  • Powerful Bass Potential for the Right Setup
I recently installed the Skar Audio EVL-65 D2 6.5" 400 Watt subwoofer in my 2015 Lexus CT200h factory subwoofer box, and although I'm not experiencing its full potential, I can still appreciate its capabilities. Please note that my review is based on my specific setup limitations, but I believe this speaker has great potential when paired with the right amplifier. First and foremost, the installation process was a breeze. The speaker fit perfectly in my factory subwoofer box, making it a seamless upgrade. The build quality of the Skar Audio EVL-65 D2 is evident, with its sturdy construction and durable components. It is clear that this speaker is built to last. Now, onto the sound. Due to the limitations of my car's factory amplifier, I'm only able to hear a fraction of the bass that this speaker is capable of producing. However, I believe the issue lies with my car's power output rather than the speaker itself. Despite the limited bass response, I can still perceive the potential that lies within the Skar Audio EVL-65 D2. Considering the value for money, this speaker offers a solid investment. While I'm unable to fully exploit its capabilities, I recognize that it is designed for enthusiasts who are seeking powerful and deep bass. If you have a compatible amplifier that can provide the necessary power, I believe this speaker will truly shine and deliver an exceptional audio experience. In summary, the Skar Audio EVL-65 D2 is a well-built and impressive subwoofer, despite my current setup limitations. Its easy installation and durable construction make it a great choice for car audio enthusiasts. While I can't provide a comprehensive review of its sound quality, I am confident that with the appropriate amplifier, this speaker will deliver outstanding bass performance. I would definitely consider purchasing the Skar Audio EVL-65 D2 again, but next time, I will ensure that my audio system can fully unleash its potential. ... show more

  • Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 replacement
So after trying to replace the blown stock sub with a cheap alternative (pyle plg64) and having it go up in smoke in less than a week, I decided to find a beefier alternative. First impression is that this speaker appears to be built well. I thought the tiny amp in the ProMedia didnt have a chance to move this speaker. I tried wiring the 2ohm dvc in series and parallel. at 1ohm, it was super distorted but the klipsch amp had no problem powering the sub for the short time i tried it. It probably would fry the amp over time, but i was curious how it wouldve worked. It was basically a rattle machine all the way down to 1/4 turn on the bass knob At 4ohms, i felt it probably wasnt as loud as the factory sub, but it also doesnt sound like a loud fart rattle at max volume like the stock speaker did. It does seem to go lower though. But the real beauty is that at max volume, it doesnt seem to have any problem handling the power like the factory sub. Overall, i think it probably sounds a little smoother. I cant do a side by side comparison, but i really like this as an option for replacement. It murders the pyle plg64 which did get better after it broke in but never came close to sounding as good as the factory sub. The cabinet is probably on the small side for this sub, but it brings the system back to life, so thats all i could ask for. The sub barely fits once it's wired up, but it does fit. Obligatory mention of klipsch promedia sub replacement quirks: 1. The grill wont fit back on, but the speaker fits nicely and doesnt look bad without the grill. 2. The factory connector on the negative side will need to be snipped off and replaced with a standard size one, but youll be doing a similar job just to make the jumpers to wire the dvc properly anyway. 3. The factory sub was a 6 ohm speaker, i chose to get a 2 ohm dvc to wire it in series to 4ohms rather than get the 4ohm dvc and wire it to 8ohms. Im not sure what the longevity of the amp will be like, but i can imagine at 8ohms, it wouldnt be loud enough. I'd be curious if it would be passable at 2ohms if someone wants to give it a shot. If this sub improves after it breaks in like the pyle did, I'd say its a huge upgrade over stock. As for now, i'd say its probably a very tiny downgrade in outright loudness but a slight upgrade in the less distortion and lower frequency response department. Overall, i'd recommend this over a cheap replacement speaker all day. its a beast. ... show more

  • Communication and sellers quick response
The speakers were great just a little too large for the space in the car. We were able to return for a refund right away. The refund was made through Amazon gift card versus back to our cc. We were not aware it would not come back to the cc. Not a complaint just note that if you are expecting a refund make certain that it was not issues via Amazon GC. ... show more

  • Great value
I really don't have anything bad to say about . The build quality is very good given the price point, cast basket, very stout terminals, cone and suspension are very high quality. I built a small .28cf sealed enclosure and filled it with polyfill, dual 2 ohm coils wired in series and ran with 150 watts RMS off of a bridged channel of a Audiocontrol ACX300.4 marine amplifier. Bass output was surprisingly tight with good low end to around 45hz where it started to drop off, what I would expect for a 6.5" in a small sealed enclosure. If you have the room go with a .38 to .45cf ported enclosure, the efficiency would increase and you would get more output in the 45-50hz range. For the value, you can't ask for more. The only reason I gave it a three star ratting for SQ was comparing it to subs like the JL 6W3 and similar subs costing 5 times as much, value it gets five stars. ... show more

  • Couldn’t be happier
This subwoofer is perfect for my application and works great. I have a 2000-era Honda Civic sedan with decent trunk space; but barely enough space if you want to transport large payloads (two checked suitcases, for example). I built a custom enclosure for this subwoofer to minimize its footprint in my Civic’s trunk, and it fits great. With a similarly hard hitting subwoofer any bigger than this, I’d have to sacrifice too much space. This subwoofer sounds amazing. I have Fosgate Punch component speakers in the front, coaxials in the back, and this thing really complements the system. I couldn’t be happier! ... show more
