  • Amazon gets ONE star, Sony gets FIVE!
Style: 4K Region Free
The amazon experience: I ordered this in december and I got it in april. It was an international order, but both I and my package got dicced around by customer service for months, and at one point they managed to cancel the order after telling me they would flag it for priority shipping - so I had to order it again i february. Uneblievable. In they end I got a full refund and got to keep the player, so I can't really be angry. But if you're outside the US, prepare yourself. The player experience: I had heard that this player was prone to issues when it came to 4K playback, and I was prepared to send it back in case it showed any weird tendencies (before I got a full refund that is). And the first movie I watched on it did start stuttering at one point, but in the end I just hit rewind and watch the same "passage" again without a hitch. After this I oogled the web a little and found out that you should turn off 4K upscale when watching 4K content, which I have kept to and no discs (BD-100 ones even) have had any problems since. The region free playback works fine too... I have a lot of imported BDs, so I absolutely need it to work - and so far every disc I've fed it has played without errors. I've gotten rid of all of my old imported DVDs, so I just know that BD playback is region free, but nowadays that's all I need so... The picture quality is absolutely amazing (depending on the quality of the disc of course); while it can't perform miracles it can still enhance a lot of older discs with lower bitrate. I have an LG C3 65", and they pair up very nicely. Dolby Vision content looks amazing, and HDR10 as well. I even like SDR content played with DV set to on better than without it, so that's a nice bonus for me. I also have an older 5.1 surround sound system, and there have been zero issues using those two together either. Although, I have set my TV to passthrough audio via optical cable to my surround system, so everything that's plugged into the TV ends up there automatically which most likely negates a lot of issues that could've been. But still... It's great. Many people seem to think the Dolby Vision setting is a pain, but for me it's a non-issue (since I am in the settings turning on and off the upscaling anyway). It upscales SD content superbly too; my DVDs never looked better... And I would say the same goes for "regular" blurays as well. The settings menu isn't very pleasing to look at, but it is very easy to navigate and understand. One of my favorite surprises was the ability to force subtitle offset +/-, which I absolutely LOVE (!) - being able to relegate subs to the bottom black bar on letterbox AR is fantastic. You can also set some image enhancements for certain video feeds (not 4K DV though, obv), which sometimes helps reduce noise and such. It comes with three streaming services pre-installed, Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube... But as soon as you connect to your internet Prime Video will disappear, because apparently Amazon has dropped support for this device some time ago. I don't know why that means you can't use that app. I have an old smart TV from 2011 and the old Netflix app on that still works without a problem. So... Fk Amazon, is my takeaway there. Still, I should mention that, just like my DVDs, Netflix never looked better. I used to watch on my PS5, and the picture there is superior to most other options I know of, but this player beats it hands down. I instantly plugged in my external HDD into the USB port on the front, and it showed up quite quickly and was fully explorable. Unfortunately the compatibility with video and audio formats is quite limited. Although, the files that work I would say look a lot better on the player than on my computer - especially HDR10 files. DV doesn't seem to work at all unless it's a BD. In the end, I am very happy regardless. If you got a 4K TV and some 4K BDs then this is a great option Of course, only time will tell if the quality will be the lasting kind. ... show more

  • Truly Region Free and works perfect!
Style: 4K Region Free
I was skeptical cause of so many reviews various places, but this thing works perfectly. I'm a horror movie collector, and spent some time in the UK. While there I bought some Dvds not knowing of region codes at the time. So imagine my surprise when I came home and realized they wouldn't work in any of my players. If you google Region Free Blu-ray player, this is one of the first choices. Not on here though it recommended best buy, but the same model. I checked the specs and it didn't say all region, but it didn't say it wasn't. Also as far as formats, it plays everything under the sun so I figured it would work. Nope! So I took that one back and found they only way to get the region free models was thru stores that mod them. I actually found this stores actual website before finding the Amazon store. I had some questions and their customer service was very prompt and informative. They assured me it was region free, and they were right. It plays all region dvds with no settings adjustments. To switch to region A, B, and C it there's an easy to follow instructions sheet to use with the remote. If you have any issues with any kind of playback error, you can reach out to them at any time for support. Would definitely buy again and recommend you do as well! ... show more

  • Premium 4k Supposedly Regon free 4k Blu Ray player
Style: 4K Region Free
Im a huge Home theater buff. over 1600 Movies/ TV series in my collection. 4k, Blu Ray and DVD. I own a few items that I can only get from other locked Regions. So I bought this player. Which I point out is literally twice the cost of the same model w/o the region free option. I was excited to get it. Until about the third day. I started out watching a BluRay of a Gundam Series that is region locked to B (UK) and it played great. The player even remembered the language track type I chose on disk one so I didnt have to change it back for each other disk in the series. Then I played a couple 4k movies. Great, no problems. Then I played some Stargate SG-1 Episosdes (Regon A my regon) again no problem. Then I put in a Blu Ray disk of the Six million Dollar Man, also Region A. I could not play the disk. I keep getting a Region Error. So What good is a Region free disc player what regects some discs that are from my natural Region?!? So much for region free. And for the record, the discs play fine on my other BluRay players and 4k players. Exceedingly dissapointed considering what I paid for it. ... show more

  • Picture perfection Multi Zone and Dolby Atmos

Great 4K and UHD player. Clunky interface but has DNLA and works well with my NAS and media player. Gorgeous picture with HDR and Dolby Atmos. This multizone player plays all of my imported Blurays as as promoted.

  • So far so good! (Update)
Style: 4K Region Free
It will not play Top Gun: Maverick 4K UHD. Device has the latest firmware. Dropping to three stars. So far, everything has been satisfactory. I have used the player several times, and it functions well. While I do not particularly need the region-free feature, as all of my discs are Region 1 (and 4K UHD is universal), my primary requirement was the capability to connect it to a 220V outlet. Aside from that, it is an excellent player and delivers a clear picture. ... show more
