds up over time, but soo far i think its a great tool at a fair price

Glad I bought this, I’m no expert by any means on making flares. I had previously bought a flare tool from HF, I never could get them right, I either put too much force or not enough on them when I made them. This tool is a game changer for the beginner. It’s easy, almost completely fool proof and because of the clutch system, perfect pressure every time. If you are uneasy about making flares, buy this and make them with ease.

I used this to do some new flares on 1/2” and 1/4” copper lines for new mini split install. Thing worked great and left good enough quality flares the were only vacuum tested and held less than 500 microns steadily for over 12 hours. Lots of videos out there on how to use these things so definitely recommend watching some of the professionals for how they did it. Wish it had a hard case though. I used a Ridgid (Home Depot associated brand) pipe cutter and a Milwaukee reamer to do the work ahead of the flaring and those are great tools.
