  • Good Blu Ray Player
Good player, works great

  • Great with 2 Adjustments
I need to give a little history to explain the headline: Back in 2015 I ordered Colossus: The Forbin Project which is a very good film about what computers can turn into when man makes it better than themselves.. It said in Widescreen, but it turned out in widescreen in Standard Format. Back then it looked very small. I returned it. A week ago last Friday I was talking to Amazon and brought up my experience in 2015. The Rep looked at all option and the only version with true Widescreen was Blue Ray. So I decided to take the plunge and ordered the Sony BDPD 1700 wired and the DVD. I received the Blue Ray DDVD Monday. I had been watching Rebecca, so I popped it in. It showed in in Widescreen and looked terrible. Even a Widescreen The Big Country looked grainy. So I looked up Sony's Support 800 number and called it. I started to explain what happened and within 2 minutes was cut off. I called back, explained that I had been cut off and as I began explain....I got cut again. The third time ended the same way. So,I called Amazon and explained what just happened. The Rep told me to call back Wednesday at the same time and there would be an update. I called back Wednesday and they had not heard back. This Rep told me they would call me Thursday at 830am. No call at 830am. I call back at 845am and found that there were no notes , no call to or from Sony. The Rep even questioned whether my Sony TV was at fault. At that point I asked to speak with someone else. I told that Rep that I am asking Amazon to help me out. I received a case number, Friday I research and found a Sony direct Support number. I called it and explained what happened. After 90 minutes we found two adjustment in the Settings. Here is what you need to do: Screen Settings Change DVD Aspect Ratio from Letterbox to Pan and Scan Change Screen Format from Full to Normal By doing this, The Blue Ray will display Standard and Widescreen crisp and clean. You now have a great Blue Ray DVD Player. ... show more

  • Efficient, works, more bells and whistles then would of liked
Was trying to look for a simple DvD player with minimal bells and whistles and unnecessary extra features like the ones I had in my childhood. While it works well, is solid, and has good controls, it has more extra features then I would of liked to be included. Which while a negative for me, is probably a positive for most so YMMV ... show more

  • Bought this 4 yrs ago. Just bought another. Both refurbished. Perfect for what I wanted!
All I wanted was a DVD & BluRay player that connects via an HDMI cable to my TV (10yrs old) or to my laptop. I don't need any streaming services to reside on the player itself, because I prefer to stream from my laptop or to play a physical disc. This player is quick and easy to use in these ways. I bought it to replace the exact same model I bought 4 years ago whose connection ports finally gave out after 4 years of being knocked around and tugged on. I bought refurbished both times and am completely satisfied. ... show more

  • On My Third (for multiple rooms/houses)
These are a great value - I purchased two of these previously and bought another for a new condo. The first two were indstinguishable from new, and work flawlessly. A highly recommended bargain if you want a very compact, basic, easy to use BluRay player. Remote is also great in terms of range and use. ... show more

  • Exactly what I ordered in "like new" condition
This was a "renewed", used product as ordered. The box had obviously been opened and resealed with clear packing tape. But the unit is exactly the one I ordered and seems brand-new, I don't believe it was ever used, don't believe the player was ever unwrapped from its bag. Came with HDMI cable, HDMI cable was in original packing and never opened. Works great. Has LAN internet connection and "roku"-like streaming features that I have not used and do not intend to use. (I have a roku but needed a DVD/BlueRay disk player.) Has a digital audio output to pipe the sound into a surround sound system. Paid $60, good price for a blue ray disk player. ... show more

  • PLAYS BLU-RAYS BETTER THAN WINDOWS 10
Headline is tongue in cheek. Windows 10 doesn’t have native Blu-Ray DVD playing ability. Apparently it costs extra, about $20, but it made me feel like I was being nickel&dimed. So I bought this based on the reviews. My unit was an open box/return, which saved me about $10. Was running 10 minutes after I got it, no problems, and has been well worth its price. Highly recommend, especially if your prior plan was to stream Blu-Ray from your high end laptop running Windows 10. ... show more
