I was most pleasantly surprised by this, the plane manages to have good heft and not feel anything like the other planes in this category (most would better be in the toys category, but not this one.     • Very small, very nice detail plane
The base is made of very hard wood that was flat. The mouth on mine didn't need any work. The iron needed sharpening, and that's hard to do something this small; it's less than 2 inches long. After that, it worked great. It holds its edge well. Once set, the blade holds its position, although it's easy to get a finger on top of the iron as you're working. This mini-plane is great. It's small, works great. BUT, you can search Amazon for "mini hand planes 5 pcs set" and get this EXACT plane, plus four others, for just a bit more than twice the price. Same plane, markings are the same, function is the same, and you end up with other irons (blades) that will allow you to sharpen all the irons and switch them in when this one gets dull. So, great little plane, wish someone had told me I could spend $44 and get it and 4 others instead of just spending $18 for one. I'm giving 3 stars just because it feels a bit scammy to have this exact plane in a set of five, but also be selling this plane as a standalone for this much money. ... show more

    • Great for soft woods and small parts
It works great for balsa wood, basswood and pine. It is very small. Good for small parts. I use it for RC airplanes. Hard woods or any "around the house" carpenter project: this planer is probably useless.

saw this used in a youtube video and taught I'd try it, well it works great. you can even up the edge's when you have several layers with this tool seems to be a quality tool so far

    • Tiny hand plane that is well made.
I was skeptical when I saw how small this plane was, but it is well made and after sharpening it worked beautifully!. I am using it for "tuning up" miter joints on smaller picture frames. Great plane for very little money.
