You just place them wherever you want, and they charge in the sun during the day. The light is warm (not harsh white), so they look nice along pathways or around plants. I recently bought these attractive solar lights for the pathways to my front and back doors, which were quite dark. The lights are light-weight plastic but seem very well-made, with a transitional design that can work with modern or traditional home styles - they complement the lantern-style porch lights we already had very well. Assembly/installation: they come in three parts (light, post, stake), but you can't even tell once you snap the together, which takes just seconds. They were very easy to install - you literally just push them into the ground where you want them - so much more affordable and flexible than installing wired lights, plus with solar power and dawn to dusk operation you never have to turn them on or off once you turn them on the first time. We purchased the soft white version and are very happy with them. I also loved that you can buy them in a variety of counts to get just the right number for your needs while still tapping into volume discounts. We bought 12 to start, but will be buying more now that we see how attractive they are. ... show more
