  • Great tool
I wish I had this tool earlier I have several chain saws that use different chain sizes and this tool definitely tells me which one is which. Also it is very handy when getting a replacement chain this tool will definitely give you all of the specifications needed to buy a new chain when used right. It is simple to use it takes out all the guess work so when heading to the store you know exactly what you are looking for. ... show more

  • Helpful For Sorting Chains
I sharpen and repair lots of chainsaw chains for other people. So it’s nice to have a gauge or tool to help sort out different chains by pitch, gauge, etc. Each manufacturer has its own letter / number codes to identify chains, but these are not uniform or consistent. So, a gauge like this can even be helpful for someone who has more than one saw, or runs different brands of chains. This STIHL product helps identify chain pitch, chain gauge, guide bar, gauge, sprocket pitch, and file diameter, for any brand or make of those products. It’s size makes it a little clumsier to use than similar products by Oregon, Husqvarna, and Granberg. But it is the only one that includes sprocket pitch (although, not 3/8 low profile / ‘Picco’). They are handy and convenient. I keep one of each hanging on a nail, near where I sort chains, and one in my field tool kit. ... show more

  • Impossible to read, there are better guides!
Measurements are nearly impossible to distinguish. The piece of plastic has a multiple sizes of markings which are very thin raised letters with no contrast so the letters can be read. Additionally the sides and corners are approximately a Font Size of 6 or less and required a phone to be able to digitally expand to determine the markings. This would have been very simple to make useful, but it is really a 3 1/2" square of overpriced plastic. Am ordering the Oregon guide, this is going to end up at the bottom of the tool box and forgotten. Advice - do not waste you money! ... show more
