Features

  • JAPANESE MANUAL WOOD PLANE "KANNA": This is a traditional Japanese woodworking plane, perfect for smoothing wood surfaces and chamfering edges. Unlike Western planes, Japanese planes are pulled towards you, allowing for more consistent, controlled cuts with less effort. They require fine-tuning of the blade with a hammer before use. KAKURI's plane is trusted by both beginners and professional woodworkers.
  • COMPACT & EAST-TO-USE: Compact and lightweight, this mini plane is ideal for detailed work and intricate tasks. Its size allows easy handling, even for those new to woodworking and DIY. An English instruction manual is included, so even first-time users can enjoy an authentic Japanese woodworking tool with ease.
  • RAZOR-SHARP BLADE: This plane features Japanese steel, laminated with soft iron and hand-sharpened by skilled craftsmen. It delivers an incredibly smooth finish on wood and is ready to use right out of the box. The soft iron lamination increases blade durability and makes sharpening easier, ensuring long-lasting performance. With a two-blade structure that includes a chipbreaker, it minimizes wood splitting compared to single-blade planes, offering a safer, more reliable planing experience.
  • DURABLE WOOD BODY: The body is made from natural Japanese white oak, known for its durability and ability to provide a smooth planing experience.

  • Very nice.
Size: Japanese Wood Plane 42 mm
This thing is killer. I use it to shave down small chunks of wood to a size where I can widdle it into a chop stick. This thing shaves all kinds of woods very easily. Including pieces of skateboards. I will cut skateboards up and this thing took layers off no issue. The only problem I have with it is adjusting the blade. I haven’t figured out that technique yet but that’s probably user error. ... show more

  • Smooth
Size: Japanese Wood Plane 42 mm
I may throw out all my sandpaper, well maybe not my drum sander paper. Still need it for dirty wood before running thru planer. Have done two small pieces and no sanding required. Have never had this smooth a finish with sandpaper. Only comparison I can make is to using scrapers. As razor sharp as I can get my antique Stanly and Baily plane blades, I have never got this smooth. Of course they were made for rough fast wood removal. Have an old European style wood plane that I have worked on and made good again that does a smooth job, but nowhere near what this does. May try the Chinese style plane also. Have watched a few you tube vids of them making stuff with all hand tools and never touch sandpaper to anything. just apply finish and done. ... show more

  • I’m beginning to forget my other smoothing planes.
Size: 60 mm
Absolutely beautiful plane. Didn’t have to sharpen, and was ready to use, right out of packaging. Just need to properly adjust depth, and it’s ready to go. I’ll sharpen after a few days of use, so I can see the difference in what it truly is capable of. As usual of Kakuri products, build quality is excellent! ... show more

  • Unusable out of packaging
Size: 50 mm
When I got this, the wedge was inserted so far (and digging into the body a little on one side) that the bar was bending out slightly. It took 5 minutes of tapping it side to side with a hammer and punch to get it out. Even with the wedge completely removed, the blade (which is slightly tapered) was such a tight fit that it stopped maybe 1/4" short of the bottom. I thought the plane was defective, so I exchanged it for a new one but the replacement was the same. I had to remove a fair bit of wood from the top of the slot before I could even insert the blade all the way. After that, the plane works nicely. The mouth is relatively small, which you want for fine work. I bought this to use as a scrub plane though. I chiseled the mouth open a bit and sharpened the blade with a big sweeping camber (~3" radius.) It works great! The blade is very, very thick compared to the blade on vintage western planes and it keeps its edge really nicely, even making deep cross grain cuts. Overall, this was probably better than converting a vintage plane or a new budget plane with a blade that's thinner and possibly softer. But I was disappointed by how much work it took before I could even take a single shaving with a brand new plane. This would have been unusable for a someone just getting started in woodworking. ... show more
