  • The Perfect Elliptical!
Style: Sole E35 Elliptical
This is one amazing machine! It runs very smoothly and doesn't make a sound when we are using it. My headset plugs directly into it so I can listen to music while exercising. I have my "User 1" programmed so that I can easily get my workout done in 1/2 an hour and feel like I've burned some real calories. It is simple to change the settings so that I can increase the difficulty level and it can be paused if you need to take a quick break. I like going backwards since it is just as smooth and can work on the back side of my legs and bottom. It gets used 2-3 times a week instead of just sitting there like most exercise equipment. This elliptical was a good purchase too. We bought it on Amazon as a "Lightning Deal" and have not regretted purchasing it. The package was VERY Heavy so the delivery men brought it into the room where we would be using it and we assembled it there. Make sure that the ceiling where you will be exercising is at least 8 foot tall to allow for headroom. The machine length when fully assembled is 7 foot long and the width is about 2 1/2 foot wide. We have ours in our den and it takes up about half of the length of the room but is tucked away in a quarter section so that we still have room for desks and files. All the parts came clearly marked and we kept them with their bags and set them in little sections as we checked to make sure all parts were there. The instructions had fairly small print on the diagrams but we were able to understand them and follow them. Putting it together was a bit time-consuming but we made sure to read every step and tighten all the parts correctly. The hardest part was putting the final front plastic Handle Bar Covers. The screws didn't seem to fit but we found out that they need to go in at a certain angle and the hole is a little difficult to hit just right with the screw. A flashlight and a magnetic screwdriver can really help with this problem. Having two of us working together made it much easier for the whole job. The only thing (and it is just a tiny thing) is that the fan that is on the control panel to help cool you is pretty ineffective. Others have mentioned it too but it definitely isn't a big deal; just a note. We have a window that works nicely for cooling us down. I would truly recommend this for others looking for a really nice, quality elliptical machine! It is solid and sturdy, but still quiet and smooth. ... show more

  • Good Entry Level Elliptical
Style: Sole E35 Elliptical
To start off, I had some trepidation over having this delivered, since my wife's stationary bike had several broken parts due to poor handling. However, as noted in other reviews, this was delivered by a separate company, not FedEx or UPS or anything like that. In short, the elliptical arrived in fine condition and the delivery service brought it into the house for me. Do follow the markings on the box; if necessary, have the shippers help you get the box correct side up, so that you can slice around the bottom of it with a box cutter and lift the box up and off. That box makes a perfect storage container for all the packing materials inside, and if you just cut it open and tear it up, you lose that option. I've had the machine for over a month now, and have used it almost every day (most times twice a day.) PROS: **Assembly was rather straightforward. There were a couple of issues, but if you've put together other bulky items, this won't be a challenge, just time consuming. As my wife mentioned, this was the first time she can remember me putting together anything and NOT cussing a blue streak while doing so. **Mostly quiet operation. Most of the time, there's little to no noise when in use. Exceptions noted later. **Solid construction. I was a bit leery, again after my wife's bike, due to cheapness of flimsy materials. I was happy to see that there are no easily broken parts. **Consistency of operation. I've been logging my workouts, and have yet to see any wild fluctuations. I only run on Manual mode, so I can't give any advice concerning the other modes, but there is a noticeable gradiation in the resistance levels, but not too much of a jump from one step to the next. CONS: **About two weeks into use, the right foot platform developed a squeak. I have yet to isolate the source; I've loosened and re-tightened the bolts and checked everything out. It appears to be about halfway back, and is simply a flex point. A week later, the left foot platform had the same issue. The noise comes and goes, and at this point, is noticeable at the start of each exercise but goes away after about five minutes or so. **Almost immediately, the left foot platform was noticed to be slightly wobbly. Instead of only rotating as one expects it to, it also will occasionally slip laterally. If it happens at all, it only happens once or twice during a workout, and usually in high (for me at least) RPMs (upper 70s-lower 80s), then goes back to the way it should be. It does not feel loose when I'm checking the machine out, so I'm not sure what the issue is or how to fix it. **A single lap appears to be 1/3 mile, not 1/4 mile like I'm used to on other machines. Not necessarily a con, but something that I wasn't expecting. **The machine's starting level 1 resistance is much tighter than I was expecting it to be. I'm now doing workouts ranging from 9-11 resistance level, but the first week or so I was stuck around level 3, and there didn't appear to be very much difference between levels. I'm thinking it just had to be loosened by activity, and since then the levels have come out to a reasonable level...just don't expect level 1 on this thing brand new to be anything as easy as level 1 on a gym's elliptical in use by hundreds of people. **Probably the biggest drawback for me is the lack of heart rate monitors on the moving handles. They are there and work fine on the stationary handles, but ideally I'd never touch those in a workout. They do include a remote chest monitor, with instructions on use; I haven't used it yet and probably won't. Overall, I'd probably give this somewhere around an 88-90%. I specifically bought this after reading reviews on this as well as other similarly and cheaper priced ellipticals, and I would say that if you can afford the extra couple hundred bucks, go for this one if you're searching in the $1,000 price range. ... show more

  • Good machine and a good price, but lower intensity setting don't seem to do anything.
Style: Sole E35 Elliptical
I've had this for two weeks and so far so good. Assembly wasn't too bad. I actually followed some videos on YouTube. They were for the E35, but it was an older model because the handles were different, but everything else was the same. My son and I moved it downstairs without too much trouble. We unpacked it upstairs and took the pieces down separately. The flywheel was heavy, but when we cut the box away we left the bottom of the box alone. So the flywheel was sitting on the bottom of the box, then we slid a heavy blanket under the box. The plan was to slide it to the basement door, but we had to cross some hardwood flooring and the blanket was to protect the floor. When we got to the basement door, we decided to just slide it down the stairs. My son went first, keeping his shoulder against the flywheel so it wouldn't slide off. We picked it up by the blanket (not much just enough so it would slide) and had no trouble going down the stairs. Actually, for me, the hardest part of the assembly was putting the plastic covers around all the joints. Some of the screws had to go down long channels into a hole and it was hard to do. Using a magnetic tip screwdriver solved that problem. I would definitely recommend not putting these plastic pieces on until you've used it a couple of times. The directions tell you to tighten the bolts pretty hard and they weren't kidding. I stopped tightening because I thought I would break something, but because I didn't tighten enough the machine made thumping noises which went away after more tightening. Our previous elliptical was 15 years old when it broke and I used it a lot. It didn't have a heart rate monitor and I was interested in using the one that comes with the E35. It was disappointing. I had to go so slow to keep my heart rate at the correct level that it didn't feel like I was working out at all and I barely worked up a sweat. Perhaps, I don't understand what's what here, but I stopped using the monitor and used the fat burn program at a level that made me sweat. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because the intensity level doesn't seem to do anything at the lower settings. I can't tell the difference between level 1 and 10. I don't feel any resistance until you crank it up. Otherwise, the machine is very quiet and very comfortable to use and I don't hesitate to recommend it. ... show more

  • E35 Quiet and well made - reliable after 1 year of daily use
Style: Sole E35 Elliptical
**updated review*** After using this Elliptical for over a year now, I found that my old machine made me use a different stride and different arm location. Once my muscle memory got used to the SOLE E35. I've found it to be reliable and stable. It took a month or so, but my stride and arm movements seem much smoother than when I first started using. I was ready to extend the front bar under the flywheel, but now find it unnecessary. This machine is reliable and still quiet. Upped my rating to 5 stars. Replaced an old Reebok elliptical with this unit. Unit was delivered by a lift gate truck, and arrived in fine shape. The machine seems well constructed, and assembly was not exactly easy, but with the help of YouTube university all went smoothly. Some of the covers are tricky to assemble, and at first don't seem to fit, but with trial and error everything was installed. My only complaint is that if you want to use this machine for upper body workouts, using more of your arms than legs, the unit is extremely unstable. Pulling with your arms will make this thing wobble to the point of almost tipping over. It receives good grades in every review I've read including Consumer reports, but I'm disappointed with the stability when using the arms. Complicated control panel, trying to use for multiple users. I tried using the supplied manual, but instructions for this are not clear. I just gave up trying and use the manual workout adjusting the incline and resistance levels to my needs. I would rate this elliptical with solid 5 stars on everything, but the stability with arm use makes me wish I found a different machine. After the work it took to unbox and assemble, not going to return and will see if I can engineer a more stable platform in the center to stabilize this thing. ** ... show more

  • Deceptive Shipping Information
The shipping option is deceptive. It doesn't allow for in house, last mile delivery, and it was left on a pallet in the driveway. We now have to pay an additional $299 to have someone come to our house and move it to the basement. It is shipped by Sole but they don't let you pick their other shipping options. And don't try to get them to help you after the fact. Sole just gives your freight companies and installer phone numbers. Also, their freight company delivered it on a Friday but it wasn't suppose to be here until Monday. They didn't even bother to knock on the door so we could open the garage and have them put it in there. My wife and I had to drag it into the garage. Otherwise, it would have gotten soaked in the rain that night. We think the reason the other shipping options are not available is because Amazon wants their home service department to get the intallation work and not Sole. Both Amazon and Sole should be more transparent and above board. ... show more

  • Better than most gym elipticals Better than most gym elipticals
Style: Sole E35 Elliptical
This review is for the Sole E35 (2022 model). I’ve had this for 4 months now and I use it 3-4 times per week. I am 6 feet tall, 225 pounds, but now have lost 15 pounds. My wife is 5 ft 2 inches, and it works great for both of us. The part I like most is the adjustable stride height (incline) and resistance (level). Most elipticals at the gym don’t adjust stride height, which makes a huge difference. Increased stride height makes the workout significantly more intense. The flywheel mechanism is extremely smooth, and came pre-assembled (some reviews stated they had torque specifications to assemble the wheel but mine was already inside the plastic shroud). This unit is extremely heavy, so I took it upstairs one piece at a time with my adult son’s help. The flywheel assembly was the most difficult to move because it’s already attached to the frame with arms that are not secured, so we tied the arms to the frame before carrying it upstairs. Total assembly took about 4 hours, but instructions were pretty clear and we followed them exactly. I do not use the heart rate monitor or any subscription services. The eliptical is sitting in front of a TV, and I can watch YouTube videos of jogging through a park in Australia or my favorite TV series because the eliptical is very quiet. The iPhone app that connects to the unit is not very good so I rarely use it. Overall I highly recommend this product. ... show more

  • So far so good... Update: Used for a few months now
Style: Sole E35 Elliptical
I received the Sole E35 about 4 days later than expected...but Amazon apparently should not guarantee 2 day delivery with this item as it arrives by a freight carrier. Still...pretty fast shipping..about a week..and at no chargefor Prime Membership. The machine is a monster...sturdy..solid..very well constructed. It took me 8.5 hours to assemble. Yikes. Those are the worst directions ever. Label the parts with numbers. Make the illustrations larger. Some nuts/bolts were incorrect. If Ikea can use pictures without words with great success...why not follow suit? When pulling the computer cord through the mainframe with a long twist tie (great idea)...I moved two wires unknowingly that protruded through holes of the front frame on either side, that would later be connected to the arms for incline and resistance. They were just sticking out of the holes..I pulled them out as they were loose not connecting to anything. Later in stage 3 of the assembly, I discovered one is for the resistance arm and one is for the incline arm. Each is red and white connecting to the red and white connectors on the panel in stage 2. But the questions was: which wire that connected from the panel was for the incline arm and which was for the resistance? No numbers on the wires. I had of course made the wrong decision and had to take apart the plastic covers and reverse them. I hit the incline buttons on the arm...and the resistance increased, etc,. etc. Some machine screws were confused with metal screws but we figured that out quickly as they didn't fit. Just bad assembly directions. When I started the unit, there was a thumping noise. Come to find out the left pedal had a missing part. No big deal. Called customer service. They are fedexing the part and sending a tech to make sure everything is ok. Its all good so far. I have used the machine while rigging the missing part in the interim and it is quiet and I don't see where there would be any problems. I will update after I get the tech here and the part. UPDATE: I have used for a few months now. Suggestion: Make sure you get a good thick quality mat. Otherwise it won't balance and will make a slight tapping noise. I bought the suggested mat per amazon...apparently not good enough. It is quiet! I can watch tv and hear everything the same as if I wasn't on it. I personally think it is gym quality. The only gripe I have is the amount of space it takes up...but that was the choice I knowingly made. Great machine. Oh...and the stride length? Found out it changes with the incline. The higher the incline the longer the stride. FYI BUT THE BIG QUESTION IS .....HOW DOES THE POWER STRIDE ADJUST? WHERE IS THE BUTTON FOR THAT? According to all specs...there is a power adjustable stride up to 23". Anyone know? ... show more

  • Solid elliptical when you don't consider the software
Style: Sole E35 Elliptical
I've had my elliptical for over a month now and have two complaints. First, the assembly is a bear and the instructions are unclear - especially regarding the parts. Some are in a bag and the rest are in a blister pack. The chief complaint is the lack of stability with the elliptical's software. Even after several vendor updates, the application crashes. This turns off the fan and clears any workout you may be doing. And, let's face it, if you're in front of the screen chances are you're working out. Or at least trying to work out. If there's any pattern to the crashes, it's usually when using media features. There's nothing more disheartening than losing your state from a 30 minute workout 20 minutes in. Another minor complaint is moving the unit itself. While the literature may make it seem easy to shift around by lifting an end and rolling on the wheels, you may want to have a spotter. It's not a light unit. It certainly won't make any tight corners due to its understandably long base. The workouts are decent enough, though I find myself wary of using the video based workouts in case of crashes. The "text only" workouts suit me fine. Mechanically speaking it's a decent machine, at or even better than what you'd expect to find in a mid level gym. I'd have given it higher stars if it could keep from crashing regularly. ... show more
