Stiebel Eltron SHC series mini-tank electric water heater is ideal for office buildings, stores, malls, warehouses, food trucks, restaurants, gas stations, schools, hotels/motels, commercial, industrial and institutional. residential: bathroom sinks, kitchen sinks, rvs, cabins/cottages, low flow showers and laundry areas. An SHC mini-tank frees up precious space while providing plenty of hot water for hand washing or kitchen applications. Plumbed with cold water and used as a stand-alone supply of hot water, or plumbed with hot water from a remote tank to minimize delays, an SHC always delivers hot water when needed. By put - ting hot water right where it is used, pipe runs are minimized and water and energy use reduced. The smaller tank coupled with superb insulation reduces stand-by losses especially when compared with larger tank-type water heaters. With its flat back and included bracket an SHC easily mounts right under or near the sink. Once filled with water it simply plugs into a 120 V outlet. With only an 11 amp current draw, no special wiring is required. Lightweight and compact, the SHC saves space, quickly provides hot water right where it is needed. This is a great product. It gives us instant hot water in our kitchen. Without it, our kitchen takes forever to get hot water and you end up wasting multiple gallons of water. Super easy to install All the fittings are a standard size. This is the second one I’ve ordered, our previous one lasted seven years before it burned out. Highly recommended. Small size fits underneath the sink easily. Dial Control to change the heat, very easy to control heat function. No leaks just make sure you use Teflon tape and make sure everything is tight. I would recommend after turning it on and allowing the device to get up to full temperature that you check your water fittings again and make sure they are still tight. The only downside to this unit is that it’s not completely sealed and the warm inside makes a nice home for creepy crawlers so make sure you have some insecticide in the area where you place this. ... show more

    • Great addition for a kitchen sink or any vanity
1 Year review We purchased this 2.5 gallons WH for our kitchen sink and dishwasher as our home was plumbed in a way that the kitchen sink is a farthest point from our 50 gallon WH. To run a kitchen sink or dishwasher, it requires significant amount of wasted water to be flushed down the drain, not to mention heat loss in pipes (this is why a recirculating pump is a no go for this fixture). We choose 2.5G simply because its the biggest one could fit in an under sink cabinet. We also connected it to a 15AMP outlet with wireless switch rated at 1850Watt consumption. I tapped into a COLD water instead of hot, as I don’t want to draw all that water from a big one and waste water I can use for a shower or laundry. You definitely can connect it to a hot side, but it works flawlessly on cold one too. Beware that there will be a recharge of about 15-18 minutes if you depleted whole WH, but recovery gets you a nice warm water even after couple of minutes. It’ll not happen on a hot side, since water will get up to a temperature before your little tank was depleted. But again, you most probably will experience what called “a temperature sandwich”. When choosing the right size tank, be aware that there’s pressure relief valve sticking 2-3” on top. Make sure you install a drain for this valve and route it outside. We set the tank at very high setting to keep as much hot water possible to mix with cold water at the sink. We also run it only for when we need it, before turning dishwasher or cooking, which saves huge amount of wasted energy and money. Overall we are very happy with this one, no more waiting for hot water, wasting energy and water. I suggest to install them at any fixture that far from your whole house WH. I also recommend to get a under sink pan and water leak detector (ring is the best I could find so far) in case you have a leak. ... show more

    • Awesome solution for instant hot water!
This was the perfect solution for our kitchen sink. It normally took over a minute for the hot water to start getting warm (and used 2 1/4 gallons of water doing it). I smile every time I turn on the hot water now. It literately takes 1 second to come out hot. Here's a few things to help you out that I didn't know at first: 1) The 2 water nipples on top are 1/2" MIP, not 3/4", like standard water heaters have, and me and the guy at Home Depot thought. We went through many variations of fittings before we were satisfied, only for me to find out when I got home only one would work. To be fair he was super helpful, it was my fault for not measuring the connections in the first place. That being said, a standard 1/2" braided faucet hose fits these. I did use a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter for the hose going back to my faucet, because that's what it was. 2) If you can fit the 4 gallon unit under your sink, get it. I could only fit the 2.5 and it does start to get luke warm after about a minute, but I hooked up my house hot water to the intake side, and it starts getting hot a little while later. I figured that would happen given my time and flow experiment earlier, but oh well, concessions. 3) I found a cheap cake sheet pan to set the unit in, just in case, and I'm glad I did. A week after install I had a small water leak (my poor plumbing skills) and my cabinet bottom was dry because the water dripped into the pan. Time will now tell how long it lasts and how often I need to look at the anode rod, but for now, I very happy with this heater! ... show more

I’m very impressed by this little hot water heater. I installed it as a booster on the hot water line. There is a room in the basement directly below the bathroom lavatory with access to the pipes. The hot water comes on in a few seconds, it used to take a very long time to travel 50 feet from the hot water heater. Also notice the valve I added on the intake, and the pipe to send any water from the release valve into a plastic bin underneath. These are both highly recommended. I had tried one of those recycling pumps first but it never worked properly. ... show more

    • Great auxiliary water heater.
We bought and installed this unit under our kitchen sink. The kitchen sink is the furthest plumbing fixture in our house from our tankless water heater. We love the tankless water heater, but because it makes hot water on demand it was slow getting water to our kitchen sink. We plumbed this in-line, i.e. hot to hot, and it eliminated the annoying delay to get hot water at the primary kitchen sink to wash hands, etc. Our tankless system took 1 minuted and 40 seconds to deliver hot water to that sink and ran 2 gallons of water down the drain. We now have hot water there in about 2 seconds and we waste less water and time. Hopefully, heating 2.5 gallons of water in a tank will not significantly impact our electric bill. We love the main tankless system we have and it saves energy, but it's located on the ground floor garage area and the kitchen in our home is on the opposite side of the house on the third floor. I just hope that we get at least 5 years out of this small tank so the annual cost of owning it is reasonable. ... show more

    • Thermostat is 20 degrees off
We just installed it 4 days ago, and so far we like it very much. The deciding facture was that it has a stainless steel tank. Most people that did not like their water heater said that it rusted. So, I decided that the one I bought would have to have a stainless steel tank. And, though I am almost sure the thermostat is 20 degrees off, we still like it. It is set at 125 degrees and the temperature is fine. We bought this water heater because it is about 50 feet from our water heater to our bathroom and we were wasting a lot of water to get warm water to our bathroom. (We have a well and I don't like washing my hands or face in 55 degree water.) You might also note that we put the water heater in our crawl space and connected it to a GFI plug. There is a lot of debate whether or not we needed to, but to be on the safe side we installed a 20 amp GFI next to the water heater. 2 years and 3 months later----The thermostat is hardly working at all. I am going to replace it and see if the water heater works more consistantly. If I had it to do all over again I would probably opt for a cheap water heater and then if it dosen't work well I would just chaulk it up to a cheap water heater. But since this is rather on the high side of cost I am a little disappointed. ... show more

    • Great at a remote sink.
This small water heater has been great for our kitchen sink, which is on the other side of our house from our main water heater. Then our hot water line was set in our slab (on grade), which means it takes a LONG time and a LOT of water before hot water reached the sink. Fortunately, we had a trash compactor (remember those?) next to our kitchen sink so when we removed the compactor there was a perfect spot for this water heater. Installation was a snap once I got all the water lines in place. The only downside for us was that because of our extremely hard water the heating element scaled over and ultimately degraded performance to the point where we replaced it after about 5 years. I replaced it with the same unit and will just replace it again in another 5 years, if we're stilll living here. I like it that much. ... show more

    • Hot water in one second. Priceless!
Got this 2.5 gallon water heater to provide instant hot water at our kitchen sink because the main water heater is too far away. Connected it to the hot water shutoff valve, and then direct to the faucet and dishwasher using flexible SS connectors. Had to install a 15 amp receptacle under the sink to plug it into. Now we get hot water from the faucet in about 1 second! Sure beats waiting 30 or 40 seconds like before. We love it and should have done it sooner. The temperature varies a little bit from "nice and hot" to "pretty warm" depending on how long it's been since the heater last cycled. Since it is connected to the hot water line from the main water heater, it never runs out of hot (or at least quite warm) water. It never fires up for more than a few minutes at a time, and recovery time is very fast. Ther are several brands of mini-tank water heaters available, all have a different shape and configuration. We picked this Stiebel primarily because its round footprint and size fit the available space under the sink better. You don't want to have the water heater take up all your storage space there, and you want to be able to get it in around existing pipes, drains, disposal etc. So best do some up front planning to decide exactly where you will put it. I bought a plastic storage box and set the tank in it, with a $10 water sensor to warn if any leaks develop, since I didn't bother to drain it out through the house wall. ... show more
