I wanted a metal detector pointer to use in conjunction with my metal detector. I'm a beginner at using these things, so I needed something that was inexpensive, easy to use, and didn't take too much effort to learn how to use it. This SUNPOW pointer was a good choice for me, with a few potential reservations. I like that it's got three modes that all let me know metal is up to 4" deep. The 9V battery installs easily under the orange cap, and on/off operation and mode switching is easy to do. The holster and lanyard are nice additions. The build quality of the pinpointer is not great and I'd venture to say it's more water-resistant than waterproof. Using it out in the rain was fine, but it didn't seem like the seal on the battery compartment or the general feel of it would make it good for submersion. I didn't test this as I didn't want mine to be literally "dead in the water", but if that's important to you I'd suggest reading through the other reviews or asking a question in the comments. Overall, for beginners who want to zero in on something, it's a good tool. It could also be used by a child who likes digging in the dirt or to find a ring that slipped off your finger while gardening. It's definitely not a tool that intermediate to advanced treasure hunters will seek out, but for me, while I get into a new hobby, I'm happy with it.

I used this metal detector underwater. And we needed up finding some real gold! It wasn't much, but the nugget was visible after many tests. I had also found some other metallic ores in a nearby stream, looking like tin, or iron, maybe even magnesium, and gold. The fact that it can go underwater, and is so easy to use and small is why I gave it 5 stars. NO metal detector on this planet should NOT be able to go underwater! Its so small, no-one can see you are collecting metals. And if you drop it in the water, you can simply pick it up and go about. It beeps faster the closer you get to the metal which is also a great design! The range is terrible however. If you are fortunate enough to get 1 inch or range thats probably all you will need anyway, but still not good. Maybe I have a defective unit I'm not sure, but 4" is a very very big stretch for this thing. Personally, I was hesitant to return it because I have had nothing but issues with it since I first opened it. But I say for now it does work, like all metal detectors. Its a 5 star product and the waterproofing is great too.

My Honest review. Functioned as it should out of the box. This pointer works awesome, well built, easy to operate and detects objects in-and-around within 2" easily with authority . Many people complained about the difficulty of putting the battery in the pointer. Place the battery in the compartment first, then attach the connector. Reverse for removal to make this easy without breaking or stressing the wires. My pointer worked great the first day of detecting (5 digs) but then started to Beep randomly when not around any metal. (Brand new Duracell battery). It can be powered off and on to fix this issue, however after a few times of digging, it would do it again leading to possible faulty signals while in the hole. I returned for a replacement in kind, as I possibly have a defective item, but it seems to be consistent issue. The beep can be a little louder, but its loud enough for most work. Both vibe and beep function gives best of both worlds. I am hoping I had a defective item and the replacement will not have the reoccurring beeping issue as this pointer would meet the QDR (Quality/Dependability/Reliability) we all need in a budget friendly pointer. I intend to give a follow up review after receiving the replacement item.
