  • Buy used
Bought mine used. It is solid and gives me the grip on my a7iii I was looking for. The battery life is great as well.

  • Too expensive for what you get.
I'm not really sure if it's needed since the Z battery on the Sony by itself is already outstanding. This does help when shooting in portrait orientation. It does add noticeable weight to the camera itself. And if you are adding a flash then your camera will be pretty hefty. My main gripe is the price. I find 350 to be astronomical for this thing. I've bought the knock off brands and they a so close to this and they cost right around $50. I've tried two different knock offs and one was better than the other. On one of them I had to depress the shutter too hard for it to take an image. The other knock-off brand was fine. The only reason why I'm really sticking with this is because of my desire to keep my camera "all Sony". Other than that, I'd highly recommend a knock off brand. ... show more

  • Amazing Grip
All I can say is, yes it is heavy, but it makes such a positive difference!!! The grip, the battery life, everything is better with this grip! I’m so happy I got it!

  • Comfy & Handy With Full OEM Compatibility
With a nagging hand ailment and a pressing need for smoother workflow (particularly shooting handheld in portrait orientation) a vertical grip became a no-brainer for me. If you shoot a lot of handheld vertical frames, you really should check one out. You get to keep your ams braced against your chest while retaining full access to a shutter, c1 and c2 buttons, AEL and AF-On buttons, front and rear dials and even a second joystick! Since I make a good part of my living with the camera now, I decided not to mess around with the cheaper units. I still have just one battery and that's not a problem (the camera & grip sense which of the two slots is loaded). A second cell will double the already ample battery life. I did deduct one star for value as the OEM unit is not exactly a bargain. I also deducted one star for durability for the relative fragility of the thin plastic battery tray. I left both at 4 stars as the build seems otherwise decent and the the money does seem to get you a smooth & flawless integration. ... show more

  • Poorly built and not very comfortable.
This grip is very disappointing, particularly at this price. I bought this grip to make the small A7RIII more comfortable in my hands, particularly with large lenses. Here are the problems I have with it (more details on my website): 1. First, it simply does not have the sturdy, professional build quality that I need from a professional piece of equipment. The main body of the thing is fine, but the battery tray (and the tray cover, which makes up the left side of the grip) is flimsy and brittle. I know that space is limited in this grip, but the tray is very thin plastic, it feels almost like egg shell. I could probably live with that if the battery tray door were sturdy... perhaps aluminum or even thick plastic, but it's not. It's the same thin plastic, and when I'm working and the camera bangs around on things, those corners are undoubtedly going to break. My old, cheap 3rd party grips for Nikon and Canon feel sturdier than this. That said, the actual controls and electronics are fine and work well. 2. It's not actually comfortable to use. It's better than no grip at all, but the jagged rear dial (along with the corners of the dial's inset) is placed such that it digs into my palm as I shoot. My Canon and 3rd party grips for Canon and Nikon are all much more comfortable, simply by paying attention to the contour of that edge. 3. It's not weather sealed... at least, not very well. There's no rubber gasket between the body of the camera and the grip except for around the battery/connection column. This would be fine if Sony had properly sealed the bottom of the camera, but they didn't so this would have been the perfect place to fix that problem. More importantly, there's NO RUBBER gasket between the battery compartment opening and the tray cover. A piece of gear like this is only as strong as its weakest part, and the thin plastic battery tray is a serious weak link here. Luckily, I don't have to work in harsh conditions very often these days, but if I were a journalist working in a war zone, or even covering any sort of action news, I would not trust this grip. I've used Canon and Nikon grips (mostly Canon) for the past 25 years, and I've never had this concern. ... show more

  • Grippy
Great addition to my SONY A9, much needed if you shoot vertical shoots for portraits or sports. Camera fits so much better in my hand now with the grip, it rarely comes off. Fit and finish is good, looks and feels nice. IMO, if you spend thousands on a camera, I wouldn't go cheap on a knock off grip. ... show more

  • Perfect quality and fit, infinite battery life, great design
A great addition to the A7RIII if you do long photo shoots in the field or video work. Battery life is already strong on the A7RIII but with two batteries you won’t ever run out of power in a single session. The batteries slide out in a drawer (with a satisfying release lever) allowing you to swap in a fresh battery without unscrewing the grip or fussing. The size makes the A7RIII a full size camera, which can be good or bad. I appreciate the extra grip area and extra control buttons on the grip. But with a big lens and the extended grip you lose any size reduction from being mirrorless and essentially convert the camera to a professional size DSLR. Quality is great, materials and fit top-notch. ... show more
