    • Overly thick casting, and the chip breaker sits about 1/4"from the the edge of the iron.
It looks like a Spokeshave, and the blade is hardened steel. If you have the time and energy to fettle the hell out of this heavy chinese pile, then it'll work.. I ended up going on eBay and getting a real Stanley no.51 (51 doesn't have the adjustment screws ) from the early 1900's for a few dollars less. Soapy water scrub, sharpen the iron, and a coat of wax. It'll last another hundred years. I would not recommend this turd. ... show more

Nicely made but it comes un-sharpened! Can’t use it unless you have the ability to sharpen the blade. Useless tool out of the box.

    • Easy to adjust
I like this a lot. It's very easy to make small adjustments so you can shave off a small amount of wood at a time. It was plenty sharp out of the box and I've been using it on hickory and it's held it's edge well so far.
