The media could not be loaded. I have several tools from SunJoe, and they all fall into the budget-friendly category while still delivering good performance for typical homeowner use. This Sun Joe Ecosharp cordless pruning saw is no different. I don’t use a tool like this constantly, but when I do, it is very nice to have on hand. It works well for branches that are too thick for standard pruning shears but not big enough to justify dragging out a full-size chainsaw. For general yard cleanup, trimming overgrowth, and cutting small limbs, the effectiveness and overall functionality line up well with what I need as a homeowner. The main drawback I ran into is with some of the included accessories. The safety glasses are borderline unusable due to distortion, which may also speak towards their effectiveness, so I threw those away. They technically work if you have nothing else, but I would recommend using your own or getting something better. It’s worth spending the money on a safety item. There is also a small learning curve with oiling the chain if you haven’t done it before. You need to manually add oil to the reservoir and pump it onto the chain before use. It comes with a small bottle of lube, so you can apply it directly to the chain. Aside from that, I didn’t run into any major usability issues. The build quality is about what I expect from SunJoe, which is to say it feels appropriate for the price point. It’s lightweight, compact, and easy to handle with one hand. I was easily able to record my video while opening the tool. However, it doesn’t have an extension or any way to get limbs that may be higher in the tree. The included case is a nice addition and helps keep everything organized, especially with the extra chain, oil, charger, and tools included. It all just slots into a spot, making storage and cleanup much easier. The unit runs pretty quietly for a chainsaw, so no need for earplugs. One of the best features of this kit is the 20-volt, 4.0-amp-hour battery, which provides more than enough runtime for typical yard work. I have other SunJoe tools that use the same battery form factor, so it’s nice that there is some compatibility between tools. Performance-wise, the saw can cut branches up to 5 inches thick, but it becomes difficult beyond that. It doesn’t bog down; it’s just awkward to make a clean cut in a tree branch this size, but it’s manageable as long as you are careful and take your time with it. It starts instantly with the trigger and has safety features like a lock button and a chain cover, which enhance usability and ease of use. Overall, this is a good option if you are a homeowner looking for something between manual pruning tools and a full chainsaw. The value is good for the price, especially given the included battery and accessories. The battery alone goes for around 50 dollars, so you get a pretty discounted tool for only 80 dollars. This is exactly what you expect. It's a great pruner that can be easily handled with one hand. The Sun Joe comes in a case that has all the extras you need to get going with your springtime trimming. Inside the case are: a pair of gloves, safety glasses, oil, screwdriver, wrench, spare chain, battery, charger and instructions. I really like that everything is packed away in a small case. The added safety feature with the Sun Joe is a top side chain guard. It's nice as a safety feature. But it does limit you to cutting only in one direction. The gloves in the case are basic use one-time gloves. It's nice that they included a pair, but you'll want to use your own gloves. The pruner works well with your small stuff. I haven't tested the life of the battery. But, so far its lasted for the basic pruning I needed to do. It does come with a 3+year warranty, which is almost unheard of for hand tools. The only thing slightly confusing is the saw is Sun Joe, but the battery is SnowJoe. Don't know if that's intentional or a misprint. ... show more

    • Poor Cutting Performance
The media could not be loaded. The good news is that it comes with everything you need to start pruning. Mini chainsaw, gloves, safety glasses, tools, extra chain all in a handy case. The brand we bought 2 years ago didn't include the chain oil. The ad says 1 year warranty, but the documentation with the chainsaw states 2 years of Sun Joe warranty, plus another year through Warranty Plus and an extra 90-days when you register it. Wow! 3+ years is amazing. Unfortunately, we found the performance of this model to be less than amazing. It kind of tore its way through smaller 1" diameter branches and struggled with thicker ones (2 inch). Yes, we tightened the chain and recharged the battery overnight. It's rated as being 550Wats of pruning power. Others in the same price range are 700-1000W. It could be a dull chain, the lack of power, or both.
