I struggled for years with cheap trash cans in my kitchen. The last one was white plastic, so cheaply made that the popup mechanism on the lid broke so it opened when the front pedal was depressed but didn't close itself. Forget about being hands-free! After the cheapo can slid out from my foot and fell over, I had had enough. I jumped on Amazon to find the best trash can I possibly could, and I was successful. This trash can simply rocks. It is heavy enough to stay in place. The soft-close lid works like a charm. The pedal is heavy-duty and will last a very long time. The whole inner plastic can is easy to work with and makes removing and replacing trash bags easy. Finally, it looks amazing! I never thought that my kitchen decor would be improved by a trash can, but this one did it. It it perfect? Close. There are a couple of things that could be improved. The lid-locking sliding button on my unit cannot be put into place by opening the lid all the way with the pedal and then sliding it into the locking position. I found that I have to slightly push the lid backward for the sliding lock to go fully into place. Then when the pedal is released, the lid stays fully out of the way when trash bags are removed and replaced. I also found that traditional trash bags from the store cannot fit onto the inner trash can without seriously stretching them. It takes some muscle. It means that children and the elderly may not be able to change the trash bag if using typical tall kitchen trash bags. I took the easy way out of this situation by ordering trash bags specifically for the trash can from the manufacturer (simplehuman). Because there are quite a few of the sample bags sent with the trash can, it took me weeks to run out of them. I found them to be quite superior to everyday trash bags because they are folded and not rolled, very easy to open and use, and they appear to be more durable than conventional trash bags. I am very satisfied with the trash bags and especially the trash can. This product is clearly more expensive than other trash cans, but it is very worth the cost and quite stylish. It may be one of the only utilitarian items in your kitchen that you frequently get compliments on. ... show more

Lovely trash can, easy to set up. Smooth open/close, great brushed metal look. My floor is uneven so I had to prop one side up with cardboard (the wheels make it hard to level). 100% worth the money.

Nice can! Shiny and sleek looking. Fits a 30 gallon bag. There is not a lot of space for garbage crumbs to get stuck inside unlike the last one I owned. Easy close lid. You can hide the garbage bag inside. Yes, it’s pricey for a garbage can but it’s a luxury model.

I know what you are thinking. This trash can is nice, trash and recycle together, decent size, looks good....but that is a lot of money! I read another review that felt like I could have written it that discussed the same thing and I instantly purchased after reading. I thank your for your feedback. This is a lot of money for a trash can but it is so well made and good looking. It looks great, not very fingerprint-proof, but then again what can survive toddler hands? No big deal, it wipes clean with the dish cloth. The trash can is a great size and improvement over my grocery store bag sized can I had. The recycling bin is narrow for fitting a crushed gallon milk jug, but the convenience far outweighs anything I have to say about the size. It is deep enough to hold quite a bit overall. There is a nice latch to hold the door open when either filling or needing to pull items out. This looks great in the kitchen too. It is more decor than trash can. Not the only downfalls that took away one star. 1) the lid needs to be 1/2 shorter when open. A trash can with this much thought, but the overall height exceeds the standard height to the bottom of the counter. My next point addresses this, but when the pedal is pressed the lid would slam in the counter top. I had to modify it or back it off. To protect it, I decided a simple fix. 2) non-adjustable lid opening, at least that I can see. If I could adjust the lid not to open 90 deg (ultimately over that with the momentum it has while opening) it would not hit the counter. Foxing the height is best, but against a wall you could have a similar issue. I added some rubber bump stops under the pedal that fixed it, the problem is when you manually open the lid all the way it lifts the front off the ground. Overall I would definitely purchase again. Having a background in Test Engineering I like to see cycle counts to failure, it means a lot to me on what was put into this and they actually cycle tested the pedal actuator system. Another note, buy the bags in bulk from them directly. Good price and they fit perfect. Not use in spending the same or more for generic bags. ... show more

Hot off the delivery truck just now! Maybe this review is a bit premature, but I love this trash bin! It came in mint condition--not a dent, ding, or scratch! Extremely well packaged (pictures included). It came with SimpleHuman trash bags--package of 10 bags for each bin. I typically use 13 gallon Hefty brand kitchen bags and they fit fine. There are finger-sized holes in the back of each removable bin to tuck excess bag into, so you dont have to purchase the SimpleHuman bags if you dont want to. The easy close lid is nice and slow...its not going to slam down on fingers. It fits great in a small kitchen space. I did pick the bin up and place it in my kitchen from out of the box, and NO FINGERPRINTS were left behind! The trash bin has a silver-ion coating that resists fingerprints and germs per the easy-peel stick-on that was attached to the front of the bin. The recycling bin (left side) is larger (I bought it for this reason specifically), but you do you---if you produce more trash than recyclables, then make the larger bin for trash. I’m very happy with this waste basket for my kitchen. We don’t have to replace the larger bag very often because that side is for our recycling. We just empty it into our trash can outside and bring the plastic bag back in. The smaller side is for kitchen trash. Since we use Ridwell for our plastics, our kitchen trash has shrunk by two thirds. The lid and foot pedal work flawlessly. This is our second excellent SimpleHuman waste basket for indoors. What can someone say about a trashcan that will get people to buy it? Well, as the video shows - if it can get my teenager to throw things away, it’s worth it! 😂 Seriously, I bought the SimpleHuman trashcan because I was sick of buying subpar plastic cans that either were too small, or the lid would break after a few weeks, or it was easy for my dogs to get into. This can solved all three of those problems ✔️✔️✔️. To boot, you can pack a ton of trash in this thing. And for a family that hates taking out the trash that’s an extra added bonus! 🤘🏼We have had this trashcan for a few years now and have had zero issues. I would absolutely recommend. We are thinking about to get the composting attachment before the holidays 🍁🍁 Pros - 1. Slim design lets the can fit almost anywhere. 2. It’s not an eyesore, so you can have it anywhere. 3. Easy open engineering makes it the best companion for the always chopping chef. Cons - 1. Trash bags are expensive if you buy the brand bags.
