  • Fantastic heater, but watch the price because it keeps changing!
When it comes to appliances like space heaters, I tend to avoid no-name brands (especially when they don’t appear to be certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory), but took a chance on this heater because I liked its features. (Of course, I would never leave any space heater running unattended, regardless of certification.) I received the heater today so I can’t speak to its longevity, but after putting it through its paces, I’m pretty impressed with its features and functionality. GOOD DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY: The heater is lightweight, but doesn’t feel cheap; it’s very easy to carry from room to room with the carry handle recessed into the back. The heater’s size and shape are fantastic: it doesn’t take up much floor space and the controls are easily accessible on the top of the unit (or you can use the remote control). The base is not as large/stable as some Dreo models (see photo), but it feels stable even on carpet (absent rambunctious kids or pets knocking into it, of course). MANUAL/AUTOMATIC OPERATING MODES: There are manual 3 modes (fan only, low heat and high heat) AND an automatic “ECO” mode (you set the temperature and the heater automatically changes mode based on the room temperature vs. the temperature you set). I played around with the ECO mode and was surprised how smoothly the unit switched back and forth from fan to low heat to high heat as needed. As expected, the instruction booklet is only so-so, but it’s not hard to figure out how to operate all the functions. SMOOTH OSCILLATION: The oscillating function works smoothly and distributes heat much more effectively than my non-oscillating space heater. QUIET FAN: I am very impressed with how quiet the fan is. It sounds about the same as my Dreo tower fan on low/medium. Note: The fan speed (and, therefore, the fan volume) is the same regardless of whether you select fan only, low heat or high heat; only the temperature of the heating element changes from one mode to another. ALWAYS-ON DISPLAY: When the heater is plugged in, the ambient temperature is always displayed on the front panel (see photo), even when the unit is turned off. I can’t find a way to turn off the temperature display either on the unit or using the remote. Personally, I find it convenient, but if you used to be annoyed by the always-on clock on your DVD/VHS player, this heater probably isn’t for you unless you’re willing to hinge-tape a piece of cardboard over the front display. SAFETY SHUT-OFF: The automatic safety shut-off works well. There is no plunger on the bottom (maybe that’s old tech?), but if the unit tilts about 30 degrees in any direction, it immediately goes into shut-down mode (instantly turns off if the unit was in fan-only mode; 30-second cool-down fan begins if the unit was in low/high heat mode). REMOTE: All functions can be controlled with the remote. Unfortunately, there is no holder for the remote on the main unit, but the top and sides of the unit stay cool even when the heater is on, so I’ll probably just stick the remote to the side with a piece of Velcro. The remote takes two AAA batteries (which are not included). COVERAGE: Even on high heat, I doubt this heater would make much impact in the 300 sq. ft. maximum coverage area listed on the product page, but it works great in a smaller TV room, office or bedroom. FLAME EFFECTS: I figured the “flame effects” would be pretty hokey, and they really are, but they’re also kind of kitschy. To me, the red glow looks more like a lava-covered brain than any “flame effect” I’ve ever seen, but one button turns the volcanic brain on and off, so if you’re not in a kitschy mood, you can instantly change it to sleek, solid black. VALUE: In the few days since I ordered this heater, the “regular” price and the post-coupon price have gone up and down multiple times. Currently, the post-coupon price is $45.59. Assuming the unit continues to work properly, I think it is a good value if you can get it for under $50. 5 stars. ... show more

  • Solid value for a well built tower heater
For the money, it's a solid heater. The fireplace effect thing is a gimmick, but the heater itself definitely isn't. It's been great for my room in the colder months which doesn't get a lot of airflow from my central heater. Pros + Heats up a small to moderate sized room very quickly. It tops out at 1500w like any other heater due to wall outlet limitations, but it has a good sized heater element and distributes heat a little bit more effectively than a smaller unit. + Feels like a pretty decently quality unit, as well built as any other name brand appliance. Cable is thick and seems up to the task of carrying 1500w, and nothing about the heater seems like a safety hazard. I thought for a moment it didn't have tip-over protection as there's no plunger on the base, but it instead has an internal tilt sensor that will shut off the heater if it falls over. + Good set of features. Oscillation and auto off timer are nice to have, the thermostat is fully digital and works well. It's a nice upgrade over a typical knob controlled fully analog heater where you don't really know what temperature you're setting it to. + Controller works well too. While it isn't RF, it seems to have a good range of functional angles - you don't have to point the remote at it dead on. Cons - LED display is very bright and never turns off as long as the heater is still plugged in. I found it very obnoxious when it was in my room at night. - Would have been nice if the fan turned off when the target temp is reached, but it doesn't. Heating element turns off, fan runs forever as long as the tower is on. - Fake "fireplace effect" thing at the bottom of the tower adds nothing. It doesn't even flicker to simulate coals or a flame. ... show more

  • Great little heater!
This showed up yesterday and I immediately put it to use. It's starting to get colder here in CT and I just got back from AZ. This felt like a good time to use it. I had the wife put it where she wanted it and she plugged it in and started it... it looks great not very loud and you could feel the heat almost immediately. Once it started getting the room warm l, it seemed to have tripped something. We'll, the wife had it plugged into a power strip (don't ever plug a heater into a power strip). I reset it and moved it over to the dining room, plugged it into the wall, turned it up a little more and she was good to go. Didn't trip the circuit, didn't get to warm at the plug and ran the rest of the night just fine. It heated up both rooms efficiently and we were all comfortable. Great little heater that works for a decent sized area. ... show more
