I replaced my generic 30-yr old porch lights with two of these barn lights. I really like the simple, classic styling of this light. The build-quality is very impressive - the gooseneck and base are made from heavy cast steel. The porcelain lamp socket is really hefty too - there's nothing comparable to it anywhere in my house. I selected the matte black exterior and brass interior. It has a nice, understated appearance. The brass finish of the interior is a darker hue than shown in the manufacturer's picture, still nice. One of my lights had a BB-size dent in the dome. It must have happened at the factory as the product came very well packaged. Anyway, it not visible to the casual observer. Overall an excellent product.

After reading the reviews, I had high expectations. And they were exceeded. the quality of the product is outstanding. The threads are cut to perfection. Every material and finish is the best it can be. Even the gasket and wires are of highest quality. Everything about this product is REAL, and the design and material choices were purposefully and thoughtfully done. In a world full of copy-cats and cost-cutting, this is a breath of fresh air. In this case, you do get what you pay for. I had some pre-purchase questions that were answered almost immediately, and completely. I'm blown away by teh customer service. And I don't say that often or lightly. This stuff is not inexpensive of course. Yet if you value high quality, then this is a far better deal than something that costs far less. This is exactly the sort of company and product that I wish to support. That it is made in my home state is just icing on the cake. I'm not paid for these comments, and I purchased my product at full retail without having previously heard of Steel Lighting Co. I simply want to give them all the credit that they deserve. Pro tips for a pleasant install: 1. The big nut that holds the bulb socket to the shade (and has the o-ring groove in it) is LEFT-HAND THREAD. There is zero advantage to this choice, but it is what it is. Don't be that guy who returns the light because it won't thread together. You'll remember this comment when your package arrives, and you dig right in without opening the instructions. Because, come on! Who needs instructions? LEFT-HAND thread! 2. Use a bit of wire lube to pull the wires easily through the arched tube. Same stuff that is used to pull wires through conduit. (extra credit for trimming the wires to length after you pull them through. I see several commenters complaining that the wires are too long ???). 3. I used teflon tape on the threads just to ensure that it won't all rust together at some point. I just really like smooth threads too. So I basically treated this like any other plumbing project. 4. The odd little screw in the bag is the lock screw to affix the arched tube into the baseplate in the correct orientation. You'll find the counter-sunk hole for it in the baseplate. It wasn't mentioned in my instructions, but was pretty obvious. 5. Behold the glory that is your new lamp.

I bought this light to replace an old fixture on our back porch after replacing siding. It is perfect! The right size, color, shape, quality! It’s not too heavy, but extremely sturdy. Also, this seller was very helpful and responsive. There was an issue with the dawn to dusk feature not fitting in my existing box. When I contacted them, they immediately sent out a different part and refunded the difference. Stellar seller!

Quality of the material is what should be for a light of this nature in the Adirondacks of the north east,,, I built a new barn,,,,put 3 of them up. They are beautiful.,,,, Very easy to put together the only drawback was it takes three hands to mount them while on a ladder,,, the reason being they’re not lightweight due to the quality of material,,, not cheap, but you get what you pay for

Clearly a very high quality light, with sturdy parts that fit together very well. My only issue is that from every picture that customers see of the light you can't tell that the metal (not painted black) socket will be showing at the top - as well as a very thin orange gasket. Assuming you will only be looking up at the light, these are non-issues. However, from our specific installation they will be. A photo from an above angle might have made this clear.

I bought this primarily because it was “made in America “. I figured that meant it would be better quality and I wasn’t disappointed Very well made. That being said there were some things that were troubling. Attaching the socket to the shade with the cover it was very awkward. The orange gasket doesn’t fit well into the groove so it is impossible to set it in firmly per the instructions. I could have used an additional hand. I also found it impossible to pull all the wires through the arm at the same time. I pulled the wires individually...no big deal. My house was built in the 50’s so the power was two wires through a 1/2” hole so I needed to buy a weather proof 4” round box again no big deal. Attaching the fixture to the base was a challenge. The bolts included were the wrong size and type. Luckily I had screws to choose from which saved me from another trip to HD. I assume that a manufacturer of electrical fixtures knows what is required to affix their product to a weather proof box!? Last. I hit the switch...no light. It turns out as I was using a LED light it wouldn’t work. I bought a incandescent bulb and it worked!! Hooray. In this day and age WHY would someone manufacture a light that uses an outdated bulb. Finally I tried to call as suggested at the end of the instructions but the number included was not in service. Made in America should mean more then quality it should also mean accessibility! As a follow up it’s been up for several months. Recently read a how to as I felt that I hadn’t been able to use an LED bulb. I read that often the neck of the LED bulb is shorter and doesn’t come in contact with the socket. I bent the contact in the socket and it worked. Boy did I feel stupid. Light still looks great and now I can use An LED bulb
