  • Great addition for a kitchen sink or any vanity
1 Year review We purchased this 2.5 gallons WH for our kitchen sink and dishwasher as our home was plumbed in a way that the kitchen sink is a farthest point from our 50 gallon WH. To run a kitchen sink or dishwasher, it requires significant amount of wasted water to be flushed down the drain, not to mention heat loss in pipes (this is why a recirculating pump is a no go for this fixture). We choose 2.5G simply because its the biggest one could fit in an under sink cabinet. We also connected it to a 15AMP outlet with wireless switch rated at 1850Watt consumption. I tapped into a COLD water instead of hot, as I don’t want to draw all that water from a big one and waste water I can use for a shower or laundry. You definitely can connect it to a hot side, but it works flawlessly on cold one too. Beware that there will be a recharge of about 15-18 minutes if you depleted whole WH, but recovery gets you a nice warm water even after couple of minutes. It’ll not happen on a hot side, since water will get up to a temperature before your little tank was depleted. But again, you most probably will experience what called “a temperature sandwich”. When choosing the right size tank, be aware that there’s pressure relief valve sticking 2-3” on top. Make sure you install a drain for this valve and route it outside. We set the tank at very high setting to keep as much hot water possible to mix with cold water at the sink. We also run it only for when we need it, before turning dishwasher or cooking, which saves huge amount of wasted energy and money. Overall we are very happy with this one, no more waiting for hot water, wasting energy and water. I suggest to install them at any fixture that far from your whole house WH. I also recommend to get a under sink pan and water leak detector (ring is the best I could find so far) in case you have a leak. ... show more

  • Good little heater
Easy to install and use. Probably would have gotten the larger one in retrospect though. Have no long term experience to comment on, but so far so good.

  • Fast HOT Water
Our Kitchen hot water was run for 48 seconds at full stream to get HOT water. That is a lot of wasted time and water. Our pipes are buried and 28 feet distance heater to sink. I connet this 2.5 gallon water heater to the cold water pipe, not the hot water. This water heater at the kitchen sink supplies all the kitchen sink and dish washer with HOT water. Yes, there are other ways to connect this heater, but this has worked best for us. Results, HOT water in 3 seconds. I have personally installed three 2.5 water heaters and they are well built and if you need tech support they are very good. 48 seconds vs now 3 seconds for HOT watrr. ... show more

  • Perfect Fit -- Wish I ahd Ordered the 4-gallon Size
I had previously ordered a heater that was made in China. The allure of that unit was the Stainless Steel tank. Alas, the pipe fittings were horrendous, so I returned it. The Stiebel-Eltron was very well made, and I will just make sure to clean the element once a year (hard water), and inspect/change the anode biannually. I installed the unit in a cabinet adjacent to the under-sink cabinet because we have a big farmhouse sink taking up the space in the sink-cabinet. I had to use a slightly longer water supply hose, but it was really no problem to install (only one cuss word when I hit my head against the door jamb of the cabinet--ouch! If the unit remains functional after a year, I will probably upgrade the rating to 5 stars. I didn't use Tech support, so no rating. ... show more

  • Very happy with this water heater
I did a lot of research before buying this water heater. I wanted it for under our kitchen sink. I read the 1 star reviews, factoring out the idiots, then compared to the 5 star reviews which outweighed them. I had this installed by a plumber since our kitchen was being remodeled. It was bigger and heavier than expected but I wanted good supply of instant hot water. The weight was a plus for me since I equate that to quality materials inside. I thought the design was very nice. It's good looking product. it has worked flawlessly. The thermostat control on top is very smooth and adjustable to any temp. I keep ours around 120 deg. I get hot water in about 2 sec's which is mostly determined by the length of cable from the heater to the tap. I'm convinced that I will pay for this in a year or so on the 3-4 minutes of water I had to run down the sink every time I wanted hot water. I love it. Time will tell if it lasts and doesn't leak like some people complained about. Going to put a water tray underneath just in case. Be aware, for code you'll have to run the presssure relief line to the outside. Glad I had the plumber do this. ... show more

  • Kitchen sink, hot water in 5 seconds
Install was simple enough (I’m a contractor though, so..) The 2.5 size was good for our kitchen sink, hot water in 5 seconds now instead of 3 minutes. Once in a while there’ll be a drop from the hottest water temperature , not a big drop but when we use a lot of volume steadily without breaks the cold water coming in from the cool piping on the other side of tank mixes in quickly enough so the tank falls a bit behind in keeping the water piping hot. The waters coming from our main hot tank so when that gets to the small tank the temp quickly gets back to hot; I’ve got the little tank set below its maximum, water is hotter than I can hold my hand in. BTW, I installed a touch-control Delta faucet with it, man what an upgrade..hot water with instant on-off at the flick of a finger tip while holding dirty dishes or whatever in your other hand(s). Fab! ... show more
