When I first found out about these I realized flavored water is so cheap that it doesn’t save any money and it’s actually more work because you have to mail out the tanks to get replacements. First thoughts, Why bother? Here are 3 reasons why you should own this. 1) reduce waste and your carbon footprint. 2) reduce your exposure to harmful endocrine disrupting chemicals 3) make your own mineral waters and save a ton of money 1) flavored water sold in stores is made from polluted municipal water sources. They’re packed in cans and shipped many miles to local stores. Water is heavy and uses a lot of fuel to ship. I live in California where Nestle buys a lot of our water for their bottled products - and we are in a severe drought. I knowingly can’t support their business or any canned or bottled water company buying someone else’s municipal water supply. 2) cans are lined with BPA which really is bad for our bodies and especially our reproductive systems. For women, these fake estrogens can increase problems with painful or missed cycles and contribute to weight gain. For men, these chemicals can increase weight gain, contribute to manboobs, and completely destroy androgen (testosterone, DHEA, etc) levels. For children? You can’t imagine how bad higher levels of exposure to these chemicals are for developing minds and bodies. Read Countdown by Shanna Swan or watch her interview with Joe Rogan. Physical deformities for boys that mean they will never have the ability to produce enough testosterone, early puberty for girls, and much worse. These chemicals come from many sources in our environment and while we can’t completely prevent exposure we can reduce exposure by staying away from unclean cosmetics (anything scented with perfume is suspect) microwaved plastics and the big one, CANS. This is alone made the purchase worth it to me. 3) I drink RO water. It’s about as close to distilled as I can get without a big bulky machine. It’s pretty much devoid of minerals. When you drink mineral water, the minerals are dissolved in the water by the carbonation process which makes them easier to absorb than in food or pills. Our foods have about half the mineral content they had 50 years ago, Google soil depletion and you’ll see this isn’t made up. A bottle of Gerolsteiner (German bubble water) is $2.19 on sale and I could easily consume 2 per day. If you try to obtain electrolytes through supplements like LMNT or Liquid IV, you’ll pay about $1.50 per serving. Fortunately some hard working individuals have figured out how to make your own duplicate mineral waters with a sprinkle of common minerals you can buy a few pounds of for $15 here on amazon. You can easily find recipes for your favorite mineral waters or try making your own. A few pennies worth of minerals and co2 saves me dollars a da and helps me get added nutrients I’m not currently getting. If you have 3 people in your household that’s $6.57 a day if you all had one liter of mineral water or $2398 a year. You’ll easily recoup the cost of this machine, co2 and flavoring. ... show more

I've had this item for about a year now. I'd like to disperse some of the knowledge I wish I would have had when I bought it. #1 Buy extra bottles (I have 4) and fill them with your favorite kind of drinking water: spring, filtered, distilled. Put them in the fridge and only add the bubbles after they are cold. #2 buy extra CO2 canisters (I also have 4 of these too). You'll want to use the Sodastream website to get refills. with 4 you don't have to pay shipping to or from. They send you a box with four and you send the empties back in the same box after you slap a label they printed out over the top of your address. You just take them to your local post office and you're done. I bought my extra canisters from Walmart. #3 Add your flavoring AFTER you add the bubbles. If you add your flavoring before, the bottle will erupt when you depressurize it. #4 Use Hard Candy flavorings to flavor your drinks. They are cheap and they last a really long time. I use Lorann brand and you only need 2 to 4 drops per bottle. Get an eye dropper to make sure you don't waste your flavorings. #5 The CO2 canisters last me 3 weeks and I drink 3 bottles a day. You can use that scale to determine how long a tank will last you. When the tank is newly installed you'll only want to pump it twice to get a good amount of fizz in the drink. after about 3 or 4 days you'll want to do 3 pumps for that same amount of fizz. When the canister isn't doing it at 3 pumps, then it's getting low and you are about time for a refill. You can get about another 4-7 bottles out of it by just going crazy with the pumps until it's got enough bubbles in it. hope this helps some people. Enjoy! ... show more

We purchased the product as an upgrade to our old plastic bottle soda stream. The plastic one did not seem to make as fizzy water and we also wanted to try to avoid plastic more for health reasons. The machine itself had a small defect which did not impact its functionality. Amazon gave us a partial refund for the product. Overall, we are satisfied with our purchase and have been able to reduce the waste of flavored water cans a lot and were able to save money. ... show more

Read a lot of bad reviews, took a chance and it works perfectly. Been using it for a month now, no issues and comparing the bubbles to my source, can't really notice a difference. Maybe slightly smaller bubbles, but i push the source till it lights up two or three and only do about two farts on this. Came with the new quick connect canisters, sad about that as the source uses the original scew type. But hey, maybe thats why mine works so well, updated model. Love the glass now i can put flavors into the bottles without ruining them for plain water like with the plastic. A lot of people complain about the indication sound, like a fart, but i like it. Its not obnoxious like the source and i can make water late at night without disturbing the house. What else can i say? I've made three bottles a day for a little over a month now and the canister hasn't been changed yet. I also make the same with the source and had to change the canister last week. I believe i don't waste as much gas with this one, mostly because it's shrouded and i don't get the excitement watching it bubble. People talked about water and scum build up inside the shroud. Tip: fold a paper towel and place it into the can before you close it to catch any drips from the nozzle and dry up any residual moisture. If you feel it getting damp just toss it and replace. My machine looks brand new still. ... show more
