Be sure to buy the one sold by 220 Electronics if you want region free software upgrade. In order to have the upgrade, the company installs the software & then sends it to you. It is shipped in the post (not prime). It works. Each time you load a disk you must select the region by colour (they send instructions), but then it works. It plays B Euope blu ray & 4k DVDs. The remote controls on all these need to be redesigned so the the play button is not easily confused with netflix, but otherwise it works. I used the Panasonic DP-UB820-K which, like the Sony are some of the best available, but that one doesn't play non-US disks. Buy the upgraded by 220 Sony & you'll be able to see your dvds. The rear has HDMI & coaxail, but this advertisement does not clearly show the rear of the dvd player or properly the connections. Amazon needs to include this with all electronic products & offer compatible cables/devices in a 'recommended' list, not unrelated sponsored products.     • Great region free player for the money.
I spent all day watching my blu rays and testing my non usa collection of Alfred Hitchcock presents. Not one problem. I only had to use the color code chart once to get my Twilight zone collection to start up and that was it. The only reason it doesn't get five stars is the home screen UI and app selection had a boring feeling I'm more of a Samsung guy but at this price it does what I wanted and the picture like Ben Hur is just amazing. ... show more

    • Great Player for everything but DVDs
I bought back in January of 2023 but only realized a problem with it playing DVDs today in September of 2023. When I first purchased this item, I tried ALL kinds of discs to make sure it was working properly - DVDs, blurays, 3D, 4K- and of different regions too. However, I only played roughly 5 minutes of each kind to verify it was working. Blurays, 3D, and 4K work beautifully without a hitch in all regions, however when I tried playing a plain old DVD today, about 10-15 minutes in, the screen started tweaking or blacking out for a moment and then coming back on, but having the audio playing at a different speed than the scene. At first, I thought it might be the HDMI cable, so I switched it, but it was still happening. Then I thought it might be a bad port on my TV or my bluray player, so I switched ports but it was still doing the same thing. I thought it might be a problem with the DVD itself (since it was one I had purchased in the early 2000s) so I brought the bedroom bluray player (different brand) out, attached that one, and tried playing the DVD and it had zero problems. I re-attached the Sony player and grabbed a completely different DVD to try that one, and roughly 10 minutes in, the same problems started happening. I thought for a moment that maybe the unit itself might be having problems, so I took out the DVD and put in a 4K disc...and it played with no problems at all for the 40 minutes I had it on....this unit clearly has an issue playing DVDs. I doubt every unit is like this, but still, to all buyers and current owners: If you still own DVDs, play them in this player for a long time to make sure it's working properly or else you'll end up like me, realizing there is a problem too late, and unable to return. ... show more

    • Compact Region Agile player - wish i would have purchased one sooner
With the plethora of disc media these days, one still encounters an issue where the film / disc that one wants is in only available in another region. I live in the u.s.a so i was able to test a DVD region B and a Bluray region B. worked great. only niggle is i wish the player gave some sort of indicator when you press one of the colored buttons, but this is a niggle, it worked great. I purposely ordered from the 'sub-seller' 220 electronics. came with the hdmi cable, instructions. I don't begrudge a penny spent. Wish i would have gone multi-region much sooner. UHD disc played just fine. Pink Floyd SACD played just fine. When you consider what a DVD only player cost in the late 1990s, this is a bargain. Thanks again. ... show more

Took awhile to get this with BR multi-region support as described. First try, I waited weeks only for it to seem that it was out of stock. Bought from another seller which I highly doubt it has multi region support based on my correspondence with them. Third time is the charm with 220-Electronics. I am highlighting the seller I bought from because I think this item is tricky to get as advertised. Got the device with instructions on how to switch BluRay regions and it works as intended. No problems playing 4K BluRays. I have heard there may be problems with this model on playing 4K BR but I haven’t experienced it on mine. ... show more

I love it! I used it to watch a couple of concert DVDs – no problems. I am not yet able to test the Blu-ray aspect; however, don't anticipate any issues. The order was processed and shipped promptly. The player was well packaged and nothing missing. I don't fully understand region codes, but on the instructions there is no mention about a setting for Blu-Ray region C (Russia, Asia, and China) so not sure what this means. The product description clearly indicates: "Plays 2D/3D Blu-ray Regions: A, B and C Plays All-Region DVDs: Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. 0", so hopefully a non-issue. I definitively recommend this product and would buy it again. This player normally retails for around $155, so the cost of the modification turns out being around $168. Whenever shopping for these kind of players always check the description carefully to confirm it does in fact support ALL regions for BOTH Blu-Ray and DVD discs. ... show more
