Description

The Steelcase Series 1 chair has a LiveBack™ flexor system in the backrest which conforms to your body and moves with you to support the spine as you change postures. The tilt mechanism is synchronized; the seat and back work in harmony with each other, keeping the body securely supported in the chair and feet firmly planted on the floor so you can recline without leaving your optimal zone for seeing and reaching your work. This model includes an adjustable seat depth, fully adjustable arms (raise up and down, pivot in and out, shift forward and back and side to side), adjustable lumbar, pneumatic seat height adjustment, recline tension adjustment (weight activated with adjustment and lock), flexing back with mesh upholstery, upholstered seat and wheels for carpet flooring. The seat features strong yet pliable foam which conforms to the body and creates pressure-free comfort. Flexible seat edge offers a bit of bend, right where you need it – relieving pressure points under your thighs. This chair will arrive unassembled and require some assembly; covered by Steelcase warranty.

  • Nice chair
Color: Scarlet Style: Carpet Casters Pattern Name: Chair
Good: Just about everything. Attractive design; easy to assemble; reasonably lightweight; easy to adjust; well-ventilated; comfortable in extended use; good price relative to similar chairs. Bad: The tops of the armrests move forward and back, left and right, very easily, with no way to lock them in place. More annoying than useful. The recliner allegedly has three settings plus lock. I can find no difference in the settings, all three let the back recline with too little pressure. I ended up locking the back in place. Bottom line: This replaced a 30-year-old midrange office chair that was on its last legs. Even allowing for age, the difference in adjustability and "sit" is obvious. Plus, this one doesn't creak every time I move. It isn't an Aeron, but it's closer than the one-third-the-price tag would suggest. I'm happy with it. Five stars. ... show more

  • All day comfort chair
Color: Nickel Style: Carpet Casters Pattern Name: Chair
This Steelcase Series 1 chair is made with good quality material, multi-point adjustability, very easy to assemble without having to use any tool, and best for me was its seat height that goes low enough for short people like me. I can sit right with both of my feet firmly on the ground and I can feel a good lumber support. It would even be better if the depth of lumber support can also be adjusted in addition to the position. Also, it is not easy to adjust the lumber support balanced - left and right side does not move up and down together, meaning one side can be higher while the other is lower. But this chair really brings comfort for the entire day, fits perfectly for a short people. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Don't be scared! (Long and honest review)
Color: Licorice Style: Carpet Casters Pattern Name: Solid
I work in an office where we have literally thousands of Steelcase Leap chairs. I've seen people abuse there's by spilling coffee, green smoothies, and yogurt on them. I've seen them used as step stools and used in 'chair races'. I've personally been using the same one for going on 4 years and I have *never* seen one break to the point of being unusable or beyond the point of repair. I also have an Interior Design degree specializing in Commercial office design and have a lot of respect for the Steelcase brand. That being said, I'm not prepared to spend $950 on a Leap chair...eek. While totally worth it, in my opinion, I wanted something a little cheaper for my home office. About 3 months ago I started having problems with my left hip. Like a lot of people, I was using a desk chair I had purchased at Office Depot...my 3rd in 5 years...and the seat was aggravating my hip. I knew I needed a good quality chair and I had noticed my hip NEVER hurt while at work using my Leap chair. I wanted to give Steelcase a shot. After looking at several Steelcase options, I came across the Series 1 and thought it hit all my high points - lower lumbar support, adjustments for seat depth and seat height, and adjustable arms. And best of all the price wasn't super ridiculous. I had been paying around $150 per chair I bought at Office Depot - 3 chairs totaling $450 - the $430 for the Series 1 didn't look so bad. So I took a chance on a $430 chair that had zero reviews. :) It came fully put together in a large box. It was secured well enough and there was no damage in shipping to the chair. The chair is also super light weight so it was no problem hauling it upstairs fully assembled. It has a nice firm seat that is comfortable and has helped immensely with my hip pain. And while the lumbar support isn't quite as strong as I like, it does give support and I really like the shape of the back of the chair. It feels molded to my back and the mesh is very breathable. The only negative I can give this chair is the arms feel a little flimsy. I feel like I need to be careful with how much pressure I put on the arms getting up and down for fear they might weaken over time. No issues as of yet though. TLDR? I sincerely wish I could give this a 4.5! I feel that would be perfect and very fair. I can't in good conscious give it a full 5 stars because of the arms, but I feel this is a great chair and worth the higher price tag. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone that wants a good quality chair by a respected name that will last for several years. ... show more

  • Beautiful Chair
Color: Tangerine Style: Hard Floor Casters Pattern Name: Chair
Beautiful chair with high quality parts. Comfortable to sit and work for hours. Very simple to assemble. Rolls nicely on my hardwood. Arm rest swivel as your arm position moves, and this is a great feature.

  • Budget Friendly and I like the quality
Color: Nickel Style: Carpet Casters Pattern Name: Chair
I work 8-10hr days in front of my PC, plus a little gaming. I'm short and stocky. My previous chair was a cheap no name brand that I received as a gift. It retails around $150 on amazon. After 1 yr of ownership, everything about that old chair was just negative and I won't detail here. With regards to this new chair, it's been only 1 day, but I felt compelled to write a review as I think I hit the jackpot. Pros Quiet! Hopefully it stays that way Firm and comfortable seat (for me) Hopefully holds up over time. Carpet casters roll well on my carpet Simple to put together, took 3 min. and 2 mins of that was opening the box. Cons Price, I still hate that I paid $500 for a chair but if this chair is solid in the long run, it will be worth every penny. I find the tops of the armrests swivel too much, wish they could be locked in place. Will update if this chair doesn't hold up over time. ... show more

  • Not a bad chair, but not fantastic. Probably great for a small and light person.
Color: Licorice Style: Carpet Casters Pattern Name: Solid
It's not a bad chair, it's just not great. I find the bottom seat cushion not super soft, but adequate. I'm 180lbs and 5' 10" so I'm not a huge guy. I could see a larger person actually not even fitting in this chair. But my biggest gripe is that the spring that holds the back is not strong enough. If I have it in the locked position, the back is too erect, and if I have it on the first setting that allows for the back to tip then the spring is not strong enough and when I sit and lean back just a tad, it tips back too far, making my sitting posture very poor. So, bottom line, I would not buy this chair again for me. I'm accustomed to the Herman Miller Aeron, but didn't want to spend the big bucks to get another one when my Aeron started to wear out after 5 years too. I did have a younger & lighter person try this chair, and they said the spring was fine for them and not too weak/loose. But they commented that the little arm wrests seemed silly and flimsy, which is perhaps true, but I don't use them at all since my hands are always at my keyboard on my desk and it doesn't bother me. ... show more
