My best purchase was a countertop water filtration system from Amazon that has optional remineralization of the filtered water. (Stokk T1 Countertop Reverse Osmosis Water Filter. I love it.) I keep the pitcher that comes with it filled and in my frig to make sure the water is cold. I have been drinking my electrolytes in canned seltzer water because I like the bubbles and it makes drinking it more enjoyable. Sometimes I would get flavored water, sometimes just plain. I've been purchasing the store brand because it contains 12 cans per case and it's less expensive. Name brands usually have just 8 cans and cost more. Enter SodaStream! Ta Da! It was on sale for Black Friday so I took advantage of it at my sister's suggestion. My filtered remineralized water is clean and delicious and when carbonated, it makes the cleanest and most delicious sparkling water I have ever tasted. This SodaStream is very easy to use. I unpacked it, read the instructions, registered my unit for warranty, set up the system and made my first liter of fizzy deliciousness in under 30 minutes! Let me tell you how economical my purchase will be. A 12 pack of store brand seltzer water is about 4 liters at a cost of about $4.50. At two cans a day, a 12 pack lasts for 6 days and that comes to about fifteen 12 packs (60 liters) for about $67.50 every 90 days. A cannister of SodaStream CO2 makes approximately 60 liters of bubbly water using the recommend 3 pumps of gas. Right now the cost for a two-pack is $68.99. (I like light carbonation so I do one/two pumps.) The 90 day cost for SodaStream should be about $34.50, if my calculations are correct. And as a bonus, I won't be filling the landfills with empty cans. (My city doesn't recycle.) This alone makes me feel good about my purchase. The flavorings are nice but will add to your cost. My electrolytes come in flavored and unflavored varieties so I will usually opt out of adding more flavoring. I really recommend SodaStream. It's fun, economical and good for our environment! UPDATE: I have been using my SodaStream twice a day since the day I got it and the original CO2 cylinder is still going strong. So far, it's lasted more than two months. I have been shopping around for one of these soda makers for a while. I still believe they are way overpriced for what they do and the simple tech behind it, but the more I read, the more doubt and apprehension built up on getting some brand-less product with no real warranty or backing from a company. This one went on a decent sale and I finally gave in. I've had it long enough now to know I am quite satisfied and happy with it. Works flawlessly and I have my soda water on demand, without waste. The cylinder replacements can be pricey but mine has lasted a ton of bottles so far and still going. I usually stay clear of proprietary designs that will not allow aftermarket consumables to be used, like the squeeze-style cylinder collar instead of the screw in type. These cartridges are identical in design across the board, no matter what brand. So when it comes to these, I do like to have choices since this is a constant replacement. I did locate a nice option recently so other than that, this is the perfect all around gadget for me. ... show more

Very nice operation just pushup and pull handle down. Does work with old drink bottles. It does not work with old CO2 bottles. The CO2 bottle also pushes in; it does not screw in and cannot be used with direct to co2 bottle to machine adapter. You must purchase the adapter for this. I went back and forth on getting this because I wasn’t sure if it would end up being a waste — but I’m so glad I bought it! It’s super easy to use, and since I already love seltzer water, it honestly feels like a no-brainer. I’ve had it for about a week now, and it works great. The size is decent — it’s a little tall, so I keep mine on my bar cart since it doesn’t fit under my kitchen cabinets. I haven’t had any issues with it overflowing like some reviews mentioned. I’ve tried it plain, with Bubly drops, and with Mio, and I like it all. I also love that it doesn’t require any power, so you can place it anywhere. It came with two bottles — one larger and one smaller/travel-size — which is really convenient. The fizz actually lasts really well if you store it in the fridge. Overall, very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone who drinks seltzer often! ... show more

Good solid design. I looked at all the SodaStream products, and this one appears to be the best quality. We like everything about it. For those complaining about spillage, if you follow the directions, there are no leaks. The lever allows for precise control of how much carbonation you want to add. I can't speak for how many liters the actual yield is yet, but based on AI analysis of reviews, and a little math, it should cost about 15 cents per 12 oz beverage based on current CO2 refill costs.
