  • 4th one bought
I bought my first one about three or four years ago. I was so happy I bought each of my kids one for their room two years ago. Now I bought my fourth for my room. Yes, sometimes streaming can be slow with Netflix if many other items are being used through wireless functions (kids and playstations, cell phones, etc..) works great with Amazon. Not one problem with any of them yet. Best purchase I have made when it comes to wireless DVD players. Setup is simple. I am also an authorized Sony repair rep. Not once have I had to repair this item. Love it!!! ... show more

  • Does there exist a FIRMWARE to make it Wi-Fi enabled?
Does there exist some "firmware" for this player to make it Wi Fi enabled ? If that is untrue then which of the following two USB options to get it online is BETTER? ? Sony USB adapter ( ?$69) or any USB n adapter by D Link or Netgear( $10-$20 ) ??? I have D-Link Dual Band n "good enough" router which is secure & encrypted. I am using a 50 feet ethernet cable to get it online currently & have downloaded & installed all "software" updates from the Sony site. Any help will be much appreciated :-) Uma ... show more

  • Great for internet streaming
This is the second Sony BDP-BX58 I have purchased. It's so much faster at streaming than the Samsung I also own. I have a subscription to Netflix and Hulu Plus and they both work flawlessly. The only problem with Sony is you have to contact them directly to register your player. They say you can do it online, but I had a problem with mine. But, other than that, it's a great player for the price. Does exactly what the players costing 3Xs as much! I highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Suspicious from the start
My daughter purchased this exact player last winter and brought it to my house. I unpacked it, hooked it up, configured to our wifi and programmed all our accounts on it. It works flawlessly and we are happy with it. When she moved out of the house, I told her I would replace hers with a new machine. She was good with that but told me to wait until she was ready for it. The time came when she was ready. I scanned Amazon, found it, and ordered. When it arrived, it was in the familiar Amazon box with the smile on it. When I opened the outer package, it revealed a factory box that was taped and retaped, abused, scuffed, and overall in sorry shape. I was concerned but did not open the box, instead waiting for my daughter to do so. When she opened the box, the contents appeared to be brand new, never used, in the original wrappings. The literature was complete. The blu-ray player was within all of it's trappings. I felt better. She just called me. Upon power up, the tray opened, then closed, then the machine errored. This machine has to go back. I don't know if I am disappointed in Sony, Amazon, or the All Elite Deals. But I am disappointed. ... show more

  • Wireless DOA. Cheaper elsewhere.
I ordered this Blu-Ray player on Thursday. It was delivered on Friday. Very fast shipping. I plugged it in, and attempted to connect to my wireless internet connection. Regardless of the fact that it's literally inches from my access point, I couldn't get it to connect. I've got a Laptop, Desktop, 2 Android phones, a Tablet, and a Nintendo Wii connected to my wireless, but this blu-ray player refuses to connect. Whatever, my access point has 4 ethernet ports, so I just grabbed a short cat5 cable, and plugged it in, so now it's good to go. It's not worth the hassle to return it because of the busted wireless. Then, a couple days later, my wife and I are at Costco, and we see the same Blu-Ray player there for $25 cheaper than on Amazon. Oh well, my wife already threw out the box. Sony needs to supply a bigger remote with a QWERTY keyboard. Type-by-number is so 1990's. I've got the Sony Media Remote installed on my Android phone, but I have yet to try it out. I haven't played any blu-ray movies in it yet either. Been too busy trying out Amazon instant videos, Hulu Plus, Youtube, and Netflix, which it works great for. [update 06/18/2012] I've performed a couple of system updates without a hitch. Plays Blu-Ray discs flawlessly (as it should). I still don't like the remote. Anytime I need to type something in, I simply use my android phone with Sony Media Remote. Thinking about getting a second one for the bedroom...but I hesitate due to the before-mentioned WiFi issues. ... show more

  • Sony is quite simply the best
This blue-ray player is great. I always love the look of Sony and am willing to pay the difference for a brand I've known and trusted for ages. It's hard to stay on top of technology changes but the firmware is updatable via your internet service provider. Nothing like having YouTube, Pandora, Hulu, and Netflix right at your fingertips with an easy to operate remote. This item should last a lifetime. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Broken
Gave unopened as Christmas to 10 year old granddaughter. Did not work. Very disappointed Christmas morning. Nothing quite as annoying as disappointing a child on Christmas. Return process to complicated and aggravating to deal with. Put in the trash and went to Best Buy... Felt totally ripped off!
