  • Quality Build, Easy Assembly & Hello Peloton Experience
Style: Original
Update: I wanted to add that the Peloton App only works with Apple. And, the price went up since I bought this. I paid $600. At the new price, I don't know that I would have gotten this one. Just sayin... Original: I purchased this bike after spending a lot of time researching. I knew I wanted a magnetic wheel with belt drive. I watched a guy, tailhappytv on You Tube and he reviews a lot of spin bikes (from his kitchen, kind of funny and helpful). What I liked about this from his review and now as I use it, is the easy installation, the silent spin, the incredibly solid build and actually, the lack of tech. I wanted to create a peloton experience but also have the ability to use whatever app I want to ride to. I also didn't want the problems of tech that breaks. Some of the bikes have heart rate monitors but they aren't accurate. Another plus with this bike is it only takes a few turns to get more resistance. That may not not seem like a big deal, but it helps when you're riding and want to add and subtract resistance. To create my Peloton experience I have their app (which is awesome with all kinds of classes). I use it on a big tv via my Roku. I added the Wahoo cadence sensor. They shout out cadence a lot and you'll get to know where you should be based on your bike. As a side note, I read that many of the riders on the Peloton leader board, don't follow the instructors #'s, they spin like crazy to be on the top. So, do your best and follow them if you like. It's easy to figure out with practice where you should be along with the instructor. Yes, you won't have power output or speed/distance, but you have the spin of your wheel and your heart rate to guide you. Since I use a tv, I can't have my cadence displayed there. I use their app on my iphone and look and my heart rate on my watch from time to time. Apple doesn't play well with others and won't let Wahoo grab that number. I am going to try an app called HeartCast that is supposed to use your A watch and cast to Wahool. We'll see, but in the meantime, I take a second and look. Easy. I think the Schwin IC4 is awesome build and bike and I would trust their tech. But it's $900 plus tax and more than I wanted to spend. A have friends with Peloton and they love them. Either is a great choice. BUT, I'm super happy with mine. In the future I'll add spin shoes and pedals but for now, I'm just happy to be moving. I recommend this bike for a quality mid range bike with no tech to break. Side note: it's heavy and I needed help to get it upstairs, or even in the door for that matter. The box arrived crushed in with some of the styrofoam cracked. I took video of unboxing in case it was broken. NOPE...solid bike survived the rough handling. Happy Health! ... show more

  • Great value, great bike, and solid option for DIY Peloton
Style: Original
***Update (over a year later, 3/8/21)*** Bike is still going strong. I had a small maintenance issue with the left pedal crank arm and pedal threads, but luckily the bike was still under warranty and they sent me new pieces. Make sure your pedals are tight before/after each ride to ensure you don't damage those threads! I'm so glad I went the Sunny/build-your-own-peloton route, because while I love riding the bike, I found myself enduring some boredom here and there. So it's nice not being tied to the Peleton ecosystem and $39/month bike subscription. At least at $13/month for the app I don't feel too bad if I choose another cardio method a few days per week. I did modify the handles by adding some padding...not because the handles hurt, but because apparently I have short arms and I was finding myself out of position reaching for the handles. I saw others use really thick pool noodles wrapped around the bars. I just used old t-shirts and it worked just fine. The wahoo sensors continue to give all the info I need to be effective in my rides while following Peloton instructors on the app. I still absolutely recommend this bike and the setup I described below. I'm sure I would have liked/loved the Peloton, but I'm glad I ended up not spending all that money. ****Original review**** (2/29/20) Really happy with this bike so far. About 50 rides so far (January 2nd through February 29th) by my wife and I. I'm 5'10", she's 5'4", and we both fit on the bike. I will say the position of the handlebars is a little further forward than I would like (when fully adjusted back). I would say my arms are average length for my height, and with the seat in the right position for placing my knees in the right place, I have to reach out a decent amount to get to the handle bars. I use the Peloton app and I notice the instructor's arm position is way more angled at the elbow than mine and I can feel the soreness in my shoulders and triceps after a week's worth of rides. But that is my only complaint/issue. The rest of the bike is sturdy, well-built and an insane value! The magnetic resistance is fantastic. The bike is quiet and rides really smooth. Adjustments are easy to make for seat and handlebars. I replaced the pedals with clip-in pedals, so can't speak to the included pedals. Currently using the Wahoo cadence and speed senors as well as the Wahoo heart monitor strap to track my stats. Definitely a cost-effective and solution-effective option vs the full Peloton bike. Glad I have the extra $28/month from the subscription in my pocket plus the $1700 difference between the bikes/setups. ... show more
