Alrighty, let’s start out with some positives: 1. The privacy lock option that allows us to key in a series of random number before or after our actual code in order to mask our actual code. 2. The ability to give out different codes to friends/family when needed. 3. The app associated with the lock is pretty intuitive and easy to use (especially to remotely unlock/lock when needed) Now, let’s talk about why this isn’t a 5 stars. It can pretty much be summed up by: the automatic function it stopped working properly. We placed the amazon purchase of this lock on 4/16/22, it was shipped on 4/17/22 and not received until the following day. The manufacturer’s warranty is one year. On 4/14/23, the lock malfunctioned and stopped fully unlocking our door when key code was entered. Luckily, we had a key hidden to manually unlocked it. Given that we contacted Hornbill within the year warranty, we’re hoping to get a replacement lock sent. Will update this review if/when we get our replacement lock.

Very little chance of getting lock out of your house due to dead batteries or other problems. I keep the key in my pocket for peace of mind but never use it. It is so quick and convenient to lay my thumb on the fingerprint reader to unlock. The multi-factor user mode is a nice feature. The security rating may not be the highest compared to expensive alternatives. But I figure a serious burglar will be inclined to break a window anyway. And I appreciate this unit being reasonably priced. I spent some time installing this lock making sure that the bolt could move freely. I had to move the strike plate for both the door latch and the dead bolt. I suspect that critics of battery life have alignment issues putting an unnecessary load on the deadbolt servo. Otherwise, the installation wasn't too bad. The left/right and knob orientation threw me for a loop initially, but I should've paid more attention to the instructions. The Bluetooth connectivity was a little clunky. Apparently, Hornbill doesn't have their own app. Given the choice of two different apps, I chose the one with the best rating. It took several attempts to connect Bluetooth with my Samsung S22. But once connected, the setup was very straightforward. All in all, I am very pleased with this SmartLock, and I'm planning to buy another for my backdoor.

This was the second Hornbill smart lock I have purchased, and was an upgrade to my previous one. I moved the first one to another door and installed this one on my primary entrance. Easy installation, easy setup, easy integration with Alexa. Fingerprint reader works great. Zero issues with either lock (have had the first one for over a year). You will need a hub to use it with Alexa, but my first one came with the hub and both locks work well with it. Very pleased. Looked at other locks that were much more expensive, but these have served me well.

It took some time to set up. Once it was set up and working it was average. I bought the gateway wifi module and made it amazing! The initial unit I had was slightly defective (keypad entries were inconsistent). I reached out to the seller and they immediately diagnosed the issue and replaced the unit. The new one works flawlessly! I love all of the features you get with this. An extremely good value for the cost compared to some of the bigger name brands that you are paying for the name. Setting up this lock was fairly straight forward but unfortunately, it didn't fit my metal security doors well. It had a wide gap that would have left it susceptible to water damage and frankly just looked awful. If it had fit our door, we would have likely loved it, as it seemed like a nice lock.
