  • Nice lightweight but powerful cultivator.
We like the fact this cultivator is light weight and battery powered. It is very easy to use and being lightweight it is easy on the back and other muscles. It is best for lighter duty gardening like getting a garden ready for planting that you have already established. It is like other Sun Joe products we have purchased in the past like their snow blower - works greats, powerful, and easy to operate. ... show more

  • Great cultivator
The media could not be loaded. Let me give you some context....I have a 3000 SF plot of grape vines I planted a month ago. The soil was prepped fall and winter with heavy fertilizer and a tarp to loosen the soil up. I wanted it to remain a "no till" plot, so soil was never turned over. Now that summer is upon us, I needed to tear up the grass and weeds that have begun with as little hassle as possible. Didn't want a gas tiller due to not needing that kind of power and needing some manuverability around vines. This product got through 2/3 of the plot on one battery charge and did the job through virgin dirt, weeds and some sod. I am pretty impressed with the power and because it's so light, I can easily move it around each vine and get the areas I want. Can you till several acres for corn? Sure if you have a couple months, but for an existing plot, or a new small one, or untilled dirt, it will do the job well. At this price point, I couldn't recommend it higher, especially those that don't want to have a sore back and shoulders trying to use/maneuver a larger gas tiller. Two thumbs up. Note: it will get to a 4 inch depth, which I plan on doing later this week after a little rain. Again, the video is first pass to get the majority of greenery out, next use will be to finish and get to deeper depth. ... show more

  • Good product, not for breaking ground.
This review is for Sun Joe 24V-X2-TLR14 48-Volt iON+ Cordless Garden Tiller/Cultivator Kit | W/ 2 x 2.0-Ah Batteries and Charger. The machine is very light weight for a tiller, almost too light weight as it will “bounce” off hard patches from time to time. I used the sun joe tiller to break ground on a new garden space and to re-till an old space. It worked well on the previously tilled space (roughly 3 years previous), but could not break ground on the new garden space. This is not a matter of function, but the light weight of machine. The solution was to use a shovel to pierce the fully established grass prior to tilling. The 2.0Ah batteries that came with the machine last roughly 30-45 minutes of constant running. I also purchased the larger 6.0Ah batteries pictured which provided 90-120 minutes of constant running. I can safely say I have beat the sun joe tiller into submission and it has been very durable, EVEN when breaking ground. ... show more

  • Well worth the cost
I ordered this thinking I might get a few months of use out it before it died. To my pleasant surprise, this thing is a beast. If you're looking to do sod-busting, this ain't for you. I have a rear tine, full size tiller for that. I was looking for a small tiller to work between rows and to do raised beds. I have had it, and sometimes abused it, for about a year now and it has far outpreformed what I expected. The tiller has excellent power, the battery life is over an hour on a charge, and the thing is super easy to lift and use. I highly recommend. ... show more

  • Great Rototiller!
I previously had a corded electric Sun Joe Rototiller/Cultivator, but when we moved to a much larger property there was no way to plug it in,so I got a battery powered one, and I love it! The batteries charge quickly and give close to an hour of effective use. The trick to removing the batteries is to grip them underneath whtere there are two little tabs at the back of each battery. Just squeeze them with your thumb and forefinger, brace the base with your other hand and pull. It took me awhile to figure this out, but once I did I was out in my garden getting ready for spring. It's best if the soil had been turned previously. This is not meant for hard dry dirt. You can push forward as you walk behind it. Then if you are comfortable walking backwards, you can get the soil to really turn well. I am almost 72, and have garden most of my adult life, and this is the best garden tool this old woman has ever worked with! ... show more

  • Too light to till even loose soil
This review is for the Sun Joe 24V-X2-TLR14 48-Volt iON+ Cordless Garden Tiller I settled for this tiller because larger gas powered alternatives have been out of stock for weeks... The Good: * Exceptionally maneuverable (5/5 star) * Exceptionally light (5/5 star) * Easy to assemble (5/5 star) * Very, very powerful motor. Only rocks can stop the tines from spinning * Reasonably priced at $259 The Bad: * The trigger handle is designed for safety, but just makes it hard to use * The charger is cheap compared to all of my other battery chargers And the Ugly: I'm a strong person, and let me tell you, this thing is a *lot* of work. The only way to make it till is to stand in one spot, work it a couple inches into the soil, and slowly pull it backwards over and over. If you've ever lifted weights think of using a rowing machine. Using this method you can till about two feet a minute, about two inches deep. And all the while you'll be fighting the trigger handle. The problem is this thing is so exceptionally light that it just bounces across the ground. After tilling two 25 foot rows I borrowed a neighbors rear tine Troy-Built tiller, which did the same job in 1/10th the time at 1/100th the effort. I found that you've got to fight the Sun Joe to get it to till *already* tilled soil... Compared to my other battery powered yard tools (two push mowers, a wheelbarrow, a leaf blower, and an awesome weed eater) this thing is a total flop. ... show more
