  • Good TV for someone on a budget/entry level 4k TV
Size: 65 in Style: TV Only
I decided to update from a 2015 4k Sony TV and was looking for a new TV that wouldn't break the bank. At the time Amazon was doing a sale for a 75inch X800H for around 800$. I did some research and saw that this 2021 Model was the updated version of the X800H 2020 model and it had everything I was looking for. I went with the 65inch. Delivery was fast and efficient and nothing was damaged. Assembly was easy to set up, I did it by myself. However i do recommend having 2 people to help lift the TV and installing the stands esp 65 and up. The TV uses Google which worked perfectly, never experienced and lag or issues. This is sorta a basic entry/budget friendly TV, you have the typical apps that come with it (Amazon, Netflix, hulu,). Since it uses Google OS you can Chrome cast content as well as use Apple air. However one downside is I haven't been able to find a way to stream content directly to the TV like I was able to with my 2015 Sony TV. I have an android and with my 2015 TV I was able to mirror cast directly to the TV. With the 2021 model only way I've found I can stream directly is using Google and chrome casting. The ports are pretty adequate for me, it has 4 hdmi ports, 2 USB ports, ARC port, port for sound bar as well as usual port for cable and composite video. The HDMI ports are HDCP 2.3 only. There is a clip you can attach to the stand for cable management which isn't the greatest. Remote is also pretty straightforward with some usual quick access buttons like Netflix. It is nice that it has a guide button when you're watching live TV you can see what shows are airing from what times and what is going to be next. The picture quality was an improvement from my 2015 TV which also had good picture quality. The colors are vibrant and pop out. I will say it won't beat higher end Sony TV's but as a casual person who watches mainly online stuff (Netflix, Hulu, etc) I have no issues and impressed with the picture quality. I did have to play around with the settings to get a picture quality I was happy with. Depending on movies and TV shows 4k quality and upscaleing ranges from mediocre to very good. Watching Gemini Man on Hulu/Amazon had amazing picture quality. The TV show Mayans also had good picture quality even some old classics like Rocky, Top Gun looked pretty good. However some movies and TV shows the pictures can look a little washed out and out of tone like Safehouse. For me it wasn't to the point where it deterred from watching. The blacks isn't the greatest, however reading other reviews I never had anything where the blacks seemed washed out or grayish during dark scenes and transitions. As far as picture quality and reflection from windows and sunlight I can't comment on that, the way my living room is set up the TV isn't near any windows. I haven't experienced any distortion of picture quality in the day time. The viewing angle in my opinion is pretty decent, if you have a medium size living room like me this is a perfect TV for it. The TV also can play HDR10, Dolby Atmos and HLG. I've found both HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos isn't the greatest on here and can vary significantly as far as picture quality based on a movie or TV show. However for me using HLG has served as a good balance setting for picture quality for 4k movies and HD movies to pop in color and contrast. You can tweak the color settings for HDR10+ however I'm not experienced in tweaking those settings. However it's user preference someone might prefer HDR10+ over Dolby Atmos and HLG and vice versa. The brightness on this TV is also pretty decent and can get bright. This TV is also pretty decent watching live sports As far as gaming I'm a casual gamer with a PS5, I know the biggest gripes will be no VRR and low latency mode as well as being limited to 60hz refresh rate. The blacks aren't the greatest as well but can play games if they have HDR. However it has low input lag and a great response time which equals smooth motion. I haven't had any issues gaming, playing games like Days Gone, Final Fanrasy 7 remake, Last of Us II haven't experienced any issues or lag. The sound quality isn't the greatest, it's an improvement over my 2015 Sony TV and it's nice that it can calibrate based on the living room size or where ever you put this to maximize the sound. However I would still recommend using a sound bar. Overall for someone looking to upgrade from an older TV to something modern that is looking to not break the bank and on a budget this is a decent entry level to sonys 4k tvs. Picture quality is pretty decent overall. I'm happy overall with this, I understand there are better Sony TVs that have amazing picture and as usual they can get pretty pricey. Gaming isn't bad on this TV. If you're into shooters like Call of Duty you might want to look at the higher end models or their X90J which is the updated version of their 2020 X900H model. Sound is so-so but much better with a soundbar ... show more

  • A Mighty Fine Sony TV
Size: 65 in Style: TV Only
I had to upgrade from my 2014 60" tv since it was only 1080p and I really really wanted a 4K TV. This one was worth the price and It was so damn easy to set up (still recommend having two people set up, makes it 1000x easier and quicker)! After the easy set up and knowing whats on the remote, it was easy to use. Coming from an older look and also interface within the TV, it was easy to navigate and just looks very nice. Best part was that the TV stand for this TV was higher than my other that I could easily slide my sound bar under it to make even more room on my TV stand. Picture quality is great. Though i would turn off the frame rate option. I heard many people dont like that, though its a cool but now very old feature, it just makes your shows and movies look simple and cheap. Aside from that everything internal is great about this TV. I was able to set up all my devices to it and even my antenna up. Some people did mention not liking the smart TV part of it using Google's built in TV features. Though im not a fan of Google, I still never use the built in TV apps and features in the TV. Just use the plug in TV app devices. Whether you use the Apple TV, Amazon Fire Stick, Roku, or whatever else, its just easier and faster to use it on the TV rather than the built in smart TV Google interface. Thats just my two cents. Did i mention that the picture quality is amazing?! I will keep this tv for a very long time . ... show more

  • Excellent TV, but dark areas are washed out.
This TV pretty much matches what is said about it in most of the online reviews I read. It's a really excellent TV with unbelievably good color. It has one major drawback: because of its high black levels, dark areas and dark scenes are washed out. When the scene is bright, this TV is unbelievably good. The color is the best I've ever seen in a TV. But when the scene is too dark, or when part of the scene is too dark, then the dark area is washed out. If the overall quality of the image wasn't so high, it'd probably be less noticeable, but the bright areas are so spectacular that the washed out dark areas stand out. In 4k, for some reason this seems to be a little less noticeable than in 1080p, maybe due to HDR? That's only a random guess. For the price, I doubt you'll get better color accuracy from any other TV on the market, but you're paying for that with washed out darker areas. It depends on if you want to make that trade. Essentially you're choosing better bright and normal areas than any other TV on the market at this price point, but worse dark areas. However, in 4k scenes, this tends to be a less noticeable for some reason than in 1080p, and it's worth noting that the color and image quality of brighter or normal scenes is absolutely spectacular. It's very, very impressive when the scene isn't dark, some of the best image quality I've ever seen. The sound quality is pretty good, but the noises the interface makes for some reason are much louder than the volume levels of the programs you watch. This ends up being annoying enough that you'll want to disable the interface noises it makes. The sound quality overall is quite good, but I wouldn't call it anything spectacular or special. It's not bad or even mediocre, it is pretty good, but it's not going to blow you away or anything. I was worried that this TV wouldn't let you start on an HDMI input: that it would force you to start from the "smart tv" interface, but luckily this isn't the case. You can actually set it to always start on an HDMI port when it turns on, and by default it seems to start on the last HDMI port you used. One really cool feature is that it seems to autodetect if a device on HDMI is being used, and it switches to that device automatically. You can probably disable this, the TV has a ton of options. By default, there are a ton of picture "enhancement" features that are enabled that modify the picture. Stuff that removes noise, enhances contrast, adjusts color and white balance, and so on. This stuff does make the picture look better, but it modifies the picture. So if you're a purist like me, there are a ton of options you'll want to disable. At the very least, you should disable the motion "smoothing" stuff because motions smoothing is well known for ruining video. Overall, this TV has stunningly, shockingly good bright and normal images, but disappointing dark areas and dark scenes. However, it is also the cheapest Sony TV on the market, and it does have a certain level of quality as a result of being a Sony TV. Mine has ZERO dead pixels, for example, which is actually very impressive for a 4K TV. When the scenes aren't dark, they look better than anything I've seen on a TV before. The next step up from this TV is in the $750 range, and I doubt it's a significant improvement. The next real step up would be the OLEDs, and those start at $1300. So considering that you're paying less than half the price of one of those things, this is a good TV. But I have to admit I am a bit disappointed when the scene gets too dark. On the other hand though, when the scene is nice and bright, this TV is mindblowingly good, so take that into consideration. ... show more
