I set the clock up in about 20 minutes- starting with date and time, etc. After reading the instructions, I looked at all the buttons on top, back and sides, then followed the instruction guide to set date/time. I didn't have to set the DST (Daylight Saving Time b/c the instructions said it's automatically set for Eastern Time Zone which I'm in.) Look under SETTING THE CLOCK MANUALLY. Remember that the initial set up is where you will need to use some buttons that are located on the back. After that, settings for alarms or buzzers, or using the radio are all found on the top panel of the clock. The clock is a sturdy cube of awesome! It looks great in my bedroom in all it's cubey moderness. The black cord isn't a problem because it's behind the clock, out of view. Clock comes with a battery already in it. After I had everything set up, including an alarm set, I noticed the "battery discharged" icon showing. ( it's a little battery icon with a / through it.) The manual mentions that if you see the icon (assuming you know the battery is good), just press the RADIO button. ( It is second from the right, on the top side of the clock). I pressed it, the battery discharge icon went away. Alarm is super easy to set up. Two options- Buzzer or Radio. The Buzzer doesn't have an adjustable volume. When the buzzer alarm goes off, it starts out low and slow. It's volume then increases a few decibels (not much) but louder than it started, and the "intensity" of the buzzing (beeps) increases to get your attention. It works for me. Radio alarm: Volume is adjustable from very low to very loud. I set my radio alarm volume just below the middle and it's loud enough. I could probably lower it. The radio audio is crisp and clear on both FM and AM. I like the Alarm Reset/OFF button on the top left. It's easy to find with eyes closed. Since I'm not a snooze person, I don't use that function but tested it and it works fine. It is adjustable, for those wondering. The Snooze/Brightness also adjust the brightness of the numbers on the front of the clock. Just tap it until you get the brightness you like. I keep mine at the brightest setting, personally it's not too bright for me. It's also kind of like a mini- nightlight for when you get up in the middle of the night to reach for that glass of water. The SLEEP mode is cool if you like falling asleep to the radio and can be configured for 30 -60-90 minutes. On the weekend you can turn the alarm off by sliding the ALARM MODE button to OFF. When you slide it back to Buzz or Radio, it will "remember" your last alarm time so that doesn't need resetting unless you're getting up at a different time. To set the alarm time, on the top of the radio is the SET ALARM TIME buttons. A plus and a minus. Just hold one of those down and it will cycle through the time fast so you can set an alarm quickly. If you normally set your alarm for 7 a.m. and now want to get up at 8 a.m., you would press the PLUS button under SET ALARM TIME to go up to the next hour. If you need to check what time you have the alarm set for, quickly TAP the + (plus) or - ( minus) found on top of the clock under SET ALARM TIME and it'll display your alarm time for a few seconds. If you were going to change your 7 a.m. alarm time to 6 a.m., you will press the minus button under the SET ALARM TIME to go backward to the hour needed. This is really cool! No longer have to cycle through 23 hours when making an hour change in the alarm set time. Just remember when pressing either plus or minus, if you hold them down they cycle though the hours/minutes quickly. You can also tap the buttons to slow down the cycle. The alarm clock is a true, bright white. I love this little cube. The orange numbers are great and being orange, the subtleness of color compared to blue, green or red is a nice change for me.

To check the battery back up feature, I turned the breaker off to the bedroom for a minute. When I turned it back on, the radio had retained all of its’ settings. 

Definitely recommending this happy little cube of awesomeness. The instructions are easy to follow, the quality of the clock is solid, the ease of use of the settings and placement of most used buttons makes sense- and it works if you lose electricity. So I searched for a long time for a small cube shaped clock radio for my bathroom counter. We had an older Sony cube that stopped working and I was looking to replace it. Seems like this is not really made anymore as I had a hard time finding any other models other than this one which got very mixed reviews. I finally decided to purchase it and I am glad that I did. It was kind of difficult to set the first time I used it which was kind of frustrating. I actually thought that I was going to return it but my husband was able to get it working. It would not register the correct time zone at first. Other than this initial glitch I am very happy with the way it works. I honestly do not use it as an alarm clock so I can't speak to that aspect but it keeps good time and thee sound is great. ... show more

It wasn't totally horrible though: I wanted an alarm clock with radio in a small footprint and it is that and the sleek cube shape is a bonus the radio sound quality was reasonable for such a small and inexpensive unit - I prefer waking to music vs awful buzzer so sound quality was secondary Negatives: WAY WAY WAY too bright even on the lowest setting for the display! this was the deal breaker - to put that into context, yes I like a dark room and my bedside table is right at pillow height and the clock was about 1.5-2 feet from my face black cord on white unit - yuck! the supplied back-up battery was DOA - fortunately I had a spare and was disappointed to learn that while it backs up the settings and presumably the alarm function (never tried the alarm), the battery does not power the display the manual tuner dial is lame and just as difficult to tune into a specific station located in a popular frequency zone just as manual tuner dials have always been such a simple appliance should have intuitive buttons - you shouldn't even need instructions. on this, even reading the instructions didn't give me the key piece of info re setting the time - I had to find a helpful youtube [needing a youtube to set an alarm clock!!! - what you have to do is hold the + or - button and watch the hours and minutes scroll by vs setting hours and minutes separately. maybe should have been obvious but it wasn't.] ... show more

Love this alarm clock. Only gripe is I bought a black one from the store and the time automatically sets when you plug it in as well as when you unplug/replug. Wanted another one for my kitchen so bought this one. With this one you have to manually set the time and if you unplug it you need to set the time again. Cumbersome when first figuring out how to set the time. Some people complained about the bright display, that's why I bought it. I Have a room in the house that's very dark and the clock acts as a night light. Lastly, the white clock comes with a black power cord. ... show more

This clock is good looking with a very readable display, which is great, but it has a feature which is meant to automatically set the right time. It didn't work (the instructions said it might not, due to "shipping") and this meant that I had to try several times to set the time using its clunky manual time setting process. It is also supposed to automatically reset when the time changes in March but I'm not sure that will work either. I bought it to replace a 20-year-old cube clock radio that finally failed, but that one at least was easy to reset when needed. ... show more
