I've used 5Strands food sensitivity test for my sensitive Frenchie twice now, and it has been incredibly helpful. Two years ago, I did a pet food and raw food intolerance test to guide me in managing my dog's sensitivities. Despite what vets said about the accuracy of food allergy testing, I found this test to be a game-changer for identifying food sensitivities. Recently, when my pup started showing signs of hives as she aged, I decided to retest. The results revealed that some of the foods she was consuming were triggering level 3 sensitivities. After eliminating these foods, the hives disappeared within days. While this test may not be for allergies, it's remarkably accurate for sensitivities. The testing process is simple - just pluck some hairs, mailing them in and then you receive results quickly. If you have an itchy dog or one prone to hives, I highly recommend this test as a valuable tool for managing their diet and being a tool to use.

Got this because my dog was having reactions to foods I was giving him and that was going through so many food options. This test sure did come in handy as I suspected he was allergic to chicken however the test says he has no intolerance to it but is intolerant to much other meats and seafoods. In fact he is intolerant to quite a alot so I am now on the hunt for a dog food with limited ingredients to help with his paw licking and scratching. Also customer service was great as I had to reach out to them regarding if they received the test since I didn't get a tracking number. I would highly recommend if you don't want to shell out $800 for a vet allergy test, for food only. This gives results for everything from dairy to vegetables.

Overall I am happy with this product. It was easy to set up and the results are fascinating. With that said, it isn't perfect. To start, it isn't really a week to get results, as the provided postage is like the slowest delivery option where it took USPS 8 days just to deliver my package (from Michigan to Georgia) and then it's another 5 days before I got my tested results. The items tested also seem random. They test pollock and minnow but not tuna, which is a much more common food item in cat food. They'll test every pork organ but not pork meat/muscle. Some of the items tested just seems random. Nevertheless, this was still much needed insight and definitely worth the money in the end.

Our dog has serious GI issues so we wanted to see if he might be intolerant to some foods, so we got a 5Strands test. I got the "raw" panel because I thought it would include the "regular" test's results + more, but it's a completely different panel that leaves out a LOT of essential dog foods/treats (peanut butter, for example). We got the results back and were flabbergasted to find our dog was, according to 5Strands, intolerant to most meats, protein, and b12. In fact, the B12 was a "level 3", the highest level where 5Strands recommends removing it completely from the diet if possible. Also, seemingly, our dog is "intolerant" to Chicken Breast, free range (Level 3), but NOT Chicken Breast, conventionally raised (Level 0). I'd love to know how that distinction was made and what the difference is that would cause free range vs. "conventional" to be on opposite ends of the spectrum. Here's what the NIH says about b12: "Vitamin B12 is required for the development, myelination, and function of the central nervous system; healthy red blood cell formation; and DNA synthesis " B12 is ESSENTIAL for living, so we were immediately dubious about the results and sent them to our vet. Our vet actually called 5Strands to figure out what their testing methodology was that could result in showing a serious b12 intolerance and they wouldn't tell him! I get testing methods are proprietary but to be so secretive that you refuse to assuage the concerns from a medical professional calling you to confirm results makes me feel like this is a serious waste of money. Wish I could've gotten a refund because this is as close to a scam as I can believe.

First of all, I accidentally bought the wrong test. I emailed 5Strands and got immediate help. Sherrie (who responded to me) was amazing. She sent me a new code with the whole process of registering it correctly. It was so easy. My dog’s test results came actually less than 5 days after being delivered to them. We found out our dog is intolerant to many things. With his results, we changed both his food and treats. He is doing much better and is itching a lot less already. This is a very new change so we didn’t expect such fast results! Our dog feels so much relief. Thank you 5Stands and customer service rep, Sherrie!
