  • great value and espresso
I think this espresso maker offers great value for money. Their fantastic support was able to help recommend a flat-basket portafilter that helped me in some cases, but really helped me to figure out what I was doing wrong. It is easy to use and makes great steamed milk too. I find the water easy to pull off and fill, and being transparent makes it easy to gauge I have enough. Now for some more nuanced details that helped me. 1. I use a 51mm paper underneath the grounds to absorb the cafestrol and help distribution, this works better for me than a puck screen. 2. The crema and flavor is good, but I found I had to super fill the basket to get the right ratio, not leaving enough space for the puck screen and getting a screw mark at the top of my puck. Basically always fill right up to the line on the basket rather than trying to get the right mass of beans. For a 7g single, it was a little iffy with 1g precision (you can go under/over than add/remove a little bit to get a rough sense of if its closer to 7.1 or 7.9 etc, so upgrading scale may help. This is more around the scale than anything wrong with the machine. 3. I ordered a flat portafilter, but this came with more problems as the non-pressurized portafilter/basket resulted in watery drip-coffee consistency with almost no crema regardless of beans or quantity. I then found some pre-ground espresso powder at the store, which worked great with the non-pressurized basket! My 18-sizes of cuisinart grinder were all too coarse to work in the non-pressurized basket! I have a feeling a finer grind with the pressurized portafilter that came with this machine would leave me with more space near the top, but that seems to work well with what comes out of my grinder already. If you are not sure about your grind size, try a cheap vacuum sealed pre-ground espresso brick from a local german grocery chain to test it out. I'm glad I got this machine, it works great and is also helpful for making my child hot chocolate. It is also not too big which I appreciate. Future machines - maybe some more control over the water quantity Quirks - I have to pull the cup from the americano setting part way, it seems to want to put a lot of water in there, not a big deal because I never drink americanos. I had already ordered a tamp before receiving this item, but consider the included one appropriate for the price point. ... show more

  • Awful
I'm not leaving any stars for this one. The steamer worked on the first use and not again. My dad always used to tell me that you get what you pay for and in this case, that could not be more true. Save up and purchase a better quality than this one!

  • I like this a lot makes very smooth costco americanos for me every day.. tastes great!
Hi I have owned this about a month, I use it for 2-3 cups a day... I grind my beans finely and use the plastic scooper/tamper to fill up the cup and turn it on. Takes about 2-3 min. to make about 6-7 oz of Americano style so in-between what I was accustom to which is a big mr coffee mug and my 5 oz Moka machine. I actually own a mr coffee and peculator too. It's pretty amazing how different each makes the same beans taste. As an americano it has a decent crema foam not beautiful like the store but it's good. it's simple and quick and no fuss. The only minor issue is it uses a lot of filtered water to make a cup probably 2-3 cups of water. It has a large reservoir but it did throw me off you can steam/froth milk but I don't do that... I don't know how it will be in 3 years but at least now for 100 (with coupons) before tariffs it is really nice. Starbucks is probably 8.00 for the same thing... I've had 4 coffee beans in this and the costco breakfast is pretty smooth, I am trying french roast today and yesterday definitely stronger/bitterer but it does make a smooth cup I am using less beans than my mr coffee by 3/1. I'm pretty amped up so it's strong. not too big I use a standard coffee mug fits under no problem plus you can remove the bottom ledge for a large cup. BTW I read the 1 star review and I will agree the bean holder is wet when you remove it... Not sure what that means since the coffee tastes good and you don't have grinds in your teeth.. Also, the crema it does last a while and since I'm not an expert. Last thing vs the moka machine having some crema is a nice add on and 100% this has virtually no grinds while the moka does have a little... its not a big deal to me... I know this vietnamese bakery I go to 100% makes a better cup with their 15k espresso maker but it's the money... ... show more

  • Great machine!
I have had this machine about a month now. I have only been brewing espresso up to this point. It has taken me that long to get a good cup of espresso. The machine works great, I'm the problem. You will need to find the right coffee and the right strength for you, that is what I have been doing. If you are like me and are only brewing a single or double shot, the water reservoir lasts a long time. This machine is very compact but is very powerful. It's very fast at heating water. When I turn it on, the machine is ready to brew before I get my cup and have my beans ground. The gauge reads at the same pressure for every shot and I get the same flavor in every cup. The steamer works well but my wife has a frother so I tend to use that. All in all I am very satisfied with this machine and the coffee I get every morning. Now for what I don't like. The tamper is plain garbage. You will not be able to tamp your coffee with this thing. There's no way to get a level tamp or enough pressure with a piece of thin plastic. I bought a tamper from Amazon and it works great. The porta-filter does a great job of brewing but when I tap the use grounds into the garbage, with the old tamper, the filter cup falls out every time. At some point I will replace that. The first machine I was sent had been a return item. It was missing some of the packaging, which cause some dents. I was sent a second one very promptly and that's the one I'm using. I don't consider this a sign of the product so I'm not deducting for that. I would defiantly recommend this espresso maker. At the current price at under $100 with the coupon, it's a bargain. It also leave enough money to buy a few accessories like a tamper. Enjoy. ... show more
