  • Cannot beat the same size.
The small size to what I needed. It does excellent 4K and 3d! Simple wireless controller. Price was super versus something newer and bigger. Newer does not mean better in this case.

  • Needs display
This works great. I would have given it 5 stars, but I sure wish it had a basic display and lit buttons. This seems to be the new standard with DVD players today. Sometimes you get a disk that may not load and you have no idea is the player is even ON!. The simple play arrow, stop square and pause bars, would help. I realize most people use the remote, so there are not lit buttons, but you have no idea what is going on if the movie does not show up on your TV. ... show more

  • Exceptional Blu-Ray player
This Sony player offers exceptional quality for a very reasonable price. Almost all functionality is controlled by the very easy to use remote control that will fit in the smallest hands (people with large hands must be aware of what they are doing until they master controlling the unit). We now have two of these units and two of their cousins that are modified to read blu-rays and DVDs that are from regions outside the US. We are very pleased with all of them. ... show more

  • Reception of TV and dvd
Used primarily for watching DVDs. Secondarily TV is watched.Reception is "iffy" at best and I expect better performance on any product with the Sony brand.

  • Expected good quality, but some issues with old DVDs
I've used this line of players for years it seems. This one, however, had difficulty reading some older training DVDs. Not all DVDs, just some. No issues with Blu Rays.

  • Horrible for many uses
I've revised this down to two stars from three, but it really deserves only one. This kind of unit has two basic functions. Playing Blue Ray and DVD discs. It does this acceptably well. The interface does a very poor job overall but this is fairly common to almost all of this type of device. It's as though those making them never look to the consumer to see what they want, they just write the front end software like true incompetents with no human factors knowledge at all. They don't even have the sense to look at what competitors are doing and go, "hey, that's a nice feature... we should do that, too!!" No, where this unit UTTERLY and COMPLELY fails is as a "set top box", playing ANY kind of other media. Recorded DVDs and BRs which have your own videos, imagery, or music on them. USB devices -- drives or thumbdrives with same. 1 -- there's NO - repeat - NO unified view of content. You have video, you have music, you have pix. If you want to access another type, well, switch to it and wait for the stupid SLOW-a... unit to load everything, not just the directory you are looking right at and doing the rest in the background. Typically 2-3 minutes. 2 -- the bloody codec set they have given to it is ridiculously trivial. I cannot describe the number of files I have gotten the "file is corrupted or unsupported" message accessing files that worked JUST FINE on my 4y older, failing unit... from Samsung. It's still available. Should have paid the extra and gone with either that or a newer Samsung. SO: a -- this unit is horrible. The only way to consider it is if you will never play anything other than DVDs and BRs b -- I still recommend you try some other unit not from Sony. For this to be this bad, their other devices are likely no better. I certainly have no intention of ever considering Sony electronics ever again. ... show more
