I will admit to being somewhat skeptic about a small lightweight battery operated mower, but WOW! I love it! Got here two weeks sooner than stated, lightweight even in the box. Took approx. 15 minutes for me to unpack it, and assemble it. Plugged in the charger and let them charge during supper and then went out to start it up to see how noisy it was. Super easy start...mowed one strip just to see how it mowed...raised it up a few notches (which by the way is done VERY easy with the lever) and ended up mowing the entire yard because it was so easy and fun!! Visited with a young man on bicycle who said he loved my mower, while I was mowing!! When I finished, approx. an hour later, the yard looked amazing and I still had 2 bars left on the batteries. the handles very easily fold up so it can be stored just about anywhere, and I cleaned it up with the leaf blower. The only bad thing I can come up with is the small 17 inch blade...I was using a 21 inch gas mower so yes, it took a few extra swipes but seriously...I didn't even notice. I could have mowed all night! To share: I am a 59 year old woman who had both knees replaced a year and a half ago and mowing is not going to be the worst chore anymore!! The media could not be loaded. 6/28/2021 New update after a year of using and abusing this mower: I am updating my review because this mower is a beast. After a year the battery’s still hold a charge and i still get over an hour of moving. It weighs almost nothing and is easy to clean and put away. I have bought more sun joe items since this mower blew my mind on cordless mowers. After a year I have only had to buy a new blade for it. (I have also updated my video to HD) ——————————————————— I am still so amazed at how good of a job this little mower does. I will start out saying it changed they way I look at electric battery operated lawn tools. The first thing I noticed when I started to use it is that it is so quiet. Am talking about having a peaceful mowing experience. I was able to still hear the birds chirping from the trees and even my wife from the garden. It starts up quick and is so easy to push and maneuver around. I just knew off that bat that this mower was going to be getting a review and a good one. Now for the details about the performance. With the battery’s charged I started a timer. I got my whole yard mowed and it still wasn’t dead. I ran it non stop for about 50-52 min with almost no loss in power at the end. See pictures for yard size. I also ran it really hard by cutting grass that was thick and tall. About 6 inches or so. I will also leave a picture of the mover next to the grass I was cutting. If it’s is really tall grass I would mow with the front wheels off the ground so that the clippings won’t clog up the housing. Then on the second pass I put it back down and it cut it up with no problems. (See video) Now in some of the other reviews I saw people say that it will not cut the grass low enough but it will and I posted pics. I first started with mowing a spot with it set all they the way up about 3inch cutting high. Then I did one row with it set all they way down #1 at about .5 inch. The left one in the picture and then I set it for 1inch #2 for the right side. It is also easy to adjust the deck height when needed. Over all this mower worked awesome and got the job done. The only somewhat con about it is that I’d dose not come with a discharge port for the grass clippings when mulching. So it can start to pack the grass up in the deck. But again I was cutting 5-6 inch tall grass that would even pack in on a gas mower. I noticed when I first got it that the grass catching bag had big crack but customer service helped me register it and get a replacement bagger. 10/10 on Support. This mower comes with a 2 year warranty that also include the 2 battery’s. You just can’t beat that. I will highly recommend this mover for anyone wanting a mind blowing experience. This is the third Sun Joe mower that I have owned and the first of this model Sun Joe 24V-X2-17LM Mulching Lawn Mower w/Grass Catcher, Kit (w/ 2X 4.0-Ah Battery and Charger). The two previous Sun Joe lawnmowers were the same model (Sun Joe iON16LM 40-Volt 16-Inch Brushless Cordless Lawn Mower). In this review, I will frequently compare the two. All around this model (Sun Joe 24V-X2-17LM) is a better mower. -- It comes with two batteries and a dual charger (as opposed to 1 battery and single charger for the iON16LM model). -- Both batteries are inserted at the same time, so you have pretty good power (for an electric mower). For me, this allows about an hour of mowing time. For my small suburban yard (2800 square feet) this is enough if I mow weekly. -- The safety key that comes with the mower is better designed. (In addition to age, the safety key and the slot it plugged into both broke on the first mower, which caused me to purchase a second one). -- The flap at the back of the mover is made of a heavy-grade rubber-like material. In addition, these Pros apply to the Sun Joe mowers I have owned: -- It is relatively light. -- The handle can be folded down. -- Like my previous Sun Joe push lawn mowers, this model took longer to roll out into the yard than it did to put it together. “Put it together” might be overstating the effort, as all you need to do is rotate the base of the handle assembly up and tighten the knobs on the lawnmower body. Then you put two screws (included) into the middle of the handle frame and add two plastic cable clips to hold close the cable running up one side of the handle. -- It includes the mulching plug. When I got this model, the mulching plug was already in place but is easy to remove if you wish to use the grass collection bag to the lawnmower. (I use the mulching plug, which I had to buy separately for the other model that I had.) Cons: To me, there are two cons about this mower (and the previous two Sun Joe mowers that I had): -- The cutting width is smaller than even a basic gas mower. -- If you use the grass collection bag, it is small and will need to be emptied a few times for each yard mowing. -- An additional con is that the approximately 5-year lifetime cost of the mower is probably a bit more than the lifetime cost of a well-taken care of cheap gas mower, even if you include the cost of gas over that time. However, across four or five years that difference will be small. Personally, I can live with these cons as I do not use the clipping collection bag and I do not have to buy gas for a mower and remember to drain the gas in the fall to protect a gas mower’s engine. This product is mostly plastic as another reviewer pointed out, but based on my experience with Sun Joes’ lawnmowers, I expect that if the lawnmower and its batteries are treated properly, the batteries will be ok for four of five seasons and the mower itself will last longer than that if taken care of. ... show more
