  • Dependable and affordable DVD Player.
Very dependable name-brand DVD player. We have three total and have never had a problem.

  • More bang for your buck than anything else in this price range
I looked at alot of DVD players and was disappointed in most of what I saw. Some went straight to the video instead of to the menu, some had an audio lag, some were painfully slow to start, and some had unintuitive remote controls. I was especially disappointed with all of the Sony DVD players I looked at. For this and other products Sony has really gone downhill. This Panasonic player loads quickly, sets up easily, opens the menu, the remote has alot of buttons but it is easy to learn, it doesn't generate heat, and basically it does everything it is supposed to do better than many other brands. It does upconvert, not all the way to 1080 (none of them do due to the original quality of the recording), but the picture is better than I expected and there are no artifacts like in other upconverting DVD players. It works through my eARC connections (when I turn the DVD player on my TV also turns on and selects the correct HDMI port on my TV, plus it turns my soundbar on in the correct sound mode), and my TV adds some additional upconversion. It should note that I have a newer 4K TV and I use certified 8K HDMI cables. Since this is installed in an enclosed cabinet, I installed an IR repeater with an outside the cabinet sensor and this player and remote control have no problem with IR response at all. I am very happy with the quality and operation, specially given the price of this DVD player. ... show more

Great dvd player

  • GREAT DVD Player
I bought TWO of these DVD players. The first one I bought was on December 3, 2016. I liked it so much that I bought a second one on November 12, 2017. I put that one in the attic in case the first one I bought failed but so far so good. I've been using the first one now for a year and a half and have had absolutely no problems with it. It is VERY simple to set up. You have to have either an HDMI cable AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable, 6 Feet, 1-Pack or an RCA Audio Video Cable RCA Cable Audio Video Cable 3 RCA to RCA Male to Male M/Mx3 for Old TV Gold Plated - Red and White Yellow Cable (6Feet(1.8m)) to connect it to your TV. "Older" TVs use the RCA cable. Newer TVs use the HDMI cable. I already had an HDMI cable so I was all set and my TV is eight years old. Then you just plug the DVD player into a regular wall socket and you're up and running. Just two simple connections and that's it. All I wanted was a simple DVD/CD player with none of the hassle of all the "frills" and I got it. Make sure you buy the player with "1080p upscaling." This upconverts a DVD player to 1080p to get the best HD picture, almost as good as Blu-ray.. I have a Panasonic 42" 1080 flat panel TV and the picture is great with this DVD player. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a clock but I really don't need one. What a bargain for 50 bucks!!! ... show more

  • Choose Another Brand!
I have to give this one a low review. One it doesn't come with the cord needed to go in back of your TV so either have one or go but one. Two is really the reason why. It's the worst DVD player I've ever owned. It takes a long time to load and start playing. Also each time you want to put in a DVD even if playing more than 1 DVD, if you want closed captioning you have to select it. You basically are restarting everything each time you want to hit play. If you hit pause or replay/ fast fwd too many times it will tell you the DVD cannot be Read or it will say No DVD when there is clearly one in there. The remote is small and the buttons are too close so if you select the wrong button you're likely to start the DVD over... That's if you can get it to play again. Honestly I have DVD/ VHS combination that is 21 years old. It plays way better than this one. Quality today is down the drain. The manufacturer should be giving this one away for free. Don't waste your money. This is a true review. I still have time to return mine and I think I just have to. ... show more

  • Great inexpensive player, is **NOT** region free, but CAN be converted (Panasonic tells you how!)
TL;DR: great inexpensive DVD player, not region free, but convertible to region free. I was looking for an inexpensive region free (or "multi-region") DVD player to give to a friend. Based on reviews, the Panasonic DVD-S700P-K was the top choice, and the reviews specifically stated "multi-region" (or "region-free"). Well, they weren't telling the entire story. As shipped from Panasonic, the DVD-S700P-K is restricted to one region (the USA), or to playing the DVDs marked "All". Panasonic *does* provide, on their website, instructions for converting the player to multi-region ... but it's tricky and requires a *second* Panasonic remote control. Ugh. There are some vendors on Amazon selling this product with the conversion already done for you ... at a higher price (which pays for their labor), so if you were thinking of doing the conversion yourself, and *don't* have a spare Panasonic remote control (with a 'pause' button!), look at them. I tested it out and it worked fine with a region 1 (North America), and refused to play a region 2 (Japan) DVD ... as expected. As for output...it has minimal outputs: one HDMI (regular size) ... CABLE NOT INCLUDED one video out (RCA jack) and two audio out (L/R RCA jack), cable is included So, if this is your first HDMI device: 1. check if your TV has HDMI input 2. consider ordering a spare cable from Amazon ... and note that regular cables are just as effective as gold cables (with the possible exception of very long term durability) .... HDMI is *digital*, so unlike audio, gold doesn't make for a better picture! ... show more
