I am a 71 year old granny, and I love this saw. Easy to handle, goes through branches and small trees like butter. I cut longer branches with extention on then take off extention and cut up into smaller pieces. Made my yard clean up a breeze. I used it this past weekend and it worked flawlessly. Putting it together was very easy and was pretty simple to use. I trimmed some tall tree branches and it went through them with great ease. It sure was a lot better than my manual pole saw. There is NO oil included in my package. So some questions answered on Amazon are incorrectly stating it does. It's possible that maybe older packages had included a sample bottle but as of 2019 there is none in the package. So be sure to buy some if you buy this product. I bought a rather large bottle of oil, and I used a funnel to fill the oil. Just be wary that the oil reservoir isn't that large so be careful when you pour. I overfilled mine and had to clean up a bit of oil because a lot came out of the new full bottle when I poured it. One thing to mention, it is heavier than it looks when you use it. The farther the extension the more strain on your arms and the more awkward the balance is so use caution when fully extending it since it will tire out your arms much faster. The pole chain saw saved me time over the manual pole saw I used, but in terms of tiring me out it was about the same due to the weight. The extension mechanism is really easy to use and it's a quick clamp so it makes it real easy to adjust the length of the pole. The locking mechanisms seem to be sturdy and I didn't have any issues with them. The only minor nitpick was the safety on the trigger. You have to press it down before the trigger can be pulled, but I really couldn't tell if It was pressed or not. It didn't click or move very far from it's default position especially with gloves on. I could only tell I didn't properly press it down when the trigger wouldn't go down. IMHO Sun Joe should use a taller button so there is more of a tactile feel even with gloves on. The item is supposedly new; however, metal parts had scratches & rust. Plastic parts also had scratches, marks, & showed signs of wear. It’s too costly & far to return. That being said, it is the most powerful small saw I’ve ever used. Cuts extremely well. Solid. Only true negative is handle attachment can slip when used with pole attachment. This trimmer is a surprisingly good value. I love the ability to transform from pole trimmer to hand held chain saw. The power is amazing as it cuts through large branches very easily. It is a little heavy when the pole is extended but if I can do it at 69 years old I'm sure most others can too. That being said, it takes no effort to cut. Just the weight of the saw on the limbs sliced through like butter. The best part was the conversion to hand held. Once the branches were on the ground it was so easy to cut them into manageable pieces. All in all a great product at and a great value. ... show more

I am amazed by this beast of a tool! I specifically bought this needing to cut down a crap apple tree in our backyard. This was so easy to use and never once had any issue with it. The saw does quite well either with the pole or in hand held mode. I read reviews that worried me about people saying they had the saw release from the pole and come crashing down. I’m not going to doubt people but these reviews said it was an unsafe product due to the saw being able to be released and I don’t see how this is physically even possible. While using the pole attachment the saw attaches to the pole and can in no way be released and drop onto you while extended unless you have super powers or arms that are 10-15 feet long. And where your hand is placed to power up the saw while in pole attachment mode or hand held the button to release the saw from the power cable is on top of the unit and then you have to physically separate the power connector from the pole or saw. I never once felt unsafe using this product. The only two issues I had with this product was 1.) the window for the chain oil to see if you need more or not is utterly useless as the oil I used is clear and can’t tell whether it’s full/not full/needing more oil and turns into a mess filling it up. 2.) the spin down time is a little long so if you do get in a bind that could be an issue with there not being a true dead mans switch. Other than those two things, this exceeded my expectations in every way! Worth a buy for sure! ... show more

Update: Original review in September 2020, update December 2023. It still works just like the day I got it! I've cleared half an acre of 3 to 7 inch trees with this saw over time and it's still sharp and ready for more. Original: I have cut down several trees with this saw, which works equally well in-hand or on the pole. The reach is fantastic for getting branches just out of range. It cuts cleanly, cuts efficiently, and packs a mean punch for its size. I have cut down sweetgum, oak, and persimmon trees so far as well as blackthorn bushes, a boxwood, and some assorted woody weeds (too thick for the weed whacker). Make sure if you use it for trees that the diameter of the tree is less than that of the chainsaw blade - the largest I felled was a 7" across oak tree and it performed perfectly. It has been a boon for clearing out the forested land on my property. The tension is easy to adjust and it feels well-balanced on the pole. It is also very simple to switch from pole to hand-held and even my arthritic hands have no trouble operating this chainsaw. The first one I ordered cut through three trees and suddenly stripped a sprocket. I called customer support and they immediately responded and (after brief troubleshooting to see if the part could be replaced) sent me a replacement in the middle of the pandemic! Additionally, they emailed me a shipping label for free return on the faulty one. I will definitely be purchasing more Sun Joe products in the future. ... show more
