  • Reliable Sony!
Style: DVD Player
This is just a perfect basic DVD player for someone on a budget! My family's old Sony finally needed to be replaced and, since it had been so reliable for years, I knew that I wanted to get another Sony. This one was in "Like New" condition and it's even better than that. I like that it's compact, sleek, smooth functioning and incredibly simple for even me, Grandma, to set up in no more than 5 minutes. The remote that comes with it works for the TV as well. I'm absolutely thrilled with it! I will say, however, that if you need RCA cords longer than 2' you should order those separately, as I did. Otherwise, this DVD player is ready to give you many great movie nights. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Sony - Quality Products that you can Count On
Style: DVD Player
Sony has never let me down on any of the items I have purchased from them over the years. Regardless of what type of device it is, if it is a Sony then it usually performs perfectly, and with the setups getting easier and easier every year. I especially enjoy the photo slideshow that is built in, all I have to do is throw my photos (in several common and popular formats) onto either a CD or DVD (if I really want a ton of photos on a single disc) and burn it as a standard ROM type disc. Pop it in and hit play and the slideshow of your photos begins. Worked so well, I gave one to my Dad for Father's Day, and it's really cool that the new remote for the DVD controls his Sony TV as well, making it simple for Dad or Mom to use, and that is important, since they didn't grow up with any real electronics (aside from dry-cell battery powered, vacuum tube radios) and they really do try, but they just can't remember things like when they were younger, and they really don't get just how the computer even works. So I always try to keep it simple, but with good features on it as well that are easy to use. Displays gorgeous, rich, deep colors on my HD LCD or on Dad's Cathode Tube type Bravia from Sony TV. Great player, packed with features and at a great price, what more could one ask for in a DVD player. ... show more

  • High cost-performance ratio is its only advantage.
Style: DVD Player
This machine is smaller than I expected, and the build quality is quite rough. While its general functionality is decent, its high cost-performance ratio is definitely a strong point.

  • Compact, Reliable DVD Player with Easy Setup
Style: DVD Player
Compact, Reliable DVD Player with Easy Setup This Sony DVPSR210P DVD player turned out to be exactly what I needed: a no-frills, dependable unit that just works. It’s compact enough to tuck into a small entertainment setup or even a bedroom TV, and the lightweight design makes it easy to move if needed. Setup took only a couple of minutes—plug in the power, connect the included AV cable, and it was ready to go. Playback has been smooth and consistent across a mix of older discs and some newer DVDs I tried. The picture quality is solid for standard definition, and the player handles fast-forwarding, rewinding, and skipping chapters without any lag or hiccups. I also like the responsive remote, which has all the essential buttons without being overloaded. A couple of things to note: this is strictly a DVD player—no Blu-ray capability, no HDMI output, and no streaming features. It connects with the classic red/white/yellow composite cables, so it’s best matched with older TVs or setups that still have those inputs. If you’re looking for something to use with a modern flat-screen that only has HDMI ports, you’ll need an adapter. Bottom line: A great budget-friendly choice if you want a simple, reliable DVD player for everyday use, especially with older TVs or secondary setups where ease and affordability matter more than high-end features. ... show more

  • Great little machine for the price point.
Style: DVD Player
I paid $35 for this DVD player back in June, 2012 which I thought was a pretty good deal. Now I see it is under $30 so my advice is to buy it while it is hot! My old Sony player was about ten years old and every other rental DVD I received skipped around so badly I couldn't enjoy a movie. As I wasn't sure if I wanted all the bells and whistles right now (Blu Ray or wireless to stream movies, etc) I went for cheap. So I was expecting a basic machine and that is what I got. So my five star rating is based on the price and that it plays DVDs, which is all I need. If you are looking for a player that walks the dogs and does the dishes, or to impress your techie friends, this item is not for you! My main complaint (at first) was there is no digital time display. I was used to seeing how far along the movie was by looking at the face of the player. But now I just press the "Display" button on the remote and it tells me how many minutes I am in to the DVD. This is important when I am playing my aerobics DVDs. So I am used to it. The nicest feature is that I can take a DVD out of the machine before it has ended, put in another DVD and play it, then when I want to finish watching the previous one it starts out at that same point. If you don't want it to do that all you have to do is go to the menu and start over again. Maybe all players do that now but my old one didn't. This unit is half the size of my previous one and space is always a consideration for me. So all in all I am very happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • Died after three months of occasional use: junk
Style: DVD Player
I am downgrading this from the original five stars (see review below) to one (zero) stars. After three months (almost to the day) of very occasional use, it went belly up. It just died. It stopped playing in mid dvd (and it had previously stopped many times but then righted itself after turning it on/off) and wouldn't even let me eject the disc. I'm going to check the warranty but considering it was only $30 I have to ask whether it's even worth returning it. If I decide not to return it, I'll have to take a screwdriver to it to get my dvd back (and it was brand new). I am about to buy a blu-ray player, but you can be assured it will *not* be a Sony. My recommendation: don't even think of buying this piece of Sony crap. I've learned my lesson: stay away from Sony. The original review: When you consider that it's easy to run out for a pizza and drop $30 these days, this dvd player is a bargain. I've had it about a month now and it operates perfectly. The remote control seems to have a lot of functions that I'm not sure have anything to do with the player, but that's OK, it also works just fine. I bought this just to use as a bedroom dvd player. I had a great Magnavox, also a cheapie, but the remote died and I couldn't find a universal that operated all of the features, so I just dropped $29 (the price when I bought this) and got a new player. My only complaint is that the controls on the player itself are very tiny and hard to see (there is no illuminated display window showing you functions, etc--you have to get a bigger player for that option I guess), but most people use the remote, so no big deal. The player works great and, again, for $30, what a bargain. ... show more
