This isn't the lowest priced metal detector out there, but it does have a lot of features and it works well enough I guess to dictate a higher price (139.99 at the time of this review.) Just note, you probably aren't going to get rich off of this and probably won't ever find enough stuff to cover the price, but the fun of it is worth the price. The only reason I took off a star is that it doesn't feel as sturdy as I'd want it to for this price point. It just feels cheap to me. Overall, works well, just thin plastic feeling. I've always wanted to have a metal detector and got this for my kids to use at the beach and it worked well. The metal detector was simple enough to use that the kiddos were preoccupied searching for treasure for hours. Operation is pretty straightforward. You can wing it and still find things, or you can read the manual and use more of the fine-tuning features to refine your search. The kit itself is surprisingly well equipped; aside from the metal detector you get a headset, case and foldable shovel. Out of the box, assembly took a little bit of time (instruction print and illustrations were tiny) and the clamping of rods weren't sturdy and I ended up snapping one of the plastic clamping pieces off. Nothing that interfered with the function nor duct tape. For the price, including coupon, I'd pick up again. ... show more

The 5 mode metal detector with 11” waterproof detection depth (ASIN: B0C58J51SK) worked well for me. I mainly use it to find property boundary pins and it was successful at that task. For fun I buried some coins just a few inches deep and it was able to both locate and correctly identify them. All the controls worked as detailed in the printed instructions. The kit I received has a defective cam lock. The cam lock that secures the middle stem in the top stem failed, allowing the middle stem to slide back out. It does not hold the middle stem in place inside the top stem. But it works out okay as the screw that holds the control box in place runs through a slot in the middle stem, so the screw performs the task of the cam lock (see photo). I can work with this. The unit is easy to assemble. If you have another person to help you with putting it together, procced as written. However, if assembling solo, consider initially skipping step 3. Perform steps 1, 2, 4, and 5 as written. While performing step 6 ensure that the flat side of the lower stem is down, or in the orientation shown in the photo, and then perform step 7, followed by steps 3, 8, & 9.
