The Steelcase Series 1 chair has a LiveBack™ flexor system in the backrest which conforms to your body and moves with you to support the spine as you change postures. The tilt mechanism is synchronized; the seat and back work in harmony with each other, keeping the body securely supported in the chair and feet firmly planted on the floor so you can recline without leaving your optimal zone for seeing and reaching your work. This stool height model includes an adjustable seat depth, fully adjustable arms (raise up and down, pivot in and out, shift forward and back and side to side), adjustable lumbar, pneumatic seat height adjustment, recline tension adjustment (weight activated with adjustment and lock), flexing back with mesh upholstery, upholstered seat and wheels for carpet flooring. The seat features strong yet pliable foam which conforms to the body and creates pressure-free comfort. Flexible seat edge offers a bit of bend, right where you need it – relieving pressure points under your thighs. This chair will arrive unassembled and require some assembly; covered by Steelcase warranty.

  • Well-made stool with limited adjustment
This is a high quality stool constructed solidly of top-notch materials. I wish it were a better fit for me. I am a 5' 10", 180 lb male and the footrest ring (which is not adjustable) is an inch or two too high for my liking. When I put the seat (which is adjustable) at its top height and rest my feet on the foot ring, my knees are pushed up higher than is comfortable for me. Also, there are three positions for the seat back - (1) locked upright, (2) reclinable with spring tension, and (3) fully reclinable without tension. Frankly, I don't experience much difference between positions 2 and 3; the seat back seems have the same amount of tension in either position. I would probably tighten the tension a bit (if it were adjustable, which it is not), but it is reasonably firm as is. The locking position -- #1 -- is fixed. You can't lean back a little and lock the seat back into the position you chose; there is only one rather upright position the seat back locks into place. That position doesn't work for me. I suspect Steelcase made the design compromises of limited adjustability to meet this price point on the Series 1. I also suspect the chair would be a good fit for someone with smaller dimensions (say about 5 fewer inches height and 40 fewer pounds weight) than me. While I can't give the chair a top rating due to the fact it doesn't work for me, I can attest to its good materials and solid construction. It's worth giving a try if you're looking for a quality product from a reputable manufacturer at a good price point. I'm disappointed it wasn't quite right for me, but think it would be a good fit for others. ... show more

  • Meh
Just meh. I dont see why these Steelcase chairs are so expensive. Its pretty comfy, but I'm not blown away. It's mostly made of plastic. The arm rests don't lock in position; they just slide around everywhere. The lumbar support is essentially useless. I'll keep it (because it's not terrible, even though I can't think of a positive thing to say about it), but there must be something better for this kind of money. ... show more

  • Probably the best chair for the price if you have a tall desk
tl;dr - if you need an ergonomic, high-quality office stool because you have a high desk/standing desk, this is the product for you I did an almost frustrating amount of research to find the right chair. My workspace requirements mean I need a chair that rises above the standard ~21”. I personally believe this is the best stool/drafting chair for the price. I couldn’t find another website for this chair out there that wasn’t sketchy and I’m happy with my decision. The chair came in 4 pieces and took 3 mins or less to assemble. Super easy. Two gripes: the instructions have a QR code to an install video (cool feature) but the YouTube video is private so I couldn’t watch it. Ultimately unnecessary as it was so easy to assemble, but still. Secondly, the footrest is pointless. It’s too high up on the chair for me to comfortably rest my feet on, and it doesn’t protrude out far enough. I bought a separate ergonomic footrest that arrived in a week and will hopefully work out. ... show more

  • Superior to Entry Level Drafting Chairs
Do yourself a favor. Don't go for 99 dollar chair if you're sitting in it for a long time. Go Steelcase or Herman Miller. Your back will thank you for it in the long run. The Steelcase Series 1 is the perfect balance between dropping thousands and a barebones option. Plus you can add a headrest later if you choose. ... show more
