This is an excellent machine, not even considering that it is under $1K, it stands up to almost any machine as far as quality of espresso produced. This machine comes with an excellent start up guide which can be a little confusing to understand at first because it was written by Italians, lol. Hang in there!! After figuring out your dosing, grind, and temp settings, you will be enjoying FANTASTIC espresso in no time at all. Do keep in mind that when changing the grind settings, you have to change it WHILE THE GRINDER IS IN OPERATION. Failing to do this may damage the grinder. Frothing wand and hot water features work great as well, although just a little longer wait than I expected for these to achieve their goals. This is a horrible machine. And horrible customer service. It is super inconsistent on pressure. Most of the time you barely get any pressure. Sometimes the grinder doesn't respond. It sometimes takes multiple clean cycles to reset. Called De Longhi multiple times to help fix mainly the pressure issue, and they were of no help. I would not recommend this machine. I have been wanting an espresso maker for a long time. I read up on this one and it sounded good. It heats up FAST, so you can make multiple drinks one after another. I love that the coffee bean grinder is part of the machine, and it has a tamper built in. Coffee is great! I have been fixing lattes almost every morning in no time! Only bad thing is it’s too tall to fit on my counter; I have to keep it in the pantry! I cannot recommend this machine too highly. ... show more

Broke within a year. Horrible customer service by the company and Amazon. Was told I bought it from an un-authorized dealer so out of warranty. Machine leaking water. Company will not help to fix it unless I pay more money and Amazon has not been helpful either. Said it is past the refund period and that is all. We got this as a gift for each other for Christmas. We LOVE it. The ONLY negative thing is it is not QUITE as simple as grind, tamp, brew. This is not your mom & dads Coffee maker (well... unless you are my kids). Make sure you set everything just right, and anything less than top shelf coffee beans will not work well, not all espresso is the same, we learned this the hard way when we decided to use up some of the "old' beans we had in the cabinet. (we thought we broke it. wouldn't brew right). However, Once you get used to it, you'll be making perfect espresso & coffee drinks every time. ... show more

This Espresso Machine was great - while it worked. Unfortunately, after only 11 months (a coffee a day for my wife and me - 2 coffees total per day) the grinder stopped working. Customer service on the phone was ok - walked me through 'try this/try that', and they decided they needed to take it in for service. Instruction was to wait to hear from the repair facility for a shipping label and instructions. After several email messages and phone calls to them, AFTER A WEEK AND A HALF, I received an email saying I should hear from their repair facility after another 5-7 business days - ANOTHER WEEK AND A HALF! I had been going to Starbucks every morning for 8 days to get coffee by this time, and I had to ask myself why I bought an expensive ($900) espresso machine. And, how could I buy any product hoping nothing would ever go wrong with it? Or more specifically why did I buy a DeLonghi. Good product, but zero reliability from their service. If the product works, it works well. If something goes wrong (which is when you have to rely on them) you cannot depend on them. So we purchased this product two months ago and it was great. Considering never having experience with espresso machines, it was relatively user friendly and easy to use. More experienced people complain about the grinds not being fine enough, but for us it was fine. However after about a month and a half of good use, the grinder broke and would not grind anymore. The customer service was hard to get a hold of, due to the long wait on the phone, and after sending it back in for repairs, there has been no follow up to let us know the status. It has been over two weeks since the mail in (It has been at the repair shop for over a week, verified by tracking), and we are still awaiting for an update. The best thing about the machine is the fact it is user friendly and due to the tamping station, it is relatively a clean operation. Obviously the bad is customer service. Machines break, and sometimes that is uncontrollable. Although every effort is made to make a good product, sometimes unexpected things happen, and even though most are good there is a bad egg amongst the many good products. But the important thing is, how to resolve the problem. Customer service should always keep customer informed and do what they can to ease the customer’s mind. Especially like a well established company like Delonghi, you would expect good follow through, even after the sale of their product.
