  • Works as Advertised
We don’t use Blu Ray players much but so far this works pretty well. We bought it for a replacement for a Blu Ray player that was about 10 years old and had stopped working. The player comes with an HDMI cable which is helpful. It works as advertised. I tried an old DVD from a 70’s TV show and it looks pretty good on a 65” 4K TV. The player does upscale the DVD as promised. Will update if anything changes but so far, happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-Ray Player (BRP)
Purchase I purchased this BRP in late December and received it less than a week later, on December 31st. IMO, no one beats Amazon at package delivery. I’ve had this BRP for nearly 6 months now, with over 300 hours of use to date. So far, it has glitched only twice where it froze and I had to unplug it, wait for 20 seconds, plug back in, and then restart it to reset it. It replaced a Samsung BRP that I had for 9 years, heavy use, before the audio failed permanently. It was a dinosaur compared to this Sony BRP. However, this one was double the cost but, IMO, it was worth it. I was worried when I saw 2019 on the packaging but the firmware was up to date when I checked for updates. It came with a high-speed HDMI cable, made in China, but I had a Monster high-speed HDMI cable I used on the previous Samsung BRP. Console Electrical-this Sony BRP uses rectified AC-DC operation. Less prone to interference than straight AC operation and more efficient. Power consumption is 12W. Sound Processing-this Sony BRP is superior to my Samsung BRP. I had both a VHS and DVD version of To Live And Die In LA, and noticed the song in the beginning, by the same name, was noticeably louder in the VHS tape than the DVD version, using the Samsung BRP. I thought the problem was with the DVD but when I played it in the Sony BRP, it was the same loudness as the VHS tape. If you are an audiophile, you will like this Sony BRP. Features-overwhelming at first but you’ll appreciate ALL this Sony BRP has. While the Operating Instructions were not included in the box, I was able to download it from Sony’s website. It is 45 pages long. You will not have to make many adjustments because there are factory defaults for many settings. However, you should go through the Settings menu to verify you have optimal settings and to turn off features you do not need. Initial operation-connect this Sony BRP to your TV using a high-speed HDMI cable, plus any other signal connections, prior to plugging in the power plug. Start with the Wi-Fi radio and connect to your router or 5G hotspot, or tether it to your cellphone. Then turn the Bluetooth radio on for wireless headphones or through your wireless earbuds by pairing them. If you don’t need it, turn it off in the Setup menu on the Home screen. Home screen-limited apps available but has the important ones: YouTube, Tubi, and Netflix. I have a much more extensive set of apps on my Samsung smart TV which enables me to use it as an Internet device, complete with hardware browser, and a 55” 4K 240 Hz screen. However, for those who still have “dumb” TVs, CRTs, this Sony BRP will give it added capability, limited Internet access, through their Wi-Fi or tethered connection, so long as you have a HDMI wired connection between the BRP and TV. 4K Upscaling-while it states on the box that this Sony BRP uses it, there is no documentation to support it. It does state that you must have a 4K display to realize it. My Samsung smart TV also performs 4K upscaling, on sources of less resolution, but has a quad-core processor so whether or not this Sony BRP performs 4K upscaling is a nonissue. Even mine is not perfect at this. If the source is not 4K resolution, upscaling can only approximate 4K. Watch some old B&W optical disks and you will see the difference. When the source is 4K, the picture is stunning. 3D-you must have a TV that is 3D-capable in order for you to utilize this feature, plus 3-D glasses. You can turn this feature off in the Setup menu on the Home screen. Remote (Infrared) Control buttons-the Sony BRP’s remote is superior to the Samsung’s. Dedicated keys for Netflix (shortcut)and Bluetooth radio (on/off operation), 4 different menus, and a dedicated Home button (shortcut). There are 4 color-coded buttons at the top to control various brand name TVs, a sort of universal remote. ... show more

  • Quality service
Remote was DOA but it was quickly resolved with a replacement remote.

  • Needs display
This works great. I would have given it 5 stars, but I sure wish it had a basic display and lit buttons. This seems to be the new standard with DVD players today. Sometimes you get a disk that may not load and you have no idea is the player is even ON!. The simple play arrow, stop square and pause bars, would help. I realize most people use the remote, so there are not lit buttons, but you have no idea what is going on if the movie does not show up on your TV. ... show more

  • More than just a DVD player
This BluRay player also plays Music CDs and Regular DVD's and Digital CDs including photos. You can get your favorite Apps as well like YouTube and Netflix just to name a few. It will upscale to give you a bright and colorful picture on your 4K TV. I created a photo CD with 71 photos and the DVD player did a slide show with fade out transitions available in two speeds. ... show more

  • Monitor electronic’s from Sony especially their DVD blu ray machines.
Don’t buy this system. I used this only twice, it wouldn’t shut off, wouldn’t open up and the remote had no effect. Two DVD’s and to the junk pile, what a ripe off. I’m so glad I didn’t toss my LG, it still works great after five years. My rating is no stars after all I lost my money.

  • Just okay
It works this time. Don’t use it much so it doesn’t get a lot of playtime.

  • A very good disc player for the money.
This Sony 3D disc player has a great picture. But the 4K and 3D perform like any other disc player no special effects. I am very disappointed, but the picture clarity is very good. It is a great buy for the money.
