It has a metal outside with a removeable plastic inner trash can. The foot pedal is very strong. The top can stay open if you want it to after you remove your foot from the pedal. It has a soft-close top. Some metal trashcans make a loud BANG when they close. This one is totally quiet. Most importantly, I don't smell the garbage, so it creates a good seal when it's closed. I needed a trash can that had a lid and fit under the kitchen bar. A lot of them fit under the counter but not with the lid up. This trash can was the perfect size. I also liked that it came in white, so I don't have to polish fingerprints off of it. It seems very sturdy and balanced but could use some additional design work on how the trash can liner fits into the can, then it would get 5 stars from me.
