I bought this for an elderly couple that I live with. They were using old fashioned ice trays, and he was having trouble refilling and stacking them in the freezer. I had brought this to their attention some time ago, and they of course said, "nawww.. We don't neeed that!" Well? I got it for them anyway, and it is absolutely a blessing! 1. Shipment was very fast. 2. It was packed, and received well. 3. It took literally 3 minutes to set up. A few minutes after I added water to the tank, it began to do its thing. We all had fun watching in amazement how it would fill up the tray (2 sizes available) and dump them into its bin as if some robot was inside. The ice cubes are soft enough for her to sit and chew on them all day, as they don't get as cold as regular freezer cubes. It also has to do with the shape. They dissolve almost immediately in water or soda etc. but leave it nice and cold. It's good for about 3 to 4 people to get a fair amount of ice for their drink, and it instantly starts up the process of making more. It's very sparing on the water, so we have to maybe fill it once a day, but again.... It is used CONSTANTLY. It's quiet, it's easy for anyone to use, and it works fast. We have freed up a large amount of space in the freezer, and I don't have to worry about any of them falling on ice or water that spills on the floor. I would wholeheartedly recommend this for anyone's office, or home. You WILL find a need for it! It doesn't produce a huge amount, but it produces enough, and fast enough.

This product has saved me the annoyance of buying giant bags of ice and beating the bag every day to get ice from the freezer. I pour one water bottle of water directly in the basket (it pours right through the slots) and I get several batches of ice from that one bottle. I actually lost the instructions before getting a chance to read them and I was worried I wouldn't be able to figure out how to use it. One look at the machine and I realized how easy it was. Press the on button, hit select for ice cube size, and that's it! As long as the water is in it begins to make ice. I read a review where a person went on about the plastic taste and I have not experienced that at all. I use purified bottled water, so maybe it just depends on the type or brand of water you use. My ice just tastes like purified water. The one downside to this machine is that it's not a freezer...it doesn't keep the ice frozen after making it. It slowly begins to melt. You can either leave it and the ice will just melt and drip down into the water below to be used again, or you can scoop it out into a bag and leave it in your freezer. I've been scooping it into a bag and turning it off after I fill my tumbler for the day. So overall, great device; wish I could leave the ice in it for when I'm ready for more ice.

We have a Frigidaire ice maker that we like, but we wanted an additional one; my review will take a comparison approach. The quick take: Likes: Makes nice sized ice quickly The carry handle is handy and removable Large opening to access the ice It has a 'Self Cleaning' mode and easier to clean than the Frigidaire Quieter than the Frigidaire Dislikes: Took longer than i'd like for the plastic taste to go away Access door does not like to stay open Looks ok, not as nice as the Frigidaire I'll start with the likes. This makes bigger ice right off the bat over the Frigidaire. I keep a pitcher of water in the fridge to add to the ice maker, it helps make larger ice quicker. The Silonn does not really need the cold water "Boost" that the Frigidaire needs. This one has a carry handle, which is a really nice feature if you don't plan on leaving it on your counter all the time. These are a bit heavy so the handle is really a nice feature. The opening to get to the ice is noticeable larger than the Frigidaire, but it also does not stay open as well; the Frigidaire stays open much better. The self cleaning mode is user activated, it basically just rinses the system out for about 5 minutes; the Frigidaire does not do this. As for my dislikes, the plastic taste (which the Frigidaire had also) has taken longer to go away. I did wash and run the self clean mode multiple times with a vinegar/water solution (which helps with that plastic taste), but there was still a lingering plastic taste even after a week of regular use. I had to do the vinegar trick a second time, which seemed to finally do the trick. The second time I added one cup of vinegar and filled the rest with hot water then did the self clean several times.I left the vinegar and hot water in the machine for about an hour while intermittently running the self clean. After this, make sure you rinse it several times with clean water. The Frigidaire took about a week or so for it to go away and took only one vinegar treatment. The Frigidaire does seem to have higher quality materials. This ice maker looks ok, but it is just black plastic. Our Frigidaire is stainless steel and looks much nicer on the counter. They are about the size of a bread maker and look very similar. The insulation on the Silonn is not as good as the Frigidaire. In all fairness, neither on keeps ice very long, and they really are not designed to either. If you need to keep ice longer, after about take that ice out and put it in a gallon bag. After it fully freezes, you'll want to drop it on the counter a couple of times to break up the ice before adding more to it. You can make about a pound of ice (close to a one gallon freezer bag) per hour. I'll make several pounds of ice before a camping trip and 5-6 gallon bags will give me a nice amount of ice for my coolers. These are also nice to make extra ice for when you have company or for a wet bar. I am pleased with the ice maker, after a couple of weeks of daily use it has proven to be very capable. Aside from the plastic taste issue, I’ve been pleased with it. The Silonn is a bit smaller in size, but also has a smaller capacity (1.5 vs 2 liter) compared to our other one; this may be preferred by some people.
