These are fantastic and easy slow cooker recipes for dogs. It includes an introduction that provides convincing reasons to make your own dog food for your dogs health. The book is organized well. It starts with recipes for puppies and then moves to recipes for adult dogs. Then there is a chapter for senior dogs and then there is a chapter on dogs with allergies. There are also recipes for weight management and healing and recovery. There are also tips for adding supplements like fish oil and coconut oil and vitamins. The recipes include foods you find at the supermarket like ground turkey, oatmeal, rice, carrots, pears, sweet potatoes, apples, etc. Easy ingredients and easy process. This book talks about using a slow cooker for making dog food, who knew? I am actually trying out a recipe as I write this. It smells really good. There is a puppy section so if you just got a new addition to your family you are set. Chapter 6 goes over dogs who are recovering from something, so if you have a dog that has an issue it covers you too. There is a section about treats, supplements, portion sizes and handling and safety measures. The end has frequently asked questions. It is easy to read and easy to follow.     • Fantastic recipes and comprehensive book!
I've been making my dog's food in a slow cooker now for little over a year. I started doing so because my dog was overweight, and when I tried to cut down on the amount of kibble he was eating, it was clear that he was desperately hungry and wasn't actually losing weight. He was miserable. A friend of mine gave me a recipe for chicken thighs, brown rice and kale in a slow cooker, and it really did the trick! Not only was my dog now satiated, but he loved his food AND he lost the necessary 7 lbs in a little over 6 months. My vet was astounded and very pleased. So, I'm a believer in making your dog's food! That said, I only had the one recipe, and I wanted to make sure that my dog was getting all of the right nutrients, so I bought this book. The recipe's are great and of a good variety, and they're all split up by what's right for the various stages of a dog's life (puppy, adult, senior or special dietary needs). My only criticism is that it would have been nice to know why certain foods (like coconut or quinoa) were good for dogs, and how those foods were helpful to a dog's health. That said, this is a great book with great recipes and I'm so glad I bought it! ... show more

This cookbook offers healthy slow cooker recipes for every phase of your canine's life: puppy, adult, and the senior years. I especially appreciate the section of grain-free recipes for dogs with allergies: the low-calorie recipes for weight management and healing recipes for different types of ailments are also a plus. I was pleasantly surprised to find slow cooker recipes for dog treats here, which I haven't found before. As an owner of multiple dogs, I have wanted to get away from all the commercial stuff but wasn’t really wanting to incur the expense of something like Farmer’s Dog. So this book is the answer to all that. It is a very easy read, with simple recipes that anyone with a slow cooker/ Crockpot can make. The recipes are broken down based on factors such as the dogs age or whether they have certain dietary restrictions. As a bonus, Nora provides some great supplement recommendations.
