  • Awesome subwoofer!
First things first; The amp has a 40 amp fuse, so it matches up with the advertised numbers, and is capable of pushing over 400 watts rms. Whether or not it does, I don't know. The high level inputs are auto detecting, so if hooked up this method, you will not need a remote wire. The box has shades of blue in the carpet in direct light, can't be seen in the pictures, but I actually like it more than just black. Subwoofer seems very well constructed and is a beautiful looking sub. Now for the good stuff: For $109 this thing can't be beat! Ordered it on a whim, looking to add a little extra bass to my jeep commander with the Boston Acoustics system. It has a factory 7 channel amp in the rear with two low pass channels to the front bass drivers, so installing this subwoofer was a breeze. Just had to run some 10 Guage wire to the back from the battery under the trim and used some crimping wire tappers into the front bass driver outs from the amp into the included high level input on the amp. I didn't have to find a switching power source for the remote because the built in amp detects when there is power to the high level inputs and controls the amp power accordingly. After getting everything hooked up, I fired it up and started throwing a variety of different genres at this little sub, just to find its strong and weak points. Straight out of the box this sub sounded pretty decent, i have always been used to a 1200w rms labyrinth ported 12" DVC running at 1 ohm on 1000w rms class d monoblock, and I may have had my expectations set a little too high because of that, but for the size of the box and how much I paid, this little sub impressed me. It favors the mid and high frequency bass, and kind of drops out a bit in the lower frequencies, but that is to be expected out of such a small sealed box. So I let this little sub jam out for a few days, playing everything from hard rock, to country, to dubstep, to hip hop. All of which play nicely with this subwoofer, some more then others but all around good, I was pretty satisfied with the performance for the price I paid. It wasn't until after about 5 days of heavy playing that this subwoofer REALLY came alive and started to impress me. From the factory this sub is very very stiff, almost too stiff, barely moveable by pushing on it with a few fingers. But after 5 days of loud constant music, the spiders have loosened up alot. It feels like a broken in subwoofer now, and boy does it show in the sound. As its been breaking in and loosening up, this subwoofer has easily doubled in volume and output since the first day I installed it. By far the most dramatic improvement I've ever heard in a subwoofer from simply breaking in. I don't know if it is due to just the subwoofer getting looser or some inner workings of the amplifier that made such a huge difference, but whatever it is, it's great. This is easily the best $109 I've ever spent on any car audio related product, it truly sounds awesome for what you pay, in my eyes I don't think there is a better sub out there that is amplified and in a slim box. The only thing that is still up in the air is the life span of this sub, but I'm sure it will last a very long time. If you're on the fence about this subwoofer, don't be, pull the trigger on it, you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Packs a punch
I moved to a pickup truck and had an old rockford fosgate powered 12" I loved but it wouldn't fit under or behind the seats in my truck. I didn't want to spend a ton to just add the little bass I was looking for, but didn't want cheap and bad sounding either. After checking out reviews online for this I decided to give it a try. This thing sounds and performs way better than I expected it to. It's not as punchy on the kicks as the rockford was, but it handles way more frequencies which gives it a nice full sound. Definitely happy with it and hope it lasts for a long time. ... show more

  • Surprisingly bassy subwoofer for being compact
The media could not be loaded. I originally bought this speaker from Amazon as the seller for $20 cheaper since it was “refurbished”. Well that was a mistake. I already had bad vibes as the original box was all beat up and the speaker box itself was covered in dog hair. I plugged it in and quickly noticed that the speaker was blown. I checked and tripped checked my wiring and messed around with some of the amp settings and nothing helped as it was obviously blown. Returned it and took a chance on a new one and boy was I not disappointed. I highly recommend getting a wiring kit to make your life easier. Just search - BOSS Audio Systems KIT2 on Amazon. The kit comes with all the wires you need and the quality and gauge is suitable for this speaker. The speaker box is solid and the embroidered logo is a nice touch even though I’ll hardly see it under my back seat. I like that the grill gives enough room for the speaker to move while still allowing it to be protected while cramped under the back seat as you can see in my video. The controls on the amp give you volume gain and frequency response adjustment. My only complaint is that I wish the gain on the box got cancelled out if you plugged in the volume remote knob. You have to adjust the gain on the box properly so that your remote has enough gain that it won’t overload your speaker and possibly blow it. The bass produced won’t win any competitions or annoy the neighboring car at the light but it does produce enough to feel punchy in rock music and rich and deep for hip hop. It definitely fills my truck cabin with all the bass I need making my rides more enjoyable. Now, the question is going to be how long will it last? I’ll update my review if I have any issues. ... show more

  • Bang for your buck
The media could not be loaded. Easy hook up. My first time setting a subwoofer up. Rockvilles videos off the QR code are very simple to follow. I’m going with Rockville when I upgrade. Sound is awesome especially for the price. High level input to my factory radio was easier than expected. If you’re on a budget but want something more for your car this is it. • Selling used subwoofers marked as new
Very disappointed in the amount of resold returns. I ordered this subwoofer, got the box and it was all beat up. I opened it only to see an unwrapped sub box, wadded up sub level controller and the rma from the previous return! The listing is a lie by stating it’s a new product. Do better.

  • Sounds great, overheats constantly
This is the 2nd subwoofer I've received from Rockville. The first one I received had a faulty amp in which it would overheat. I contacted Rockville and filed a warranty claim, but i had to pay for the shipping for this sub that was defective which I didnt feel was fair. Im now on my 2nd replacement subwoofer, and it has the same issue, it overheats after 20 minutes of use at half volume. Im almost positive the amps in the subwoofers are not made that great. They shouldnt be overheating this quickly, especially at half the volume and half the hertz. ... show more

  • JUST BUY IT
For the price this is an unbeatable deal. Install, just 4 wires for the speakers. 2 for power. And 1 for the remote. The hardest part was getting to the wires i needed in my car. After a day or 2 of it breaking in now it sounds even better.
