First, let me say that I have been using roof racks for 20+ years on a half dozen different cars of varying types, this was the worst junk I've handled. First, it arrived all taped up and it was obviously returned by someone else and I can see why. Despite it being rated for my vehicle, the product simply didn't fit. I spent an hour installing and reinstalling it at different angles and positions trying to find one that was sturdy. Every time it was loose and the few times I got it to feel sturdy, pushing with my finger on the attachment point would cause the clamp that goes down into the door frame to pop right out. Even the sturdiest position I could find I'm pretty sure it wouldn't make it 10 miles down the road before the clamps failed and everything wend flying damaging my car and likely incurring a lawsuit by anyone following me. Beyond the questionable engineering, the foot pads are total junk. They are smooshy soft rubber pads that sit under the metal but they are free-floating only attached with little rubber nubbins that kinda pop into holes, as soon as you tighten down the rack the rubber smooshes like silicone and the nubbins get pulled out. Even if the clamp held, this smooshy rubber foot pad adds to the rack shifting around, the pad should be attached to the metal permanently, not this cheap add on silicone-like cap that just adds to making the rack less sturdy. Over all, the rack is just junk, maybe they fit other cars better, but I wouldn't trust it on any car, spend a little more, go with a real Thule or some other solid product, this bargain basement garbage will hurt you in the long run.

I like this roof rack a lot, however, I'm going to give it only 3 stars for a couple of reasons. I've installed it on my 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS Packaging. The rack was shipped in its own box, which ended up taking a beating with multiple holes and rips. The other problem I have is that the Rack seems to have been used. I base this on the damaged packaging and minor dents and damage where the rack is bolted down around the numbers/measurements. The Rack The rack itself is pretty sold feeling. There is a coating across the bars themselves and the 'hooks' have a rubber coating that does not scrape your paint. Unfortunately, the foot of the rack has a fairly week rubber pad that is held in place by 6 small plugs that fit through holes in the foot base. When you tighten down the feet, it squishes the rubber so it bulges out. I'm hoping it doesn't squish so much that it wears away and damages my roof. Another issue I have is that the feet/towers do not rotate or swivel or adjust in any way/ My roof line is not straight, but is an actual shallow hour glass. So the foot in the front both are at weird angles compared with the roof line. Doesn't seem to effect the grip on the car, which seems to be solid. The Manual Sucks. The only reason I looked at it was to get a general idea. My car wasn't even listed so I used the measurements for the Subaru Imprezza, I similar style car,. For the 08-15 Lancer, I would suggest 21 in back and 23 in front. But obviously you can use what works best. I test drove the rack after installation and found it to be incredibly solid.No rattles or shaking. I went back and mounted my 18 Specialized Sirrus on the CyclingDea "1 Bike Bicycle Car Roof Carrier Fork Mount Rack". Again, no rattling or shaking, it all felt very solid. The next day, my daughter and I set out to ride around the Golden Gate Bridge. I mounted my Sirrus and her old, heavy 04 Gary Fisher Tassajara and drove slowly and steadily. Didn't have an issue. I did hear a weird rattle and stopped and checked all bolts and screws and everything seemed ok. So I continued and didn't have a problem. Bottom line, if you don't want to spend $300+ on a roof rack, this is a solid buy. I definitely recommend but only if the buy goes in knowing that there are some quirks to the system. I do wish SportRack offered a fork mount bike rack that was custom to this roof rack. **Update** It's been two weeks since I've installed it and I've used it three times. Twice to go riding with my daughter to Golden Gate Bridge. Both times I had no issue getting our bikes onto the rack and secured. (My bike is a 2018 Specialized Sirrus and her's is an 04 Gary Fisher Tassajara). Both times, before and after the trip, I checked the wing nuts and the tightness of the rack itself and am satisfied that this rack is being held securely to my car. The third trip was with a single bike (Trek 7100 Hybrid) from San Francisco to Sacramento. Not once during the trip did I feel like the bike was in any danger. One thing I did notice, especially since I have a moon roof, there is a lot more wind noise. Not sure if that can be reduced with a fairing or not. I did, however, have an incident with the rack and it was totally my fault. Last weekend I took my car to the dealer for service and since BART is near, I decided to bring my bike and ride from dealer to BART station and from there home. Before and after setting out, I told myself over and over to remember the bike on top. And guess what I did? Forgot the bike on top. I slowly entered the garage and scraped the bottom of the roll up door. Fortunately, the Bike had minimal damage to the seat only, my car, the rollup door, and the rack were undamaged. The bike rack rail however was bent down. And this is fortunate because of the way I installed it. If you can see from the side view of my car, the back of the car rack hangs over the rear cross bar of the SportRack. So when the seat of my bike scraped under the door, it pushed down, causing the rack to bend down. I believe that if I had this bike rack more centered on the SportRack Cross bars, this would have damaged the rack itself, my car, and most definitely my bike. Fortunately, the dealer were extremely cool about the incident and even offered to try to bend the bike rack back into place. (they tried, still bent a bit, but oh well, they are cheap-$39 here on Amazon). Bottom line, I need to find some sort of warning sticker to place on the top of the windshield reminding me to look up and be careful! Through it all, the rack remained solidly connected to my car so I've added a star for build quality and durability. Definitely recommend this rack.

Updated June 17, 2018. This is a versatile rack fitting many vehicles. Check the fit guide to see which model fits your car. Bought a 2018 Impala and SR1010 fits this car too! Looking forward to another year on the water. Bought my Sportrack SR1010 in May 2017 and have used it a dozen times on my Impala and Elantra. Love how it can easily adjust for different vehicles. Made of quality parts and fasteners. I simply cut thick swim noodles for the kayaks to nestle into and they ride great on the bars. Most reccomendations say to mount the yaks flat when possible and this rack is plenty wide enough for my 27.25" yaks. I would strongly recommend this item. Dont know why folks are complaining about installing - my daughter uses it on her Elantra with no problems and loads it herself when I'm not around. Of course you will have a slight gap where the bracket contacts the door frame, no way to avoid and is not an issue. Notice the listed manufacturer is Thule. Great solution, quality and a reasonable price.

Pros: "Economy" line of racks made by Thule Very affordable Will most likely suit the needs of the weekend warrior, if you are a avid outdoors person buy a better rack Seems sturdy enough to last, eventually I will buy a better rack Has lots of rubber padding and coating to protect cars finish, "Make sure you wash and wax prior to installation to ensure no scratching!!!" With a little messing around fits and holds on Cons: Crossbars came dented from where the factory over tightened them, they easily dent in without much force from tightening Didn't include sizing chart for my car even though it is listed as the rack I need, so I had to find it online, maybe outdated size guide/older model of this rack? Leaks like a S.O.B. in the rain, came out after a rain storm and my driver side seats in my brand new car were absolutely drenched... Hardware feels slightly cheap, not sure how many seasons it will last having to put it on and take it off. If there was a "3.5 Stars" option I would rate it that. Overall this is a decent rack for someone who just needs a rack to haul their bike or kayak to and from somewhere on the weekends. It is the first roof rack I have ever purchased and while I have it finally fitting on my roof and not leaking it took forever to do with ALOT of cussing and micro adjustments. There is no way I was paying someone professionally to install this rack, it is just not worth it. Right now the rack is sitting on there good though, I need to even out the bars a little so it is more visually appealing, looks like I will have to mess around with it this weekend....again. Chances are you will have to find the measurements and fit guide online if you have a newer car. The distance between the posts is most likely going to be good, but take the bar measurements with a grain of salt. As I said I got it installed and it leaked...and leaked...and leaked...get the point? The part which clips on to the door frame is holding the weather stripping open on the driver side, just allowing water to pour in. I blame the design of the support post for that, I tried every thing I could think of and had a friend help who has a similar rack on his car and he too was stumped as to why it was leaking. If I get it sitting more evenly and it is still leaking I am taking a hammer to it to try and correct the problem! I am probably going to end up taking it off and putting the rack and the bike carriers I purchased with the rack on Craigslist for $100 and if someone offer me $75 I might take it...Already just ready to get rid of it and buy a better quality one which I will know will fit and won't leak. Not even owned it for three weeks... I wasn't expecting much when I purchased this and to say it barely met my expectations would be accurate. I guess you get what you pay for, but I was expecting a little bit better build from this company since it is owned by Thule...

This is a review of the SR1010 model. Bought this rack presumably as a new, repackaged item for a bargain $73 and some change. It sat in the garage unopened for a year. Well, just opened the box today - no instructions, no packaging, pre-assembled, showing light indentations on the crossbars indicative of someone’s previous failed attempt at installation and subsequent product return. Whatever, what’s a few scuffs between us girls, right? Well... fast forward two frustrating, futile hours with my spouse trying to install this stupid thing onto my 2013 Ford Focus hatchback with a bare roof. Tried spacing the feet at 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 tick marks on the cross bars to no avail. The crossbars dented every time we tightened the crossbar adjustment screw at each tick mark. All the hardware and brackets seem to be made from steel, though there is absolutely no way on Earth that’s the case for the crossbars - they’re most likely aluminum or some other soft metal or alloy. Tightened the foot screws nearly to the point of denting the roof at each tick mark. Invariably, with a firm jerk in just the right way, the darn rack would just pop right off the roof. It says the weight capacity of this rack is 130 lbs. I can just picture my two 65lb kayaks, still attached to this rack, flying off on the freeway at 70mph towards some hapless car behind me... At some point in our installation attempt, out of sheer desperation, we went to the manufacturer’s website hoping for some sort of installation video or instructions. Verified through their vehicle compatibility filter that this rack does fit my car (I remember checking this when I bought it in the first place, but doesn’t hurt to double-check one’s sanity from time to time). Downloaded their installation manual... Guess which car is NOT listed as compatible in the installation manual for this model? MINE!!! Crossbar spacing and positioning is provided for Fiesta, Edge, Fusion, and Taurus, but NOT the f’ing Focus! What in the actual hell kind of bait and switch is this?! So, no rooftop cargo for us on the upcoming trip this weekend. There goes that. And, of course, after a year, it’s now far too late to return this darn thing to Amazon or otherwise. I guess we’ll have to think of some alternative use for this POS somewhere down the road. Also, like others have mentioned - security is nonexistent. There are two sets of adjustment screws in place for each crossbar assembly: one at the crossbar itself, and one at the base of the foot clamp. The locks go over the screws at the base of the foot only. However, as we observed over and over tonight, if just ONE of the crossbar screws is loosened a little bit to allow for movement, the ENTIRE crossbar assembly, with the locked feet, comes right off the roof.

My car size wasn't in the instructions nor could I find them online so I had to choose the car most similar to mine and play around with it a bit. Word of advice, lock the bar to the clips before tightening to your actual car. We didn't do that the first time around and the bar wasn't stay in in place, flat to the car. Overall they work well and I have had no problems with this product. I bought the sport rack j-racks along with this item and they work and fit perfectly. I'm glad I bought the j-racks as they are much easier to place the kayak on especially when there's only one person loading them.

Update. Went from three stars to 2. The suggested position to set this up from the manufacturer is flawed. They say to set the rear bars at 19". They need to be closer to 18" The feet slowly worked their way out until one side popped off on the freeway. Now there is a dent over my rear drivers side door. Besides that. When I wen yo adjust the feet to the correct position I found it very hard to do so. The plastic on the cross bars is cheap and gets all bent up. So when you try to make adjustment they just keep trying to go back to the notches made in the plastic from the original adjustments. I should have spent the extra money on a better rack. My car is actually damaged now. Will cost several hundred to repair. bought for 2011 Mazda6. Sport rack Sr1010. This rack looks nice and appears to be of decent quality. Those are the pros. The cons. Fitment first and foremost. I'm pretty handy. But this was a headache to install. Not as simple as throw it on and tighten it down. I adjusted the cross bars to the correct number and loosened the clamps as directed. Then I placed the rack where the fitment chart suggested. As far as I can tell, this is all correct. This is where the problems start. Once you start to tighten things down, you'll find that the clamps start to pull away from their proper position. As you tighten you'll have to go back and forth with a rubber mallet and tap the clamps back into place. Back and forth and back and forth. Once everything is tight and in place you still aren't done. After you put a load on you will have to retighten everything. Going back and forth tapping and tightening. If you overtighten you will end up pulling the clamps out and apart. Undertighten and they will wiggle loose while driving.
