I bought a few different kinds of bed rails, and this was the heaviest and most sturdy. I like that it's a longer length than most, and feels very secure. Had decent height on a pillowtop mattress and could be removed and replaced easily.

Since the bed rail requires maneuvering the mattress it can be a little tricky to setup. The installation of the strap takes a little forethought but once installed works fine. The strap does not get wrapped around the box spring, which another reviewer said, but does get tied to the bed frame opposite the bed rail. (Wrapping the strap around the box spring of a twin might be possible but not really necessary since you still should anchor it to the frame.) In positioning the rail I'd suggest, after you get the actual rail together, drop the rail mechanism down (pull pins) and then insert the arms under the mattress. Then tie the strap to the bed frame on the opposite side-per the instructions. The cardboard box, that the bed rail came in, was partially wet and coming apart when I got it - I thought it was going to be damaged or missing parts-which wasn't the case. In addition to preventing you from rolling out of bed the bed rail helps in pulling yourself up to get out of bed. Finally, hopefully this will prevent me from falling out of bed from REM sleep disorder. ... show more

Using on an electric bed which had been lowered a little bit for 93y to be able to get in and out of bed. Rail did not fold flat for that reason but I had a handyman look at it and he showed me how to push it back flat and it works perfectly. Forcing it back flat against the bed when folded down raises up the mattress a tiny bit - Mom's not in the bed when it's folded back flat so that's fine. Once she is in bed, I lift the rail, lock it in place, and she is safe all night. Huge relief. In the morning, I lower the rail and help Mom out of bed with it pushed back flat.
