This gate is fantastic for the price! I have 6 month old 40 lb Labrador puppy, and a 16 year old geriatric cat. Litter boxes and food bowls are a huge problem because my elderly cat can’t jump high, so anything the cat can reach, the puppy can reach, too. My puppy is getting fat from scarfing down cat food all the time, and my cat is losing weight from his food always getting eaten by the dog. It’s been a huge struggle.... This gate is the solution I’ve been looking For! A few points: the cat door is pretty darn small. A small-medium size dog who is VERY determined MIGHT be able to get through it. But overall, if your dog is medium sized and over ~30 pounds, it’s very unlikely that you’ll have a problem. No chance in heck my lab puppy is gonna fit through that cat opening. It’s metal and fairly sturdy, but the bars are hollow and poorly welded onto the frame. I wouldn’t recommend this gate for toddlers, as enough pulling could easily dislodge the bars from the frame. It’s also very easy to install, but you have to look at the instructions. There’s a metal pin that settles in the holes on the expansion bar, and you have to lift the plastic piece containing the pin in order for the adjuster to move down the bar. Then you spin the plastic piece until the gate is tightly set. Very easy.... as long as you know how to dislodge that pin and move the adjuster. It’s clearly shown in the attached instructions. Overall, GREAT buy and highly recommended!

Great sturdy gate with opening bottom door to leave open for our puppy during the day. At night we close the little door and leave him in the bathroom. Bars are small... only a guinea pig or hamster could fit through them. The bottom rubber stopper comes up at 4 1/2 inches so it fits over our tall trim. Highly recommended.

Great adjustable gate to have if you have dogs that like to bolt and to keep them in certain temporary spaces. One of my dogs is a genius escape artist so I needed extra gates to outsmart him which I did with this one along with other adjustments in our home. This gate fits most doorways. Adjusts to needed size but always measure height & length before purchasing as I read some reviewers say it didn’t fit for them. This particular gate does not have a latch function. It’s more of a slide expanding option with a turn tube to tighten or loosen for adjustability. Simple to install. As for the quality….its definitely for mild to moderate dogs that behave. Otherwise this gate will definitely break as it’s just plastic. The gate is a bit in the flimsy side but will do what it’s intended for. This would be great for kids too but since they have finger sized openings, you’ll have to be careful if they decide to stick their finger in their & get hurt. Otherwise to use to blocking doorways or sectioning off fitted areas. This will do until it breaks.

I've spent hours researching pet gates and finally got this one. I have a small breed dog, a teacup Morkie (Yorkie/Malese) who is 6 pounds at most. After I rescued her, I put up a dog gate that I already had and she was able to chew right through the plastic wire material and walked right out. So I jumped on Amazon to buy a metal gate. The problem is that every other dog gate on amazon and in the stores is made of slates wide enough for a small breed dog to walk or wiggle through. I would search the reviews for keywords like "small breed" or "yorkie" and sure enough, every gate had some people saying their little ones could make it through the gate or the side of the gate where it tends to be wider. The Carlson gates were the only ones that didn't have that problem and also stated that the spacing between slates was 1.75" so I settled on them. I liked that they have different heights as well. I didn't want a tall gate because I'd like my cats to be able to jump in and out of the room to keep the dog company if they please. And it couldn't be too, too short or even my small dog could jump over it. This is the perfect compromise and its working great. I don't use the cat door feature since my dog happens to be smaller than my cats but it's a nice bonus anyway. I like the way it latches. It has two components that allow for perfect fine tuning to your doorway. Overall, I am thrilled at this gate, especially the great price and highly recommend it for use with small breed dogs.

We have five of these gates. We started using them when we brought our puppy home. The are well made and they hold excellently by pressing against the sides of the opening - I've even used them on a stair will (with a little modification). They are safe and easy to use and a great value.

When I first got this product, it seemed easy enough to get the product working via the enclosed instructions; however, in actuality it was a bit more complicated to use. You put it in the doorway but to tighten it, it is counter to what you would think. Once you understand how to create the tension for the gate, it is easy to set it. The gate removes quickly by pulling the pin. You can always find a YouTube video to see the install which is what I did. Once it is up, it is pretty solid and the pets adapt quickly to the cat gate. For the price, it is good product, but just a little tough to get it going in the beginning.

It's incredibly easy to put up and take down and it's about as sturdy as this type of design can get. If you can't tell from the pictures, it basically works like a tension rod for curtains but with a pin system that lets you quickly engage/disengage the tension at evenly spaced points along the length of the rod. It has 4 points of contact with the walls, and as long as all 4 are pressing against the wall, you can screw in a lot of tension very quickly. I don't know if it would survive if our 33 lb dog were madly, ferociously trying to get past it, but it has held up from him jumping onto it and pressing his weight against it. Chewing is also not an issue for 2 reasons: The gaps between the rails are too narrow for him to get a grip on any one part of it, and even if he did, I'm confident the metal would hold up. if you're concerned about a dog actually trying to push past it or actively dismantle it, and if your dog is more than 30 lb, then I think the only solution would be a more permanent fixture. Otherwise, this works great and is very convenient. One tip: Don't try to tighten it past the point of snugness. I noticed that you can actually continue tightening until the metal gate itself begins to bend.

I am sorry, what!!!?? I get so mad over these stupid things, I bought three of these and I desperately needed them because we got a puppy and I have two cats. So attached two photos. One is me holding it with my other hand as tight as I can up against the two walls. You will see on one side there is a space, on the bottom one while the top is tight the other side was like that as well only was a smaller space but still on the top. So it’s not my door frame because they all do this regardless what door frame I use, they’re uneven. Wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world because I could just stick something in there…however, you will see on the next photo of the horrible, horrible design of these! So the way they close, it’s not adjustable. There’s a pin and then there are holes in the holes are set maybe 3/4 of an inch apart. So in the photo that’s where I would need to press down that’s with me holding it tight. But there’s no hole where I need to press down and it won’t go over to the next one no matter how hard I push, so you have to do the hole before which leaves it to loose it basically falls down. The cat cannot get over, anyone cannot get over. I could walk by in the Winco knock it over. insoekt $90 on these because I bought three. My bad I guess we’re getting the cheapest I could fine but I needed three gates and I needed a door for the cats.of which, The door doesn’t stay open anyways and some cats don’t want to push it through. I found that out from when I basically just means these things up against the wall since they don’t close. I’ve never left such a bad review on Amazon in all my years of using it but I’m so mad about these things. Sure I could’ve returns but I’m sorry I had a brand new puppy I needed some thing so a little hard to return. They came in these big box is not easy to return such a huge thing and I had a cat litter box I couldn’t have her eating Pooh so I just propped one up against there and then have it held in with a pile of clothes that are in front of it! I have obviously since bought new ones but too late to return of course. i’m sorry I’m just so unhappy about these things because I’ve tried to prop them up I’ve tried to do many things, they just fall over and since the meadow come crashing to the ground and a loud noise. they suck!! And I see that some people got working ones but I don’t know I don’t know why mine or not. I did get them from Amazon warehouse they were described in perfect condition. I mean I don’t know maybe it’s not the sellers fault then. Maybe Amazon is just selling the defaults so shame on them… but with that given you’re still going to get a chance that you get one of these default ones because the company is still shipping out some of them. That might at least explain why some people get ones that seem to work?
