This adjustable Step2Bed was purchased as a gift for my Dad, who had recently gone through major gastrointestinal surgery, and was in need of a helpful method of gently stepping up to [and down from] his elevated bed. Prior to his release from medical care, I researched and compared the benefits of each every step offered through Amazon, and chose Step2Bed for several reasons: * The solid metal handrails, wide metal platform, and solid metal, rubber-covered leg bottoms, which would provide stability and reassurance to my Dad (that he would not easily lose his balance, and that the step would not slide on the hardwood flooring). * The varying height, sturdy handrails on either end of the wide platform meant that this platform could be placed on either side of Dad's bed, and he would not risk damaging the fragile skin of his legs, when swinging his legs onto [or off of] his bed, yet maintain a firm grasp on the taller handrail for support. * The adjustability of the platform height. My sister and I assembled the Step2Bed in very short order given the simple instructions (which were a breeze!), and when Dad returned home from the rehabilitation center, he asked that the platform be adjusted just slightly higher ~ We elevated the platform in less than five minutes! * The motion-sensing platform light. This was a big selling point for me, as Dad's safety is of great concern to our family. When Dad walks into his room, the motion-sensing light turns on, providing coverage of the wide platform and floor beyond. During Dad's healing process, this motion sensing light provides him with the assurance of being able to maneuver his walker into the room to reach the light switch without tripping. Further, the light is an invaluable safety asset, for the sudden, middle-of-the-night trip to the bathroom, and safely returning to his bed. For our Dad, as independent as he has always been, Step2Bed now provides him with a very safe means of maintaining his independence for the most basic of mobility issues: Getting in and out of bed safely. He will rid himself of the walker once he regains his strength, but I have absolutely no doubt that his Step2Bed is staying right by his bed for everyday / everynight use! Step2Bed is one of the best products I have found to fit this critical need, and I cannot speak highly enough as to it's thoughtful construction. Stand came well packaged. A few minute job to assemble. Well made and sturdy for wife with some stability issues to get into higher bed. Light that comes with it is well made with motion detector and more than adequate brightness. Heavy enough to stay in place without attaching to bed. Would buy again

My mother-in-law was using a small step stool to climb in and out of bed each day, and somehow lost two of it's rubber feet, causing it to slide and become unstable for her. We purchased another similar model here on Amazon that claimed to be made to help the elderly. Complete junk; the feet were made of plastic, not rubber, and they slid around on our tile floors like walking on ice. THIS device, however, is just amazing. Easy to assemble, easy to adjust, and remarkably sturdy. I really appreciated the motion-sensitive light, but I DO have a suggestion. The light comes with an adhesive strip that allows you to stick it to a piece of the frame meant for that purpose. However, the battery compartment isn't the easiest to open or remove spent batteries from if you permanently stick it to the frame. You'll almost need to lift and tilt the entire step-stool in order to remove spent batteries. Instead, attach Velcro strips to the light and to the stool frame so it can be easily removed in order to change the batteries and replaced back onto the stool frame.

This makes it a lot easier for my mother to get into and out of bed her high bed. I like that the step is very large and that it's height adjustable. However, it is not as stable as I'd like, even with the bolts tightened down really tight. It makes a metallic creaky noise when stepping onto it, and the grab bars move slightly. That's a bit disconcerting, but I know it's not going to break. The steel is quite sturdy. The assembly instruction aren't very clear, and you have to rely on the diagrams and online videos to figure out how it goes together. It would be easier to assemble with two people. I could not get the bolt holes to line up without turning the center crossbar upside down. This results in the light being on top of, instead of under its shield. It comes on when it senses the slightest movement, such as when the bed linens move. Pretty annoying, but certainly does light up the step. In fact it lights up half the room! When deciding if I should use the step with or without the light, I chose to use it with the light. Even though it comes on all night long, and can be a bit sleep disturbing, it helps tremendously with orientation and footing when Mom gets out of bed in the middle of the night.

I have been using this to access my tall bed after surgery & nerve damage to one leg. I am able to easily get into bed using this step. It is very wide, and could be less wide by half, and still be effective. I like the included motion sensitive step light.
