The media could not be loaded. I have several tools from SunJoe, and they all fall into the budget-friendly category while still delivering good performance for typical homeowner use. This Sun Joe Ecosharp cordless pruning saw is no different. I don’t use a tool like this constantly, but when I do, it is very nice to have on hand. It works well for branches that are too thick for standard pruning shears but not big enough to justify dragging out a full-size chainsaw. For general yard cleanup, trimming overgrowth, and cutting small limbs, the effectiveness and overall functionality line up well with what I need as a homeowner. The main drawback I ran into is with some of the included accessories. The safety glasses are borderline unusable due to distortion, which may also speak towards their effectiveness, so I threw those away. They technically work if you have nothing else, but I would recommend using your own or getting something better. It’s worth spending the money on a safety item. There is also a small learning curve with oiling the chain if you haven’t done it before. You need to manually add oil to the reservoir and pump it onto the chain before use. It comes with a small bottle of lube, so you can apply it directly to the chain. Aside from that, I didn’t run into any major usability issues. The build quality is about what I expect from SunJoe, which is to say it feels appropriate for the price point. It’s lightweight, compact, and easy to handle with one hand. I was easily able to record my video while opening the tool. However, it doesn’t have an extension or any way to get limbs that may be higher in the tree. The included case is a nice addition and helps keep everything organized, especially with the extra chain, oil, charger, and tools included. It all just slots into a spot, making storage and cleanup much easier. The unit runs pretty quietly for a chainsaw, so no need for earplugs. One of the best features of this kit is the 20-volt, 4.0-amp-hour battery, which provides more than enough runtime for typical yard work. I have other SunJoe tools that use the same battery form factor, so it’s nice that there is some compatibility between tools. Performance-wise, the saw can cut branches up to 5 inches thick, but it becomes difficult beyond that. It doesn’t bog down; it’s just awkward to make a clean cut in a tree branch this size, but it’s manageable as long as you are careful and take your time with it. It starts instantly with the trigger and has safety features like a lock button and a chain cover, which enhance usability and ease of use. Overall, this is a good option if you are a homeowner looking for something between manual pruning tools and a full chainsaw. The value is good for the price, especially given the included battery and accessories. The battery alone goes for around 50 dollars, so you get a pretty discounted tool for only 80 dollars.     • Nice cordless saw for small branches / jobs
I acquired this small chainsaw for cutting some small branches and honeysuckle that is growing around the parameter of our home. I do have a full size chainsaw, but sometimes I need something smaller to carry and do the job, but also it needs to be tougher than a pair of simple pruning shears. I have used a variety of Sun Joe products in the past and have been pleased with their performance, so I thought I would give this mini-chainsaw a try. The kit is nice and compact and offers everything you need to get started. The kit even came with gloves and an extra chain. Once set up and oil was poured into the reservoir, the chainsaw worked great. I was able to cut off a few pesky branches and even cut down a large honeysuckle tree at its base. The saw is not intended for large diameters, but mostly smaller jobs. Think of it for jobs that are larger than pruning shears, but smaller than a full size chainsaw. The battery held up well and I was able to get about 25 minutes the first round. I had used it to down a honeysuckle that did have a larger diameter. Had I used it for smaller branches, I think I would have gotten more time out of it. My only slight complaint about this saw is that it only includes one battery, whereases similar models will have two. The other concern I have is that this is not a generic battery, but rather one that is unique to this series of tools. I did check around but I could not find where I could purchase a spare battery. I don't expect this saw to last a lifetime, but I hope at least three years. I just hope the battery holds up that long as well. Sun Joe 20V ECOSHARP Cordless Handheld Saw I was so excited to get this. I have a few full-size chainsaws and one handheld chainsaw, but this one is between those two sizes. I just had a 100 foot tree taken down so knew I would put this to use, and I already have. It has things I like and things I don't. Pros: I immediately loved the great case and molded holders for the wrench, saw, oil, etc. It's so nice to be able to organize everything and carry it all together to the field. During the first few cuts it felt like it was ripping more than cutting the wood, but I just got in from another trip and it seems like it is cutting better now. It has no problem cutting through any small branches I try it on. Cons (sort of): These aren't so much cons as things I don't like. There is a spot on the handle for the wrench, but not for the screwdriver, and they have to be used together, so what's the point? The protective glasses that come with are crap so throw those away. They distort your view. My other handheld saw does not have an oil reservoir so I tried to look it up in the manual. There are so many warnings it's hard to find the actual information you need. I never did find it, and the company did not contact me back. If cutting up pines, needles will jam up between the saw and the cover, but they are easy to pull out. All in all, this is a nice little saw, and the price has come down from when I ordered it so it's even better. The saw is a 5 star. The stuff that comes WITH the saw is a four- or three-star.
