  • XXL printer that works out of the box
Color: SV08 Max Dark Silver
I got this for $1099 from amazon. Initially it threw an error about MCU, it turned out that I connecting the wiring hardness for the filament assist unit incorrectly. The mainboard fan is indeed loud, however a Noctua 4010 24V fan made the problem go away. This was the only upgrade I did. The only other thing I had to fix is the cable chain not staying in place, the blue connector popped out of the socket during one print. I applied double sided VHB tape to the underside of the cable chain to address the issue. Also a note, out of the box I had to adjust the XY belt tension as it was too loose. Touch screen is top notch, UI is not as fancy as Bambu lab or even Elegoo CC but definitely functional, plus there is a web interface that can be used on computer and phone. Latest version of orca slicer has built in support for this printer and avoids the need to install the sovol’s orca variant. The profiles in orca for this printer is very usable. Eddy sensor worked great out of the box. Full bed first layer test was perfect. I have about 300 hours on this printer so far and no other issues yet. Compared to SV08 this printer is significantly better. I am currently 2 days into a 5 day 5kg print, so far so good. Future upgrade planned - camera: currently out of stock - more nozzles: i think this used hardened steel mk8 nozzle, will probably get some on ali - enclosure: $40 shipping on sovol site is a deal breaker, waiting for amazon to carry it ... show more

If this is what you're looking for you've came to the right place. There's a fix online but Sovol engineers aren't smart enough to find it evidently. Noisy but not horrible. Would advise keeping an eye on the stepper motors because these run HOT. Haven't had leveling issues yet. Will say this printer is sturdier than the competitor I sent back. My biggest concern is the designers and sellers think their customers are idiots and I'm starting to feel like one. Hopefully that'll change. I plan on giving it a decent chance which is more than Sovol gave it. ... show more

  • Finally a very well built machine!
Color: SV08 Max Dark Silver
Amazed at the quality not just of the machine but of the prints as well, not just the benchy that printed at better quality in half the time of a k1max but things I designed printed like a champ and not easy flat stuff either. Even assembly was pleasant. They have the bolts for every step in a bag in order with nice hand tools not just easy stripped allen wrenches. This is my fifth printer and by far the most well built machine. And ofcourse its open source full mainline klipper, no ecosystem trap. If you want a printer that forces you to learn ssh protocals and linux, how to replace motherboards and change thermistors three times a day rather than print then you should buy from other companies that will absolutely do less than the least they can do to give you the most well polished turd that constantly needs something done to it. Sovol has gone above and beyond, guide rails, not dinky rubber wheel guides, real sturdy aluminum frame with added rigid corner braces, The z axis has four motors! A big thick beautiful bed that just stays on the bottom and leveling consist of a super fast eddy scan that takes a few seconds, I haven't had to slide a piece of paper in and out a single time. Self feeding system with sensors that will pause a print if filament isn't being moved, not just run out sensor, That little feature alone would have saved me thousands in lost print time, filament waste, If you are in the 3d printer abyss of never ending breakdowns, like I have been this well built machine will be a hugh relief. Thank you Sovol for producing a good product. I had a choice, two p1s's with ams or this beast and I am glad I chose this beast and now I don't see a choice. Stop reading reviews and hit the button unless you would rather work on printers than print with them. Bamwho? that's what I'm talking about. ... show more

  • Printer Caught Fire - AVOID THIS BRAND Printer Caught Fire - AVOID THIS BRAND
Color: SV08 Max Dark Silver
UPDATE: The first Sovol printer we bought caught fire within 15 minutes of turning it on due to a major grounding issue a serious safety hazard that could lead to electric shock or fire. Sovol’s response? They tried to blame our house wiring (even though our home is only 6 years old and a licensed electrician confirmed everything was fine). Sovol called it a “one-off” and assured us no other customers had similar problems, so we removed our review. We gave them another chance and ordered a second printer. This one didn’t catch fire, but had major printing issues. When we turned to social media for help, we discovered we weren’t alone others reported melting plugs and near-fire incidents. Biggest red flag - Sovol claims these are Klipper open-source. They’re NOT. It’s a closed fork that only updates from a Chinese server. No community support. If Sovol stops caring, you’re stuck with zero updates. Bottom line - Dangerous hardware + misleading marketing = AVOID THIS BRAND. ... show more

  • If You Like to Tinker and Print Big, You’ll Love the SV08 Max If You Like to Tinker and Print Big, You’ll Love the SV08 Max
Color: SV08 Max Dark Silver
The SV08 Max is a fantasitic 3d printer. Now, I won't say it's for everyone, and I do suggest you have some experience with FDM 3D printing or a lot of passion. The printer works amazingly. Ive printed so much with it already. I will say it takes some getting used to the print times. Bigger prints mean longer print times. It's not that loud, not like what I've heard others say. Maybe I have a newer revision, or my hearing is just that bad, lol. This printer is massive, with so many possibilities for the future. Cosplay items like armor or weapons, the SV08 Max will tackle those jobs easily. I have printed several D&D buildings and terrain. I did have some Wifi and Ethernet connectivity issues, but Sovol Support solved that problem for me. Sovol support was very quick, friendly, and effective. I'm going to be real with everyone. If you need a printer to print big things, get the SV08 Max and be ready to learn and tinker. If you think you want to build a Voron-style printer but find that task overwhelming, get the SV08 Max. It is Open Source and ready for mods without all the stress of building something from scratch. Sovol has all the files for this printer on their website, so mods will be a lot easier. Once the warranty has expired, I plan to mod my SV08 Max to have a tool changer system. I really love my SV08 Max. Its been a lot of fun learning and printing on it. I had way more problems with my K1 Max than I have with the SV08 Max. Once dialed in, the print quality has been excellent and very consistent. If given the chance or reason to, I would buy another one. ... show more

  • Assembly Imstructions and WiFi are a joke but the printer is fantastic
Color: SV08 Max Dark Silver
Here’s the thing, once I got the printer assembled and configuration complete, the printer has printed out-of-the-box, fantastically. My large prints that I have created for home office items have printed perfectly and at a third the time. The issue is assembly instructions which are just poor. If you were not familiar with assembling 3d printers, it was going to go south. The biggest issue and absolutely irresponsible is the POS wifi module. Using a wifi module the is maybe 10+ years old in tech is a joke. I could not connect to any of the available hotspots. Instead, I had to route a lan line 70ft to get to the printer. Charge $5 more and install a modern wifi module and antennae. ... show more

  • pretty good value but has some bugs pretty good value but has some bugs
Color: SV08 Max Dark Silver
I've had enough time with this machine to try out different filaments, different types of projects, and become familiar with its operation. Some pros, some cons; I'll list the cons first. [1]The amount of time it takes it to actually start printing something after the file is sent to it is frustratingly long, which is not so bad if everything is figured out beforehand and pretty much cut and dried, but if one needs to zero-in on the right settings for a difficult project or strange filament through trial and error experimentation, it sometimes takes many start-overs to arrive at the correct setup, and multiplying those start-overs by the amount of time to cycle the machine....can literally take many hours. Last week I had to start over 10 times...which amounted to nearly 4 hours of wasted time, trying different settings, re-slicing and then staring at the thing and wondering when something would start moving. It would be good if Sovol created an operation option in the firmware where, after doing the auto-leveling and self checking once, all the delays and dithering waiting for the self-check to complete the next time could be skipped, so after hitting the print file button, the machine could get right to work as soon as the hotend fired up. This would save users a LOT OF TIME when trying to print the exact same article over and over. [2] The filament path is literally insanely long. Really. If one needs to switch colors mid print or has run out of filament and must replace the roll, going through the motions to back out the filament in the tube and then re-feed, much like starting a print, seems to take forever. Every time I had to replace an exhausted roll it took so long that a line in the print resulted. And the auto-filament feed...ALWAYS stopped short of actually getting the filament to the hotend by about a foot, which meant I had to fuss and fiddle to get it that last few inches by manually shoving it through the pusher-helper module. Nerve wracking. [3] Ghost in the machine? Every time I was doing a several days long print and decided to get some shuteye, right after I fell asleep the machine would stop and the display would report that "there may be a clog in the nozzle..." Of course, since I was asleep, I wouldn't see that message for hours and the machine just sat there idling...But there never was a clog, and every time, after checking everything and finally giving up and hitting the resume button....it worked fine! No issue at all that I could determine, except an apparent desire to mess with me. [4] No TPU. Although Sovol documentation claims TPU is NOT a problem and the machine handles it well... it doesn't, or at least, it would not for me. One entire Sunday was consumed by trying over and over to print a simple small flat sheet of TPU as a test article, and although I varied the temperature, bed heating, speed, layer height, line width, and everything else I could think of, sooner or later the machine would pause itself and I would see that " there may be a clog in the nozzle" message. I suspect that the long filament path and the effect of the added filament 'helper' pusher module is to blame. [5} Mysterious stringing issue; No matter what type or brand of filament I tried, or settings changes I made, there was always an unacceptable amount of fine, wispy, spiderweb-like stringing around the sides and edges of the models. After struggling with trying to find a group of settings that would beat the problem and failing, I suddenly had an interesting thought; maybe it wasn't the machine that was the problem? So I used my Prusa slicer to make a dup print file, put it on the usb and....no stringing! Nice and clean! So there is some strange issue with the Orcaslicer, or the way the Orca slicer and the machine work together? At least now I know how to work around it. ( I know that a lot of makers are totally charmed with the orca slicer, but me....not so much. I find the Anycubic 'Next' slicer similar but better, and the free Prusa slicer is a good generic go-to. I finally gave up on Cura. ) [6] The promise of high speed, but...My experience was that I found it neccesary to bolt the table the printer was on to the wall in order to limit jolting/banging table frame flexing from the excessive chassis movements of running the printer at higher speeds. Long story short, after a little trial and error, I determined that anything over 70 mm/sec was detrimental to surface quality and corner /edge definition, so...pretty much the same speed as my old Modix big60. [7] Noisy!!!!!!!! The CPU fan sounds like a MIG fighter getting ready to launch off a carrier deck....ALL THE TIME. I'm currently looking for some kind of fan upgrade that will kill the racket. Also the drivers/servos 'sing' when working, and I guess my Modix has spoiled me because it is absolutely silent other than an occasional clicking sound from the extruder when it is retracting filament. The filament 'helper' pusher-module mounted to the side frame is obnoxious sounding...I used to have an Amazon parrot that made an identical noise when it was fretting about something. Hard to get used to/block out. [8] Nozzle size stops at .8.... I'm not sure why, because the hot end seems to have no difficulty delivering a high volume of melted plastic when called for, but I wanted to put a 1mm nozzle on and was disappointed to find the machine firmware won't allow it. Pros! [1] once dialed in, the results you get are pretty consistent, and dimensional accuracy at lower speeds is quite good, if you print something with a hole that your editor says is 55mm in diameter, that's almost exactly what you wind up with, which is very helpful when printing parts that fit together. [2] The eddy-current auto leveling is pretty quick, much faster than any of my other machines, which have to stop dead at every sample point and measure 3 times, then move on....this was one operation the machine performs with great rapidity, which is a great aid considering the size of the platen. [3] assembly was not too bad, it took me an entire day, but then again I don't like to rush putting a new machine together, one can miss things. The nozzle ceramic heating element was cracked, which I eventually discovered when trying to determine why the machine would not finish the startup sequence. I fired off a support request to ask for a replacement part but the Sovol team never replied. [4] I like the built in lighting, which is plenty bright, and the gantry mounted camera/ability to make hyperlapses is cool. [5] Although some other users complain that the control screen is too small, I think it's fine, although I use the web browser interface for all control functions. Usually. [6] The flexible steel build sheet is quite robust and even after several vigorous cleaning sessions, the PEI texture is still good as new. ( an optional dbl sided smooth sheet with carbon fiber patterns on it would be a nice thing to find on the Sovol website...) [7]The chassis/frame and all mechanical components seem quite robust and well made, the gantry is particularly impressive, with high quality linear rails everywhere, no cheap-ass round rods and ball bearing plastic sliders that we see all too often on machines that are expensive enough to have linear rails but don't. When assembling, if you need to line up a couple of components to insert a fastener, you don't have to wrestle with it, everything lines up perfectly. [8] Nozzle changes/working on the hotend carrier is a breeze, easy to get at and easy to put back together, with magnetic attachment points. [9] The part cooling fans are very strong and very effective, I have found I can run them below 25% for most PLA work, but it's nice to know I can dial up more cooling if needed. This is a point my Modix falls down on. If it wasn't for the stringing issue and the fact that I never heard back from Sovol support I'd give 4 stars. ... show more
