  • Awesome price, great furniture
I was concerned about buying it because of the negative reviews but I'm glad I went with it because it's a great piece of furniture for the price. It looks modern and goes great in my bedroom. The material is cheap but, like I said, a tight budget requires sometimes that you buy cheap. If you expect to put food/drinks on it, it probably won't last long. I would recommend it in a room for adults who'll leave it alone. It does smell a bit the first few days. The set-up is really difficult but once you do it, it's worth it. The part that is difficult are the drawers. Every step of putting the drawers sucks! Expect to try different tools, and be amazed at the screws. I would recommend standing on the plastic slider stuff instead of using the hammer (you'll know what I mean if you get it). Also, get a few friends over and put the drawers together because it'll take a few hours alone. Even my strong husband found it challenging cuz of the dumb design. Also, N item may be broken in half. You don't really need it. We put it in place anyway. Hope you enjoy it! ... show more

  • Truly Awful!
For 150 bucks, I expected SOME degree of quality. I've put plenty of flatpacked furniture together by myself before, but this was arduous and ultimately not worth it. Save 75 bucks and pick up something easier to put together at Wal-Mart, or take 150 to a consignment furniture store, or anything, really, because this dresser was so godawful, pricing it at 150 is downright shameful. Pros: Dresser is a pretty color, and is large. Cons: Shoddy Instructions - Finished/Unfinished sides are not labeled in the diagrams, so you have to make those calls yourself. There's many different types of screws you need to use, and if you aren't experienced enough to recognize each one the instructions don't help you out at all, as the screws, despite being in separate bags, are not in any way labeled. More guesswork =more mistakes, and since the material is just slightly thicker-than-normal composite board, unscrewing/removing nails/etc., tears up the wood. Cheap Materials: As said, the boards are just particle board, and the ENTIRE back of the dresser is a plain, undecorated 2 mm thick sheet of cardboard. The bottom of the drawers are the same thickness, and flimsy, but at least have the decency of having a faux-wood pattern on them. The sliders for the drawers are all plastic, and a few of mine are slightly curved/warped at the ends. Poor Construction: As another reviewer mentioned, a number of the boards are not cut at the right length and overlap where they should not, and many, MANY holes are not drilled in the correct place or drilled largely enough, especially on the drawers. And of course, as other's have noted, the drawers don't fit well in the sliders at all. Yay. WTF: Some parts of assembly requiring drilling screws through two layers of material (cardboard/composite wood, plastic/composite wood) without holes for reasons I can't fathom. In the first instance nails would have made more sense and been easier to use, and in the second I see no reason why the plastic nubs were needed and they were extremely difficult, near impossible, to get a screw through. I ended up skipping the plastic pieces and filling the cavities with a glue instead. I know the picture looks pretty and free shipping through Prime is tempting, but just avoid this. It's 160+ pieces of crap. ... show more

  • Just buy it... Plan a Saturday to assemble, but it's worth it
I wrote a more detailed review of the coffee table that you can read.... We really love this series. I don't know if the manufacturer altered anything after the other reviews here, but this is not bad furniture. After assembly a couple pieces, I'm skeptical that some of the reviewers here didn't understand the directions. The directions ARE NOT HARD IF YOU READ THEM. I've assembled much harder stuff. The only tools you need are a hammer and a couple screw drivers, and no you don't need a second person. It's all compressed wood, and is held together by friction locking parts and some screws and nails. I don't know why you'd expect anything different for the price. What impressed us is that it does not *look* like compressed wood - it is very stylish. The color is a very dark brown. The room pics on Amazon must have a lot of natural light coming in. So here are some simple building tips for those wanting to improve the quality without much extra work (these are things anyone building their own furniture would do anyway... and you are kinda building your own furniture): 1. Use wood glue! It's worth the $5. Apply it between each piece as you assemble. I even threw some in the pre-drilled holes. It makes everything stronger and the piece feels sturdy. 2. Tighten the locking bolts until they stop moving. If these are loose, the entire piece will feel sloppy. 3. Go to a hardware store. Buy some wood to support the drawers. This is what I bought and it worked great: 23-5/8" x 1/2" x 2-1/2" pine (actual dimensions - had the store cut it), 1-1/2" small-tipped nails, and Elmer's wood filler (natural color). Place the wood at the front of the drawer underneath the drawer-bottom. Nail it in from the sides so that the nail is recessed into the wood (you'll need another nail to get it to recess). Use wood filler to make it flush. You won't see the nails and it greatly improves the stability of the drawer. I paid $22 for all materials including the cuts for this dresser and 3 other pieces. ----- Some other tips: 1. The drawers are designed to be either on the left or the right. They're not labeled anywhere - it should be obvious when you put them in, however. So if they don't align, try the other side. 2. To the hammering... there's a plastic piece included to put over the sliders. Hammer THAT piece, not the sliders themselves. This should be obvious. 3. The friction L pieces for the front leg can be put in by hand. Hammering tends to misshape them. If you must hammer, use the included part you used for the sliders. 4. Assembly time took about 2 hours for the frame, and about 2 for all the drawers. I beefed it up as described above, however. I'm assembling multiple pieces. The directions are all about the same, and it's getting quicker as I go. ----- Lastly, we had a slight crack in the finish on the top piece upon arrival. We called South Shore and they're sending us another piece. The phone call took me 4 minutes from dial to hangup. So another 5 stars to customer service on that aspect. - Chris P.S. The dimension for the cuts for the night stand drawers is 20" long, and the 5-drawer tall dresser is 28" long. ... show more
